What unusual items have you washed?

I'm currently feeding ds2 and getting him off to bed. I can hear something thumping around loudly in the washing machine downstairs. I put nappies in to wash before coming up, nappies don't normally thump....so I'm left wondering what my darling children had shoved in there that I didn't notice in my haste earlier...any suggestions gratefully recieved? And also AIBU to wonder what exciting treasure(!) other MNers have discovered at the bottom of a clean load?

Remote control. I spent a while looking for it then went to get the washing out and there is was, change the battery and it was fine!

Athrawes · 24/11/2018 20:26

My Omega watch. I’ve done it three times and it still works! But I panic each time.

RangerMummy1 · 24/11/2018 20:27

Oh some of these have me in stiches, not great when trying to get small people to sleep! I once washed my OH's wallet & entire contents. The contents - money, cards, old receipts, etc. - all came out fine but the wallet shrunk!

Pasta, yesterday’s roast carrot, an entire raw onion, etc, etc. (Our washing machine is in the kitchen and I have a very helpful toddler)

Loyaultemelie · 24/11/2018 20:38

Several fivers, nails screws and loose change. Bailer twine. Oh and the dvd remote

totallyliterally · 24/11/2018 20:41

The contents of my hoover. When I was cleaning I would empty it into a carrier bag at end of each job. It got put in with my dirty cloths bag and then shoved into machine with it. Everything after the wash was hideous gritty.

Justanothernamechange2 · 24/11/2018 20:50

A bar of soap... took me agesss to work out why everything came out still suddy until i found the dove packet in a coat pocket..

Oldraver · 24/11/2018 20:52

I had to call out an engineer as a very new washing machine was making a noise, sounded like the things you used to put in bike spokes. He found an ear bud trapped in the pump impellar. My DB had form for leaving them in his pockets. Luckily it didn't do any damage.

The same couldn't be said when he left a rivet in his pocket...it shattered the pump

EerieSilence · 24/11/2018 20:57

I tried washing my cat. I had enough sense to stop at the paws because I was afraid of my life. I paid a groomer to do the rest. She obviously knew what she was doing, unlike me.

Busybusybust · 24/11/2018 21:00

Humpy bunny. My dog’s favourite toy. Compared with doggy, humpy is huge. When I hang him on the line, little dog sit and barks at him!

Novasglow · 24/11/2018 21:01

Exp's passport. He sorted out a new one. A few weeks later it happened again. He was not best pleased. In my defence, I'd told him a million times to empty his pockets before putting clothes in the wash basket Grin

Poshjock · 24/11/2018 21:03

Accidentally - lighters, pens, keys, coins, tissues (are the worst!), unused poo bags (because they are in every pocket I have! and the brand I use survive the washings brilliantly). I have washed trainers and inner tents.

I had (lost 1 a year ago) 2 Labradors and regularly sit for DSS Labradoodle. All 3 are teddy daft - they don't destroy them, they suck them! So I have a teddy wash on pretty much weekly because I hate slobbery teddies!

My daughter's umbilical cord...still attached to the plastic clip Envy

Hoopla5005 · 24/11/2018 21:05

My daughters tablet that my husband had bought her. I was mortified, it had got thrown on the bed and I gathered up all the sheets to wash not checking what was in there. Lesson learned...

whiteroseredrose · 24/11/2018 21:09

A Pringle cashmere and cotton mix jumper (1980s). I used to be able to machine wash it and tumble it dry and it stayed great.

Moths got it in the end ☹️

QueenCity · 24/11/2018 21:09

Two fitbits
Several conkers (they left stains on most of the washing)

booellesmum · 24/11/2018 21:14

Strawberry lip balm. In the white wash with my work uniforms, the kids cream school shirts and all the white underwear. It all came out covered in pink splodges. Nothing could be saved. :(

RangerMummy1 · 24/11/2018 21:32

It was a car! Not a real one obviously. It's come out lovely and clean. If only it were that easy to wash the actual car...

Amazon fire tablet.
It came out shaped like a turnip. Only on a 60 wash.

DerfelCadarn · 24/11/2018 21:43

The blade cover from my bikini line strimmer. I think I must have picked it up when I bundled the bathroom towels into the wash

seven201 · 24/11/2018 22:22

I've washed my i phone. Didn't survive
I've washed my week old kindle. Didn't survive.
Tissues! Stick to everything forever in a million tiny pieces.
Aghhhhhhhhhh

Didiplanthis · 24/11/2018 22:30

My kindle didn't do well in the washing machine either ! Clearly a design fault...

3in4years · 24/11/2018 22:32

My baby's umbilical cord Blush

MissClareRemembers · 24/11/2018 22:40

My purse and half a slice of pizza.

Not at the same time though! DS keeps shoving the remains of his school lunch in his trouser . 😡
