Mumford & Sons cancel/postpone 4 gigs 😡

So annoyed (as are thousands of other people according to Twitter) that they have cancelled 4 dates because of logistical reasons.

Apparently they have realised they can't take down and put up their massive stage and need a days grace in order to do so. They've announced this tonight with some people only having 48 hours notice,. We are pretty disgusted with them. We've seen them twice and love them but so disappointed.

They are offering full refunds but people have spent hundreds of pounds on hotels and transport (planes and trains) many of which are not refundable. Plus people having their own logistics to even get to a gig, with booking babysitters and time off work etc etc.

Pretty poor show from such an international band. I hope whoever has cocked this up gets the sack.

They are still playing in Glasgow tonight.

OddBoots · 20/11/2018 12:51

They really should have gone ahead with less set and given a partial refund, that must have been better for all involved given that the venues etc will still need paying.

They're so talented and could have played it stripped back. Seems very strange.

This does sound like an excuse given that as a PP said, by the logic they gave, they only needed to cancel 2 gigs. And as the cancellation message would have been signed off by the band, it absolutely is the band’s fault.

I do wonder if the real reason has nothing to do with the set, and that is being blamed when actually the reason does lie directly with the band. It just seems very odd that they have chosen not to perform with a pared down set when as everyone has said, the set and theatrical show-iness has never been part of their USP.

Roman I'm now giggling at the thought of a Mumford version of The Circus Tour...

This happened to us in the summer. We'd booked train and hotel way in advance (non refundable and cheaper rates - wouldn't have been able to go otherwise) and found out literally hours before when we'd already travelled for 3 hours. Gutted. Of course they would refund if you couldn't make the new date but we could and had been waiting to see this act for years so had to fork out again for new trains and another room a few weeks later. W e lent this money as it was really important to us. The act was ill so yes, I kind of understand it's different and not their fault, but it's really shitty when it leaves you put of pocket and its obvious they earn way too much to ever have money worries again!!!

We're still going to Sheffield and going to see Macbeth now at the Crucible Theatre - cost us another £50!

This is so shitty. If i was in this situation i would contact their management company and record label and would be asking for a full refund on everything i spent.

So disappointing for anyone with tickets 😢I was at Belfast gig on Sunday night-first time seeing them in concert.....wow it was absolutely amazing, serious talent. We very nearly booked flights & tickets to go again next Sunday (it was that good!) glad now we didn't!

ForalltheSaints · 20/11/2018 21:08

Awful. Why they need an elaborate stage is beyond me. I can understand some talentless karaoke group such as the Spice Girls or Westlife, but for a proper band, why?

rslsys · 20/11/2018 21:47

The same Mumford & Sons who gigged with Ray Davies (of Kinks fame) and (allegedly) asked him to simplify some of the chord changes in his songs as they couldn't play them?

WhatchaMaCalllit · 20/11/2018 21:53

This is part of the reason why a big band like U2 have multiple versions of their stage and set that while one is being constructed in a future venue, they are performing on another and when that gig is over it is sent on ahead to be set up for another concert. Many bands have this kind of set up. That costs a lot of money to do though. Probably more than you've outlined in your post above.
