What can I use instead of washing up liquid?

Feeling very strongly about not getting out of my pyjamas yet and going to the shop but I really need to do the dishes (dishwasher is broken).

Have no cunting washing up liquid though! What can I use as a replacement?

Shampoo?

Momo27 · 17/11/2018 10:25

Shampoo? Conditioner? Elbow grease?!

Zoflorabore · 17/11/2018 10:25

This was me an hour ago ( I don't have a dishwasher in the first place though,I'm the dishwasher! ) and I have every cleaning product under the sun.

I ended up going to get some. Couldn't think of a single product that makes bubbles and would be safe to use.

Someone more knowledgeable may come along and say otherwise but I wasn't taking the chance!

Hand wash?

BertBox · 17/11/2018 10:26

If you've got dishwater tablets just dissolve one of them.

DownUdderer · 17/11/2018 10:26

Body wash?

Millipedewithherfeetup · 17/11/2018 10:26

Shampoo/hand soap all the same stuff. ..just make sure it's well rinsed.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/11/2018 10:27

I think I’ll try the shampoo. My nice expensive shampoo... Grin

I did consider zoflora but that will probably poison us all.

Just normal hand soap, liquid or a bar. That's what we use at a summer place we go where no washing up liquid can go into the septic system, works fine.

Zoflorabore · 17/11/2018 10:35

Do not use Zoflora!! You will never get rid of the taste/smell from the dishes.

Zoflora soup anyone?

Op just go and get some Fairy!

Birdie6 · 17/11/2018 10:37

Shampoo, then rinse them . Easy.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/11/2018 10:41

I went for the hand soap because it’s strawberry laces flavour Grin

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 17/11/2018 10:52

Is that not disinfectant too?

Mum0fteens · 17/11/2018 10:54

Bubble bath or shampoo..... done this many times when I'm just too lazy! 😂

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/11/2018 10:54

I think I will re wash them when I’ve been out and bought some liquid.

Ordinary soap - but rinse everything in plain hot water afterwards. I always wondered why both my grannies and my grandad did this although my mother and everyone else's mum didn't. Ma explained that until washing up liquid like fairy became generally available washing up was always done with soap, and unless the residue was rinsed off you ended up with soapy tasting food. Old habits die hard and the pre-war generation tended to keep rinsing even with Fairy Liquid.

I actually still rinse in very hot water after hand washing up glass. It makes it much more sparkly as the items will dry off on the draining rack and not need wiping.
