He's blocked a the bill to prevent FGM this time. Last time it was the upskirting bill. He's probably loving all the attention he's now getting but I am so angry about this and wonder if he really is the worst MP at this time.

I'd love to know if anyone's voted for him? And if so, why?

Christopher Chope is said to object to private members bills. Another with the same objection is Philip Davies. He is concerned about men's rights, and is a member of the parliamentary Women and Equalities Committee

YANBU. Its terrifying that it takes one plummed gobbed tosser to block laws that are there to protect women.
He's obviously another mysogenistic
beast. I mean WTF is he going to object to next. As a mother of a daughter. I have grave concerns that people like this are in power
He has 2 children of his own.
I couldn't find out if they were boys or girls. I hope HD doesn't have girls.
If he does surely he would not accept some dirty predator up skirting one of his daughters.

ElainaElephant · 24/11/2018 10:53

Gah, just started a thread having looked for one and boys found one! Bumping yours instead.

Yanbu in the slightest.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/11/2018 10:53

He needs sacking straight away.
He's a dangerous threat to the safe guarding of women. Angry doesn't even begin to cover how I'm feeling

NoLeslie · 24/11/2018 10:54

YANBU. I am so angry.

Pimpernell · 24/11/2018 10:58

He makes my skin crawl. And he made me rage with all his whining after his last stunt. 'Waaaah, why is everyone being mean to me?'

Because you're a scummy weeping sore of a human.

PostNotInHaste · 24/11/2018 10:58

I know people who have voted for him, I don’t think they’re very aware of his voting record.

Pimpernell · 24/11/2018 10:59

I'd forgotten about his brother in creepy arms Philip Davies.

Didiusfalco · 24/11/2018 11:00

Where is he the MP for? He sounds like an absolute tosser.

Ofthread · 24/11/2018 11:03

OMG he's a sir, I fucking hate this country sometimes.

Ofthread · 24/11/2018 11:03

Putney

Cottonflowers · 24/11/2018 11:10

I know he objects to private members bills on principle BUT - this was a bill to PREVENT FGM. How could anyone object to this, why would he not make an exception?
Also I don't think he blocks all private members bills, just ones from other parties. He must really hate women and girls.

Didiusfalco · 24/11/2018 11:12

I thought Justine Greening was the MP for Putney?

PostNotInHaste · 24/11/2018 11:12

MP for Christchurch

Cottonflowers · 24/11/2018 11:12

I know people who have voted for him, I don’t think they’re very aware of his voting record.

There should be a campaign to make potential voters aware of his awfulness next time his seat is up for grabs! God I am so angry about this.

PostNotInHaste · 24/11/2018 11:16

I have taken to suggesting they look at his voting record but it seems they feel he is a fairly decent constituency MP depressingly.

Chethang · 24/11/2018 11:22

Perhaps FGM isn't top of their list!

Pimpernell · 24/11/2018 11:24

Perhaps FGM isn't top of their list!

And your point is?

MPs can only cope with the one issue that's top of their list?

PostNotInHaste · 24/11/2018 11:26

I think sadly it would take a bit of a miracle for Christchurch to deselect him

LakieLady · 24/11/2018 11:32

I wonder what his objection to PMB's is?

Quite a bit of significant legislation started its life as a PMB, including the Act that legalised abortion back in the 60s. I also have a (dim, very dim) recollection that the campaign against FGM first got a mention in parliament via a PMB.

Perhaps that's the reason, he doesn't like PMBs because they're often used to advance women's rights, the misogynist fossil.

Cottonflowers · 24/11/2018 11:43

He claims it is something to do with PMBs not being democratic and that is why he's against them? Also something to do with Fridays but don't know what exactly.

But he has also put forward his own PMBs. Also seems to prefer objecting to PMBs which are put forward by Labour, Lib Dems etc.

Maybe it's time for a campaign in the local press for the area?

Chethang · 24/11/2018 11:48

No. The people of Christchurch.

Cottonflowers · 24/11/2018 11:49

I think sadly it would take a bit of a miracle for Christchurch to deselect him

I just don't see how anyone could be against anti-FGM laws Angry

Is he a good MP in other ways?

OP posts:
Tiscold · 24/11/2018 12:05

He gotes against all private members bills on principle.

They're held on friday and very few mps turn up to the debates and votes, he feels a decsiion should not be voted through by sich a small number of mps. For example least week there was i believe 12 mps vpting on private memebrs bills.

I can see where he is coming from in the fact barely anyones views gets represented because such few people turn up to vote on private member bills, however i think he could make exceptions on such major issues where only sick fucking creeps would say fgm and upskirting is ok.
