About seeing ; instead of ' in words like don't and can't. Seems to be only on mumsnet, or is it something I don't know about

Well?

It is fast typing and missing the ' with your little finger and hitting the ; instead, which is right next door to it!

I do it a lot!

moo · 21/06/2007 20:16

You mean like can;t? I haven't seen that anywhere...perhaps I am not frequenting the right threads.

unknownrebelbang · 21/06/2007 20:17

I do it often too.

Hulababy · 21/06/2007 20:17

Typos I suspect. Two keys next to each other, and everyone types so fast on here and don't check their messages before hitting Post. I knpow I have been guilty of it.

fizzbuzz · 21/06/2007 20:40

Not sure it is just fast typing. They appear over and over again in same message which is often quite lengthy.

One or two could be mistakes....not sure 15 and 16 are.

I thought it was possible that they could be misatkes for quite a long time, but after studying threads closely (how sad is that?)I don't think they are

OP posts:
Hulababy · 21/06/2007 20:44

Not noticed it as being particularly prolific. Any particular threads?

WigWamBam · 21/06/2007 20:46

Is it just today?

Tech had a bit of a senior moment earlier, and there were all kinds of weird and wonderful things appearing where the apostophes ought to be ...

Curmudgeonlett · 21/06/2007 20:48

I don't understand the question

argghhhhhhhh

Curmudgeonlett · 21/06/2007 20:48

what are you all answering?

gess · 21/06/2007 20:49

I do it all the time. It's from typing too fast.

gess · 21/06/2007 20:49

twiglett;s rather than twiglett's

Curmudgeonlett · 21/06/2007 20:50

doh!

thanks jj

fizzbuzz · 21/06/2007 21:00

Can't name any threads or messages in particular, but it occurs very often.

Just wondered if it was some new sort of punctuation that I had missed (or never understood in the first place!)

Not sure there could be 10 or so identical typos in one thread. Or could there? Am willing to belive it as I am a graduate of pathetic one finger typing school

OP posts:
lulumama · 21/06/2007 21:01

well, i know i do it as i type fast and don;t preview!

unknownrebelbang · 21/06/2007 21:03

I type quite fast, and it's something I do quite often.

It's quite feasible that I could do it often in one thread.

You will note that I haven't done it in this one, lol.

anniebear · 21/06/2007 21:14

never noticed it !

colditz · 21/06/2007 21:14

typo

Nightynight · 21/06/2007 21:15

do as I do and leave the apostrophes out altogether. much quicker and doesnt affect the readability

Hulababy · 21/06/2007 21:15

I still think tpyo. I know mine are typos.

Hulababy · 21/06/2007 21:15

LOL - can't believe I mistyped typo!

EffiePerine · 21/06/2007 21:17

I do it a LOT. Typos not style statement

Katy44 · 21/06/2007 21:24

I do it all the time, my finger naturally gets it wrong. If it's right it's because I've been back and corrected it.
OK, I got those 2 right first time, just to prove myself wrong!

agnesnitt · 21/06/2007 21:27

That is the most oft made typo in the land of Agnes. I'm a bugger for it.

Sorry!

Agnes

Eddas · 22/06/2007 07:57

I do it all the time, and don't preview messages (unless i do a link) so it may well look deliberate. Just type too fast without being a touch typist

Oblomov · 22/06/2007 08:13

I Type really slowly and still do it.
