To ask if you are a good dancer?

And if so, did you learn or was it something you just ‘knew’ how to do? I mean clubbing/party dancing rather than a particular or formal style.

I’m a shit dancer. I’m so self conscious, I look wooden and forced. I enjoy doing it though so want to learn to be better so the self-consciousness doesn’t ruin it. Any tips?

Well I need alcohol to loosen up, otherwise I’m totakky awkward and would just do that dude to side door shuffle older relatives do at weddings. And I can’t follow a routine. I have to freestyle. But if the music is right and I’ve had a couple yes, I’m pretty good.

MaryofMislethwaiteManor · 20/11/2018 23:56

Sorry, my keypad has gone NUTS.

Should read ‘side to side floor shuffle’

You know the one. Move left foot to meet right foot. Move left foot back
to the side and move right foot to meet it. Repeat. For sixty minutes.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/11/2018 23:57

I'm probably a shit dancer but I don't care! I just loosen up and move to the music. I'm old enough to know that nobody cares how ridiculous I may or may not look.

Lovingbenidorm · 21/11/2018 00:00

You either got it or you don’t.
Main thing is, dance for fun, enjoy it and don’t give a shit what you look like

DramaAlpaca · 21/11/2018 00:01

No, I have two left feet & no sense of rhythm whatsoever.

PhilODox · 21/11/2018 00:09

Yes, and I love it!
Just feel the music and let yourself go but not like Elaine in Seinfeld

plumprincess · 21/11/2018 00:13

@MaryofMislethwaiteManor 🤣🤣🤣 for 60 minutes. So precise.

MrsTerryPratcett · 21/11/2018 00:17

I think it's a combination of natural rhythm, practice and copying better dancers!

Soso7789 · 21/11/2018 02:40

I'm fantastic. Because I think I am and don't give a shit 😂😂😂 I think dancing is about having fun, so if you're having fun you're winning 👯‍♀️

Adversecamber22 · 21/11/2018 02:40

My Mother was a professional dancer, she did teach us at home and I also took dance classes as an adult. DS has never had a lesson in his life. We are both really decent at dancing, we joke we have her genetics, It feels like the most natural thing in the world.

DroningOn · 21/11/2018 04:01

Nope, I'm generally awful, but just occasionally, the stars align, the music's right and I've had +2 glasses of wine and for a short while I'm a dancing ninja with moves to make John Travolta jealous.

But more often than not I'm bloody awful, I have a natural dancing style that sees my lower body remain stuck firmly to the floor while my arms and torso sway to the beat of some imaginary music not actually being played or heard by others in the room Blush

Rachelover40 · 21/11/2018 04:31

I'm a reasonable dancer. I can use my hips well enough and have some musicality. It's not unreasonable of you to ask me but what you will do with the information I don't know :-). I will say I was self conscious about dancing until I was in my twenties.

Itsallabout · 21/11/2018 05:40

No I am not a natural at all, I do a combination of parent dancing and 1980's style aerobics.

I don't care and if I want to dance I will. Life is too short to be perfect or to worry what everyone else thinks of you.
In reality, I would judge someone far more for thrusting themselves around like Channing Tatum than I would someone who is trying and having fun.

thereallifesaffy · 21/11/2018 07:19

Of course I am. After several
Glasses of white wine Grin

Eliza9917 · 21/11/2018 07:24

I'm a great dancer!

Unfortunately that's the point I should be taken home Grin

speakout · 21/11/2018 07:27

No, I don't dance, I am far too inhibited.

It doesn't help having a daughter that teaches ballet, I feel like a slug wearing wellies if she is around.

Camomila · 21/11/2018 07:32

Me...I don't know if its natural or not as I spent my teen years doing ballet/contemporary/jazz/street dance so I was well trained by the time I was old enough to go clubbing!

I'm not very good at partner dances though...but I blame DH.

thisonebreath · 21/11/2018 07:47

I'm fairly certain I used to be in my clubbing days. 🕺Somewhere along the line it morphed into parent dancing. 😁 I don't have the pelvic floor for it these days. Like another poster, if I'm about to crack out the moves, I should probably be going home. 😉😆

zingally · 21/11/2018 07:48

I enjoy a good boogie at a party a couple of times a year, and would say I'm reasonable at it. But generally I'd say, the sort of "I'm at a party and I'm gonna bust some moves" style dancing comes more from confidence than actual talent.

In my own informal observations, the people who dance well at these sorts of events are those people who are fairly musical/enjoy music, and like dancing.

If you want tips, watch someone on the dancefloor who you think moves well, and copy them.

AcidPops · 21/11/2018 07:49

No one cares what you look like on the dance floor. Just enjoy yourself xxxxx

hamburgers · 21/11/2018 07:53

Yes I'm a good dancer. Learned from early age as a child. Love hitting the dance floor at parties!

Can't stand watching shows like Strictly because I can't stand watching people who can't dance.

Thesmallthings · 21/11/2018 07:56

I can't dance to save my life, but if the music is right and if had a few I don't care

My df on the other hand is a really good dancer and I could just watch him dance all night.
Luckly and weirdly he loves dancing with me so at least one of us looks good

Oysterbabe · 21/11/2018 07:59

I look like Teresa May, I don't even know what I'm supposed to do.

Mummadeeze · 21/11/2018 08:08

It is all about confidence and being uninhibited. The more self conscious you are, the less good your dancing is in my opinion. You could always have a go at Just Dance to help teach you some moves. Or watch some music videos. Also practice a bit in front of a mirror on your own to see what looks good. Mostly just go for it, let loose, be silly and have fun.

Onemorefireball · 21/11/2018 08:10

No. I am so self conscious. I do love a dance routine though and can learn those well. I wish there were more songs with routines!
