To think 21 degrees is shorts and t-shirts weather

I have just checked the weather for Tenerife for the next few days and it ranges between 20 and 21 degrees, I am in a dilemma as to what sort of clothes to pack as I have my heating at home set to 23 so wondering if I will be cold in just a summer dress or shorts and t-shirt. This past week I noted it was 10 degrees out there with rain and wind so I will bring a warm set of clothes but I am wondering what the ratio of summer to winter clothes I should pack (want to travel light if possible, so leaving snow clothes at home!)

That's the highs though, right? It might get quite brisk at night and in the mornings. I'm in Spain and it's getting to 18/19 degrees during the day but in the mornings I'm in jeans, jumper, coat and scarf!

The temps are apparently taken in the shade so could be a few degrees higher. We go to the canaries this time every year and we've never needed jumpers or coats, even at night. We're going to Lanzarote next week, my friend is there at the moment and said it was 26/27 most days

I'm not even wearing a scarf in North East Scotland "feels like 3 degrees" weather today Shock

Why do you think it's only Christmas in cold climates?
My childhood Christmases were spent in the blazing summer sun and were still very Chistmassy! Lots of bbqs and pool parties.

I would wear a sun dress but bring a cardigan with you in case you get chilly.

Prepare for colder evenings

Back in my youth, I got caught out with t-shirts and shorts in a Mediterranean storm in mid-summer so always have something warm and waterproof to layer on.

There can be storms out there and there is potential to be cooler at night and if its cloudy, so cardigans/ jackets/ trousers will be useful too.

I went to Tennerife in December years ago and found it odd seeing Christmas decorations going up while my brain was duped into summer mode.

Hi OP, I have just come back from Gran Canaria, forecast was c21 each day but it ended up at 23, i spent all week in shorts and vest, as did toddler.
Didn't even need a cardigan in the evening

Why would you think a predominantly catholic, European location wouldn't do Christmas?

I have friends & family who have properties there not jealous oh no and they often go out for Christmas there.

It does get quite breezy especially this time of year so even though the temp is stated as 21* it can feel much cooler. A couple of my people out there now and pics on Facebook they're in jeans and t-shirts with cardis or wraps on or close by if that helps? Oh and my people are all scots too.

Mixed responses suggest to me you should take mixed luggage - things easily layered up maybe?

I'd wear long pants, not shorts

Amylifehelp · 03/08/2023 13:24

Really? Just wear what you'd usually wear at 19-21 degree heat at home

If it is clear skies and sunny 20/21 feels quite warm so dresses and shorts would be fine. If it was overcast I’d go leggings and a t shirt or jeans and a t shirt.
