About the unbearable smell from my lodgers room

Lodger has been here for about 6 months and in that time the stench from his room has got worse and worse.

It's a difficult smell to explain but I expect a combination of not cleaning, not washing his sheets, never opening a window or the blinds and also leaving laundry to dry in his room. He also eats in his room and leaves plates there.

I've bought air fresheners, asked him to open the bathroom window, closed the door and cleaned his room when he isn't here but I cannot get rid of the smell.

He also STINKS when he uses the bathroom. He went out last night and will be spending all day festering in bed, alternating between stinking out the bathroom with disgusting hangover stomach and sweating in bed. I have a nicely kept and decorated house and usually spend my Saturday doing chores but feels like there is no point due to the hideous smell hanging around.

What can I do please?! Is there any salvaging this or am I being OTT?

Urgh. Just give him notice.

HoleyCoMoley · 17/11/2018 11:58

Ask him to leave then deep clean his room.

Blanchedupetitpois · 17/11/2018 11:59

I’d get rid - he sounds fucking gross. Find someone less foul!

PositiveVibez · 17/11/2018 12:01

I would be getting rid too I'm afraid.

filka · 17/11/2018 12:01

YANBU, It's your home, give him notice to quit. There'll be someone else grateful for the room.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/11/2018 12:02

That is vile and unacceptable. Get rid immediately.

AGHHHH · 17/11/2018 12:20

Give him notice. That's disgusting.

mylightbulbmoment · 17/11/2018 12:23

Give him notice.

wowfudge · 17/11/2018 12:25

Give him notice. Clean the carpet and curtains when he's gone and burn the mattress.

ThatOneHurt · 17/11/2018 12:26

Out!

abigailsnan · 17/11/2018 12:26

You already know what you need to do,get rid of him and get your lovely home back to normal.
There will be someone out there ready and waiting to take your room and behave like a normal human being.

TheChickenOfTruth · 17/11/2018 12:31

You might be overreacting/OTT (in that his level of hygiene might not bother other people to the extent it does you) but that's not really the point. If a lodger makes you uncomfortable in your own home for whatever reason, it's best to politely terminate the contract and find someone more suitable.

EmeraldVillage · 17/11/2018 12:32

Give notice.

MadeForThis · 17/11/2018 12:32

Eeeww. Tell him to leave. You don't have to live like that. It just hasn't worked out.

Skatersbeskating · 17/11/2018 12:33

Sexist but - get a female next time.

FermatsTheorem · 17/11/2018 12:35

Another vote for give him notice.

iveeatenallofit · 17/11/2018 12:36

Jesus why have you put up with this for six months? You'll have to burn your house down now, there's nowt else to do.

Aridane · 17/11/2018 12:37

Give notice, deep clean, another lodger

SheSellSeaShells · 17/11/2018 12:42

blurghhhhh - give him notice

Time40 · 17/11/2018 12:44

Is it like you would imagine it to be if there were a giant rodent in there? I had a lodger like that once.

Tell him to clean up, pronto, and keep clean in future. Give him notice if he doesn't.

The80sweregreat · 17/11/2018 12:45

give notice, get the room fumigated and have better lodgers.
good luck!!

Vixxxy · 17/11/2018 12:45

I would be getting rid personally, unless he paid for a deep clean then kept ontop of it. I don't understand people who live in filth..my house is far from perfect but it doesn't smell and is not dirty. A bit messy most of the time when the kids are up though!

Mouikey · 17/11/2018 12:47

In reality you have 3 options: do nothing, have a frank discussion with him in the hope things improve (😂) or get rid.

Quite frankly I can’t see why you would want to do either of the first two though.

KingPrawnBalls · 17/11/2018 12:48

Fuck that! Get him out op Envy

MrsApplepants · 17/11/2018 12:53

Yuk, get rid.
