to ask about your baby's eye colour?

My baby has dark grey/blue eyes (4 weeks old) and I'm very curious to know what they're going to change to!

How did your baby's eyes change as they got older?

DS1 had dark purple eyes - turned out brown. DS2 had blue eyes which are now a grey green or grey blue depending on the day

QuarterMileAtATime · 15/11/2018 15:55

DS had deep brown eyes from very early on - days old.
DD had dark blue/grey eyes that changed very gradually, still looking mainly blue/green around 6 months and ending up a hazel brown colour around a year old.
I have blue eyes (from both parents). Their Dad has brown eyes (with one parent brown and one parent blue).

blackteasplease · 15/11/2018 15:58

I was born with what my Mum describes as navy blue eyes - they turned very quickly to v dark brown (nearly black) - within a couple of days.

Dd was born with very blue eyes and they've stayed v blue.

Ds also born with blue eyes, turned green (darkosh green I would say).

Their Dad has blue eyes.

Amicompletelyinsane · 15/11/2018 15:59

MY boys had bright blue from birth, still do. My daughter had blue/ grey eyes at birth. Within a day they looked all cloudy and within the first week they changed to brown. All her newborn pics in hospital don't even look like her without her eyes being brown

PonderLand · 15/11/2018 15:59

Ds had dark blue eyes for months, then hazel and now at 2 years old they seem to going darker. Me and his dad both have brown eyes but both his uncles are hazel.

UbercornsGoggles · 15/11/2018 16:00

My daughter had dark slate grey eyes when she was born. They took over a year to change to a bluey hazel colour, and now at 2 her eyes are olive green like mine.

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 15/11/2018 16:01

Mine were born with very dark, almost black eyes. Now a dark brown. I have very dark brown eyes and husband has brown eyes. Mine were navy blue for the first couple of weeks apparently.

OutPinked · 15/11/2018 16:02

DC1 had bright blue eyes from the off that gradually changed to grey/green by the time he was two. Likewise my eyes were bright blue until I was two when they became green.

DC2 was born with extremely dark eyes and they have always been mud brown.

DC3 had dark blue eyes until she was one when they turned dark brown.

DC4 is only two weeks old but I think they will be brown, they’re very dark blue.

TakeMe2Insanity · 15/11/2018 16:02

Ds had bright blue eyes at birth. They’ve changed to grey, then green, then yellowy and now for the past 3 months settled at yellowy-brown. Definitely not chocolate brown. Still interesting how they got here.

craftymum01 · 15/11/2018 16:03

DS was born with darkish blue eyes (no quite navy but getting on for it). They are now green like mine and DHs. It happened so gradually I didn't notice straight away, but now he is 2 they are the exact same shade as mine.

CatLadyToddlerMother · 15/11/2018 16:05

DD was born with beautiful royal blue coloured eyes.

They're now an equally beautiful brown colour

Sportsnight · 15/11/2018 16:06

Murky Steel blue which turned to a very clear, very light blue.

FindaPenny · 15/11/2018 16:08

Daughter was born with dark blue eyes....they slowly turned green with gold on the inside and now are between hazel and brown.... When she cries they seem to look green again!

swingofthings · 15/11/2018 16:09

My DS first passport show him at 5 months old with very bright blue eyes. By the time he was 18 months old, they'd turned Hazel, light brown/orange in the middle, dark green around it. You'd never thought his eyes were that blue at 5 months old.

Cardiola · 15/11/2018 16:13

I have bright blue/green eyes but am mixed black/Caucasian so lots of dark brown on dads side of family (not sure where my blue eyes came from!). DP also has very bright blue eyes. DS has very dark murky blue eyes atm but I read that baby eyes only tend to get darker, not lighter.... probably nonsense but very curious!

DS1 was born with bright blue eyes which turned into green with a navy ring around the edge of the iris when he was around 8 - just like mine.

DD had dark navy eyes at birth which very quickly turned dark brown, almost black.

DS2 had blue eyes at birth which gradually turned into light brown by the time he was 1.

DS3 had pale blue eyes at birth, he's just turned 3 and I'd say they are grey-blue now.

FinalScore · 15/11/2018 16:16

DD was born with black eyes, turned brown like mine. Her twin brother was born with light blue eyes, turned blue/grey like DH's.

I was looking at some of their baby pictures a few days ago. DD's black eyes don't look odd to me but some people were shocked. There was no difference between her iris and the colour around. Just black.

Labmum · 15/11/2018 16:19

DS was born with dark blue eyes which gradually lightened to bright blue. He was also born with dark/black hair which all fell out and grew back fair.
He's 1/4 chinese so a blue eyed, blonde haired baby was very unexpected!

Merryoldgoat · 15/11/2018 16:26

If you have blue eyes and your partner also does, your child will have blue eyes too.

I have brown as does my husband but both our fathers have blue eyes so we are both carriers. One son has dark brown eyes like me (75% chance) and the other is blue eyed (25%) chance.

MyAuntyBadger · 15/11/2018 16:33

Both of mine had bright blue eyes and twenty five years later they're still bright blue (very light with a navy ring around them). I have blue eyes (as do my parents, sister and pretty much all of my family), their dad has green eyes. You can't tell at this stage, a friend's ds had blue eyes until about 18 months, then hazel and now as an adult I'd say they're a light brown.

ReflectionsofParadise · 15/11/2018 16:37

17m old and still grey brown green sludge colour. I have bright blue eyes. Dad has hazel. Kid's are turning more brown.

I'd have loved him to have my blue eyes tbh. I didn't realise how rare they were until I paid attention to other people's when he was born. All my blood family have blue eyes apart from two cousins.

I'm one of 3 with blue eyes out of friend circle of about 35 people 🙈

Merryoldgoat · 15/11/2018 16:37

You CAN tell in some instances - with two blue-eyed parents it’s only possible for your offspring to have blue eyes.

flumposie · 15/11/2018 16:37

my daughter had bright blue eyes that have turned green

ReflectionsofParadise · 15/11/2018 16:40

@Merryoldgoat that's not true. What we were taught about eye colours at school was debunked years ago. Brother's daughter has green and hazel eyes. He has blue. Wife has blue. Iui baby and a clone of him.

TheChickenOfTruth · 15/11/2018 16:40

Blue grey when he was born, green grey at 6 mo, chocolate brown at 2yo.

Husband and I both have Hazel eyes.
