Mumford & Sons cancel/postpone 4 gigs 😡

So annoyed (as are thousands of other people according to Twitter) that they have cancelled 4 dates because of logistical reasons.

Apparently they have realised they can't take down and put up their massive stage and need a days grace in order to do so. They've announced this tonight with some people only having 48 hours notice,. We are pretty disgusted with them. We've seen them twice and love them but so disappointed.

They are offering full refunds but people have spent hundreds of pounds on hotels and transport (planes and trains) many of which are not refundable. Plus people having their own logistics to even get to a gig, with booking babysitters and time off work etc etc.

Pretty poor show from such an international band. I hope whoever has cocked this up gets the sack.

That's really shitty. Why wouldn't they check something like that?

Blanchedupetitpois · 19/11/2018 21:25

That is terrible! No excuse for such bad planning

Faerie87 · 19/11/2018 21:41

I have tickets for Manchester on Wednesday!

Was really looking forward to this, I was going with a friend and we have both arranged child care to go!

Well gutted!

Thanks for posting, I would have rocked up at the Manchester arena and not realised :-)

BG2015 · 19/11/2018 21:48

We were seeing them in Sheffield on Saturday, got a non-refundable hotel booked, restaurant booked and teenager farmed out!!

Now we're going to see Macbeth at the Crucible in Sheffield which has cost us more money.

Their tour doesn't finish until next June so a long time to wait. Those poor people flying in, so gutted for them.

Squidgee · 19/11/2018 22:19

please remember, its not the bands fault this is down to their management and stage crew.

Dont be angry with the band.

Jeanclaudejackety · 19/11/2018 22:21

Ridiculous, I work in theatre and it would be very unlikely we would cancel a show before opening, it's a come hell or high water we open kind of industry. I'm sure the band are gutted but it's their name that this lands on really isn't it.

Got tickets for one of the shows but it will prob be postponed for a date I can't do. Probably 70 quid down the drain then.

GreyGardens88 · 19/11/2018 22:24

I'm sure they could find some way of performing if they could be arsed to figure it out

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 19/11/2018 22:27

Which genius masterminded the schedule with a set design that couldn’t accommodate it? Idiots.

SpoonBlender · 19/11/2018 22:37

Was just wondering how this worked earlier today. Friends went to see Taylor Swift recently, I saw the photos last night and this morning was pondering whether they have two/three sets that travel in advance and take a week to put together or whatever.

I guess in Mumford & Sons case, they just have the one.

BG2015 · 20/11/2018 07:21

Squidgee I do blame them though. They pay their managers and stage crews wages.

The four arenas total 50,500 capacity that's a lot of people disappointed and inconvenienced. The average ticket is £70 so that's £3, 535,000 in ticket sales. Not to mention the £13 CDs that a lot of people pre ordered so they could get early ticket codes.

They SHOULD have carried on and performed regardless and apologised for their stage/ set not being the same at every venue. That would have shown how much they value their fans.

I bet th majority of people would rather see them perform than wait for the all singing al dancing 'show' - they're a bloody folk band. My DH says they can stick their banjos up their arses!

Rant over.

We've had this happen a few times, most recently D'Angelo cancelled his tour in the summer, still waiting for our refund, two tickets were well over £400. Angry

mydogishot · 20/11/2018 07:40

I'd blame the band too OP.

They are who you buy tickets for, it may not be their fault that logistics and plans weren't made properly but it does fall on their name.

They've already made their money.
Making people buy a cd for a code is outrageous, will their be refunds for that?
Trains?
Hotels?
Babysitters?

They've obviously, from what a PP said, not made the cancellations very clear.

Just shows how little they care about fans.

IceRebel · 20/11/2018 07:50

Wow that's really poor of them to cancel with so little notice. Shock

It's also concerning that at least 1 poster only found out via this thread that the show they were going to has been cancelled. Have the ticket company or venue not been in touch via email or phone?

Sitranced · 20/11/2018 07:53

This happens quite often with a lot of artists. We saw a band that weekend originally billed to play at the Troxy in London but had to move to Electric Brixton due to setup/takedown logistics. Same day but different venue. A lot easier to do in London admittedly because of the number of venues available.

MiniCooperLover · 20/11/2018 07:53

I agree with you OP, it's 100% on the band in terms of responsibility.. we don't need a fancy show, just the band. And if they'd gone ahead and done that they'd have prob won a whole legion of new fans instead of alienating them. I feel really bad for everyone in those 4 shows. I'm going to the London one but will be on tenderhooks waiting to see if it happens now.

BG2015 · 20/11/2018 07:55

We had an email as my DH follows their fan page.

Ticketmaster and others haven't contacted people yet according to individuals on Twitter.

I think some artists lose sight of the real world. People don't have money to waste.

OP posts:
MadisonAvenue · 20/11/2018 07:58

I’m not really familiar with the band but why do they need an elaborate stage set? I’d have thought their shows were more about the music and a basic stage and lighting set up would suffice?

I really feel for those of you who have had their shows cancelled, and it’s especially gutting if you’re losing money due to something like this. Apologies from millionaire artists don’t really cut it when you’ve got non-refundable travel and hotels.

Faerie87 · 20/11/2018 08:00

I am glad that I did not book train tickets as I was going to drive there, but I can imagine trains/hotels/childcare all costs money that quite frankly many people can’t afford to lose especially this time of year xx

IceRebel · 20/11/2018 08:07

that quite frankly many people can’t afford to lose especially this time of year xx

Exactly, easy to forget when you're a world famous band without money problems. Sad

RedDwarves · 20/11/2018 08:08

That's terrible. Their management must be pretty shit too for them not to have figured this out sooner.

SoupDragon · 20/11/2018 08:12

That's my impression of them band too.

Rudgie47 · 20/11/2018 08:31

Trains and hotels should give refunds surely?
Just think of it as a lucky escape as they are crap anyway and do something better with your time.

PatchworkElmer · 20/11/2018 08:34

Rudgie some cheaper train and hotel rates aren’t. My train ticket to work each day is non-refundable.

This is absolutely disgusting.

TwiceMagic · 20/11/2018 08:38

If they’d had any sense they’d have played those gigs as stripped back gigs, and possibly offered the people who attended free tickets to rescheduled full gigs (if the Mumford and sons stage show is really that important).

EduCated · 20/11/2018 08:39

Saw this yesterday, it’s pretty crap all round.

It did get me thinking - is there such a thing as cancelled gig insurance? Was thinking about UK travel insurance, but not sure it would pay out for trains/hotels still just because the gig was cancelled.

There seems to have been a few high profile cancellations/postponements recently, and starting to think there must be a market for it.
