I'm currently feeding ds2 and getting him off to bed. I can hear something thumping around loudly in the washing machine downstairs. I put nappies in to wash before coming up, nappies don't normally thump....so I'm left wondering what my darling children had shoved in there that I didn't notice in my haste earlier...any suggestions gratefully recieved? And also AIBU to wonder what exciting treasure(!) other MNers have discovered at the bottom of a clean load?

We had an engineer out to our machine this week as it stopped draining. Aside from the sausage of fat, there was a pile of sewing needles, a metal collar stiffener, a stud earring, a plastic bracelet charm from a Christmas cracker and small Lego pieces.

Fitbit, greatly improved my steps that day 😁

littlewoollypervert · 24/11/2018 19:37

€20. Was very pleased to discover it, no damage just nice and clean!

VictoriaBun · 24/11/2018 19:39

A live chicken not in a washing machine😀

BadHairDyeDay · 24/11/2018 19:40

Not all at the same time but when DS was about 2 or 3 I found a saucepan, a mobile phone and an overripe pear all sloshing around in the wash 😒

Gumbo · 24/11/2018 19:43

DH's phone on 2 separate occasions. I wasn't popular....

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 24/11/2018 19:43

NappyEnvy
Money around £120
I'm always washing babywipes
Kirby grips. Broke my parents' as a teenager doing this and then done it to my own a few years later Blush

CloserIAm2Fine · 24/11/2018 19:46

A mug, it sadly did not survive the washing machine but thankfully the machine did survive

LlamaShark · 24/11/2018 19:46

The worst was a used tea bag, it ruined everything. 2nd place goes to a (unused) dog poo bag, it got caught somewhere and we had to get the repair man out.

Frequently finding baby wipes, hair clips, shopkins etc

Sycamore leaves/seeds. They fly much better after a quick wash at 30°C and an hour in the tumble dryer in a coat pocket.

CleverWittyUsername · 24/11/2018 19:51

Seashells courtesy of DS pockets
My own phone :(
Several lottery tickets courtesy of DH pockets, hopefully none of them were winners!

SherlockHolmes · 24/11/2018 19:51

I washed my handbag and its entire contents once. My purse, phone, DS's DS ....

Won't go into why, but it wasn't on purpose.

wallyfeatures · 24/11/2018 19:57

Off the top of my head and just in the last week

3 spent bullet cartridges
1 ballpoint pen
acorns
stones

In the past year
bike lights
coins
batteries
lego
travel size bottle of antibac handwash

I do go through pockets but miss a lot of stuff obviously!

wallyfeatures · 24/11/2018 19:59

Main culprits are DH and DD2

HettyB · 24/11/2018 20:00

I always check the washing machine thoroughly before putting on a wash - my two like to deposit all sorts in there. Sadly DS has now moved on to posting things into the bin instead - cue a whole house search for DH’a keys the other day...

Katedotness1963 · 24/11/2018 20:00

A cat. I don’t recommend it, I still bear the scars 40 odd years later.

By hand obviously!

Yura · 24/11/2018 20:04

Stones, conkers, leafes, housepoints (coloured plastic coin like things), Lego and duplo, tissues, coins

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/11/2018 20:10

Ooh a what is in my washing machine thread! A shoe?
I haven't washed anything strange before!
My mum did wash my phone once. It still worked after though!

schooltripwoes · 24/11/2018 20:10

A mushroom. Concluded it had likely passed through DS undigested (washable nappies) Grin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/11/2018 20:11

my sons wallet, tissues Angry my make up brushes (deliberately) plenty of small toys, stones, shells and snails when my boys were younger, cigarette lighters. nothing too major but my brother nearly dishwashered the cat!

Shereallydidsaythat · 24/11/2018 20:12

Once it was 850 in cash. Dh had sold something and left it in his pockets and I didn't think to check them. I then had to dry each note on the radiator! All in tact. It was a funny sight when dh came home and radiators were covered In money!

Ynci · 24/11/2018 20:12

A dead mouse! I must have just bundled the washing into the machine (tend to fling it all down by the machine and work my way through the different washes) without noticing the present one of the cats had left.
It was still very intact and very clean!

Flooffloof · 24/11/2018 20:13

Several mobile phones, a twenty pound note, packet of cigs, tissues Hmm a lot of tissues, a unused dog poo bag that ruined a brand new jacket with tiny particles of bag stuck to it for life, coins, a favourite was a slug and a billion pebbles from sons trouser pocket. Almost threw up.
A toy Tonka digger, Lego, knex, a photo, once emptied the filter thing to find a 4 inch long piece of metal that I never recognised, chocolate. This will age me but meh, video tape, tennis ball, frisbee, dog chew.
That's recent stuff.

CantWaitToRetire · 24/11/2018 20:14

My car keys Sad. I’ve got keyless entry system on my car so it cost an absolute fortune to buy a new key and have it programmed. I’m always very careful about checking pockets now tho.

noeyedeer · 24/11/2018 20:16

A small, travel sized tub of Sudocream. Absolute nightmare. 2 full cleans of the washing machine later and the laundry going through another three times, I think I mostly salvaged it.
