My DH and I ordered a takeaway for delivery Saturday night via JustEat.

We ordered at 7:30pm, the app said restaurant had accepted order and food would be there by 8:20pm.

We use this restaurant a lot when we want convenience. The food is okay, good value, and we occasionally eat in there as my parents love it.

My DH has never rated the place but uses it because it is convenient. Anyway, when the food wasn't with us by 9pm, he checked the app, and it stated it was delivered. He called the restaurant who said it would be leaving in a minute, but no apology or explanation. The restaurant is a 5 minute walk from our house. The food turned up 30 minutes later, and was cold. My DH left a 1.5 star review on JustEat saying he had had a longer than expected wait and it was cold.

Anyway, the next day, I was in hospital having emergency surgery (nothing terrible but very necessary - another thread) and my DH went to get a coffee whilst I was in theatre. The restaurant owner was in the area where you get coffee and things, and walked over to my husband and said: "You left a bad review!" My DH replies to say this was not the time or the place. The restaurant owner raised his voice and said again "You left a bad review and that wasn't fair!" My DH raised his voice back and said again it wasn't the time or the place and walked away.

I felt the review was a bit tough as they know us and because of my parents we are likely to have to go back there, in the near future. But I am surprised the the owner would confront DH this way, in a hospital to boot.

So WIBU?

Perfectly reasonable to leave a bad review.

Also perfectly reasonable for, owner to mention it next time you were in.

To be honest, anywhere I left that low a review for, I wouldn’t go back in? Not quickly anyway. Because the kind of experience I’d had would put me off.

PinkHeart5914 · 27/11/2018 12:25

As long as the review you leave is factual then it’s absolutely fine to leave a bad review.

rumidumi · 27/11/2018 12:26

I don't think we need to argue with whether or not he should have given a low review. The fact of the matter is, they shouldn't have brought it up there, no!

Merryoldgoat · 27/11/2018 12:28

@Mrswhiskersen

The owner approached OP’s DH when he was buying coffee - not because he went into the restaurant.

OP - YANBU and I’d find a new take away.

CantsitWontsit · 27/11/2018 12:30

I looked through his other reviews and they are either good, or complaints about similar issues than ours. So one end of the spectrum to another.

We can't go back can we? Blimey, what a palaver.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/11/2018 12:30

I'd leave another review that they think it appropriate to confront customers who are not happy with their service. If someone approached me in that manner I'd be calling it nothing short of threatening behavior.
Oh and I wouldn't go there again not just as a matter of principle but we a know what can happen if you complain about food places. I won't type it in case people are eating but sure you get my meaning. Envy(deffo not envy)

Cheby · 27/11/2018 12:30

YANBU. Can your DH edit the review to include the owner’s conduct in the hospital? Because I absolutely would do that.

Chocolala · 27/11/2018 12:31

I wouldn’t go back, especially if his attitude is to whinge about fairness when what he should have done was apologise profusely and ask for another chance to get it right.

fuzzywuzzy · 27/11/2018 12:32

@MrsWhiskersen the OP’s dh was getting a coffee from the hopsital cafeteria (that’s how I read it), not the take away from the night before.

CantsitWontsit · 27/11/2018 12:33

I won't miss it if we don't go back. We aren't short on places to eat. Not looking forward to telling my parents, they think it is the best place ever Confused

lilyheather1 · 27/11/2018 12:33

If its only 5 mins away I think I'd have walked and picked it up Confused either way, it's not on for the owner to have shouted at your DP.

CantsitWontsit · 27/11/2018 12:34

Yes, DH was getting a coffee in the hospital, not in the restaurant. He was also panicking (awww) about me.

OP posts:
Clutterbugsmum · 27/11/2018 12:36

First of all your husband didn’t leave a bad review he left an honest review. Your food was very late and cold.

The owner was in the wrong for confronting your husband in hospital canteen but I would give him some leeway as you don’t know why he was there.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/11/2018 12:38

I would give him some leeway as you don’t know why he was there. Just as he had no idea why OPs DH was there!

Mookatron · 27/11/2018 12:44

I'd actually be contacting the restaurant to let them know that behaviour is well out of order. Honestly if I saw a friend in a hospital canteen I'd be careful whether I spoke to them and what about - never mind a customer Shock. Completely inappropriate.

BirthdayCakes · 27/11/2018 12:44

Why didn't your DH just explain why he left the review?

CantsitWontsit · 27/11/2018 12:44

Lily I wasn't well, DH was looking after me, thus why we ordered (and paid) for delivery.

OP posts:
wafflyversatile · 27/11/2018 12:45

Does he leave a review the other times you order from them?

Either way hospital is not the place.

CantsitWontsit · 27/11/2018 12:46

Birthday DH was stressing about me, and surprised at the restaurant owner being there and confronting him, he didn't want the discussion. Not then at that moment.

OP posts:
CantsitWontsit · 27/11/2018 12:47

Waffly I don't know to be honest, I will ask.

OP posts:
wafflyversatile · 27/11/2018 12:47

Actually that's a good point. Maybe he was worried too and this was a distraction from worrying.

TisTheSeasonToBeAWally · 27/11/2018 12:50

Is the restaurant in the hospital? Confused

Not that that would make it ok, but I’m confused.

CantsitWontsit · 27/11/2018 12:55

Sorry for not being clear. The coffee area in the part of the hospital my DH was in is made up of several vending machines, and table/chairs so wasn't sure what to call it.

The restaurant owner was in the hospital, away from his restaurant.

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 27/11/2018 12:55

I would be finding a new restaurant if I were you.

Miscible · 27/11/2018 12:56

Why on earth would you think the restaurant was in the hospital? There's nothing suggesting that.
