AIBU to conclude that Alan Sugar cannot deal with "Strong women"?

Jasmine booted out of "The Apprentice" last week and Jackie this week. Both competent and able women. Jackie was booted out for being too good, in the sense that she had already run a successful business and didn't "Need" him.

I think that Alan Sugar likes to feel superior and feels threatened by alpha females.

Jasmine was awful and excluded the two that had dealt with the corporate client on purpose!

Zintox · 29/11/2018 10:03

Yabu. Jackie went because she had made millions from selling a business and therefore didn't need his investment. He was clear that he wants to work with small businesses.

Buster72 · 29/11/2018 10:04

If she already had a business why did she need to go on this self aggrandizing shower....
Maybe she was not that good.
I will admit that I never watch this rubbish.

Bluntness100 · 29/11/2018 10:06

Well that's a bit bitchy towards the previous female winners, some of which were very strong women.

MrsPinkCock · 29/11/2018 10:07

Disagree completely. Jasmine seemed good but Jackie is a two faced manipulative pain in the arse, no way could I work with her.

MoistCantaloupe · 29/11/2018 10:07

YABU, she didn't need the investment. She also had questionable personality traits.

There have been lots of female winners of The Apprentice.

PayandPark · 29/11/2018 10:09

Presumably they knew Jackie had already started a successful business when they accepted her application to be on "The Apprentice". If this was a major problem, they shouldn't have allowed her to be one of the candidates. I think that Alan Sugar just decided she was too intimidating for him.

I think you're projecting a bit. Jackie came across to me as someone who would wish to do it her way. She's clearly very successful if uou look at her bio, she literally did sell her company for millions, and she's written a book, I really doubt Alan sugar was intimidated by her, the man is also self made and from what I understands employs many strong women.

longwayoff · 29/11/2018 10:14

Jackie was streets ahead of the others but extremely duplicitous. I understand why he fired her, I wouldnt find her trustworthy.

BertramKibbler · 29/11/2018 10:15

Lordy, no one on that show is a strong business person.

He seems to cope ok with Karen.

AdamNichol · 29/11/2018 10:17

I think Alan Sugar - with the help of Claude and Karen (r is she not a strong woman?) - saw thru Jackie as a scheming narcissist who was mostly there to demonstrate her tactical abilities. Those are not traits of a strong woman, and they certainly aren't traits that would make for a good business partnership. These latter series of apprentice are quite clear that its about silent partnering, not mentoring anymore; and he probably felt he'd have to watch his back a little too much with Jackie.

As for Jasmine, on the surface she looked to be a strong woman, but that only held when it went right. When it went wrong, a lot of it was her deciding that everyone else was doing everything wrong and she had to wade in and take over. Fine, if it works, but she spent more time actively worsening situations - but her self-righteousness wouldn't let her see that.

Nothisispatrick · 29/11/2018 10:18

I would disagree that being loud and aggressive = strong. Jackie has come across horribly and incredibly stupid if the gardening and airline tasks are anything to go by.

Jasmine had a little more class than that but didn’t always make the best decisions.

Alfie190 · 29/11/2018 10:19

I was puzzled when Jasmine was fired. But Jackie was awful, no integrity in my opinion.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 29/11/2018 10:21

Jasmine was too corporate for LS. Jackie- manipulative, awful, awful woman.

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 29/11/2018 10:30

I don't think it's strong women.

Margaret Mountford worked with him in real life for a long time and she's nobody's push over!

I think it's more he has a definite prejudice against certain "types" of people generally.

He doesn't like what he describes as Corporate (I'm not entirely sure what that means other than looks smart, probably wears a suit and acts like professional). He definitely doesn't like lawyers - he says as much and all the lawyers get fired early. He doesn't like people who make him feel lesser - which tends to be people who are posh (from upper class backgrounds) and highly educated (lawyers again but anyone with a stack of degrees).

I think to categorise it as a strong woman prejudice is unfair to him actually.

Emma765 · 29/11/2018 10:33

Given there's only one man left in the process I'd say YABU.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/11/2018 11:16

I do find it intensely irritating the way he always refers to himself as 'Lord Sugar', though. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems very arrogant to me.

Having said that, I don't know if it's true, but I did hear a report that he sent his wife a Christmas card one year 'from Alan Sugar'. If true, I'm guessing that it was a secretary writing them for him, which is not unreasonable, but you would think that he might have done those for close family himself.

I'm guessing that Dave Gorman doesn't feature very high on his Christmas card list, though....

BertramKibbler · 29/11/2018 11:19

Particularly given he doesn’t call Karen Baroness Brady...

Cutesbabasmummy · 29/11/2018 11:20

This it it 100%.

Poloshot · 29/11/2018 11:20

I think Jackie was booted out as she came across as a tool

CluedoAddict · 29/11/2018 11:23

They were both awful candidates.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 29/11/2018 11:23

One man and five women are left going forward. Hardly the moniker of someone who doesn't like (strong) women. He doesn't tolerate fools of either gender.

happypoobum · 29/11/2018 11:25

YABU

Both Jasmine and Jackie deserved to go. How many men are left in the process and how many women? Oh yeah, that's right!

bringbackfonzi · 29/11/2018 11:32

Really surprised anyone thinks Jasmine was an 'awful candidate'. I thought she would win.
Like pp I also don't really understand what 'corporate' means. Could anyone explain?

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 29/11/2018 11:39

Like I woz sayin' to Karen, I ain't in the market for them whats like a bit corporate. Speaks proper. Dresses proper. Bit too serious. Looks proper washed and brushed up clean.

What's wrong with a bit of daaahn the dogs, apples and pears, wheeler-dealer honest to goodness sellin' off the back of a lorry - you knaah what I mean mate?
