What is the best cake or dessert you have ever had?

I was recalling eating at Caffe Concerto over New Street station in Brum and their chocolate gateau slice was creamy loveliness.

Also can you send me a slice?

The Apple Cake at the cafe at Pergamon Museum in Berlin.

Perfection.

Picknickers · 28/11/2018 23:09

Black forest gateau in the Black Forest! 2 slices and I was sloshed 😂

The food hall under The Plaza Hotel in New York - a stand selling crepe cakes, absolutely lovely and a fantastic texture. Can't remember all the flavours I tried.
I also like Gail's lemon drizzle and M&S fresh cream Victoria sponge

Russian honey cake made by me. The variation of one that Numerodos has mentioned. It is quite complicated, but the result is gorgeous. I put soured cream in between the layers, so it’s not too sweet and is moist and soft.
And everyone who had tried it agree that it’s the best they’ve ever tried.

Call me common but I'm partial to Gregg's raspberry ripple cupcakes Grin

Manchester tart, from a little bakery near my parents house.

I am going to check some of these places out (ones in the UK mind!). Am drawing up a list..

My own Devils Food cake. It is constantly in demand. I was diagnosed with coeliac disease two years ago, so I am stuck with making it for others and never eating it myself. My actual bastard Life!

ZeldaSpellman · 29/11/2018 02:27

Toffee apple cheesecake cake from Dreamworld Cakes in Newcastle.

Also the vegan Biscoff cake from Green Guerilla Deli in Durham. Their stall is literally the only reason I go to my local farmer's markets...

Anthony Worrall-Thompson used to have a deli in Windsor that did incredible chocolate brownies - just amazing!

HappyEverIftar · 29/11/2018 06:05

My gran's chocolate cake with chocolate icing. I loved it. When she died nobody knew the recipe, until my DSIL cooked a cake so similar, I have no shame asking her to make me one so I can eat it all up myself, every once in a while! I have asked for the recipe but she says she doesn't really know and just throws it all together Envy.

That and a mincemeat slice my gran also made, sadly not replicated anywhere else or can I find a recipe for it. Sad

Depending on time of year/ food mood I'm in:

Key lime pie

Sticky toffee pudding

Millionaire Shortbread

Nom!

TchoupiEtDoudou · 29/11/2018 06:11

My mum's chocolate cake. Will quite literally be eaten within an hour of it being out the oven. My DSes discovered it for the first time recently and my god did they eat it quickly!

HappyPunky · 29/11/2018 06:26

I had a sales job years ago and at team meetings the Yorkshire rep used to bring in millionaires shortbread from a Baker local to her.
The Baker was married but if he had been single I would have gone in there and proposed.

Indie139 · 29/11/2018 08:40

Apple crumble
Chocolate cake
Rum cake
Bailey's muffins
Carrot cake

Davros · 29/11/2018 09:45

Just remembered, Maids of Honour from ....... Maids of Honour in Kew.
I do love an M&S egg custard tart too

Crappygilmore · 30/11/2018 14:33

Warrens bakery uses to do a delicious pineapple cake with cream inside. They 've stopped making them now. I'd kill for one again.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 30/11/2018 14:48

My mum's lemon drizzle cake :)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/11/2018 14:59

Many years ago an Italian resturant in Edinburgh (I think "Cavios)

Their Black Forest Gateaux was delish.

And Butlins (surprisingly) in the Yaught Club, had a pastry base ,apple middle and crumble on top.

PollyMycroft · 30/11/2018 17:50

Tiramisu made by a friend many years ago. So boozy we were tipsy after it.

merrymouse · 30/11/2018 17:53

When Starbucks first came to the UK they took over a chain called the Seattle Coffee Company which did a really delicious coffee layer cake. I think it had flecks of coffee in the icing.

MatildaTheCat · 30/11/2018 18:03

Nigella’s pear, pistachio and rose water cake with rose petals on top (edible). Looks and tastes fabulous and takes quite literally 5 minutes to wizz together in the food processor. Also wheat and gluten free.

Winner.

@Numerodos I wonder if its this cake rustykalnakuchnia.blogspot.com/2012/12/miodowy-tort-z-orzechami.html

Not had it myself, but I love Polish poppyseed cake.

My ultimate cake would be black forest. I'm going to see if I can get a slice for my birthday next week. I would make one but the kid at home can't eat choclate and the kid at uni can't eat cream and the dh doesn't eat cakes Confused

Or a pear frangipane tart.

Fridaydreamer · 30/11/2018 18:32

My homemade lemon cheesecake. People beg me to make it for them.

Aside from that a chocolate layered cake in a little B&B in Crete about 30 years ago. Had it every night of our stay and still miss it.

Oswin · 30/11/2018 18:40

Pineapple tart, with cream inside and topped with green icing.
