Democrats win the House, and he’s already fired Sessions: Trump thread 87

We start this new thread on a brighter note: the mid-terms were a win for the Democrats, securing the House of Representatives and further seats in the Senate. This means more scrutiny for POTUS and the GOP, and bargaining power.

He’s still a feckless, vain bully, oddly admired by some varieties of Christians - enjoy the cartoon by Mike Luckovich.

That would be 'Jay Wallace, former President, FOX News' ?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 14/11/2018 16:40

Might be related to this, although I'm not really up to speed so no idea of how informed the speculation is

Now that @FOXNews has lost one of their top advertisers, they seem to want to distance themselves from @realDonaldTrump

AcrossthePond55 · 14/11/2018 16:58

Fox eventually concedes that a free press is important

Fox is hedging its bets. They know that at some point the worm will have completely turned and they don't want a precedent set by which one of their reporters can be similarly excluded from important news events. If they were 100% sure they wouldn't be excluded somewhere down the line, they'd be screaming that CNN has no legal standing and that Scrotus has a right to exclude whomsoever he chooses.

Berliners have shown how to stop the march of the far right
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/nov/14/marching-together-far-right-fascist-wir-fur-deutschland

Something significant has just occurred in Berlin. The far-right group Wir für Deutschland (We for Germany), which has been marching in the capital since 2016, has just announced that it will no longer protest there. Explaining the decision in a frustration-filled statement on Facebook, Wir für Deutschland credited three factors in particular.

First, there was fatigue; it no longer wished to march round in circles, which had been a fitting metaphor for the spiralling hatred of their ethos. Second, there was discomfort: its members had grown tired of being screamed at by anti-fascists. Third, there was the nemesis whose compassion towards refugees had made them take to the streets in the first place. “[Chancellor Angela] Merkel has defeated us,” said Kay Hönicke and Enrico Stubbe, the organisers of the demonstrations.

What is driving this progressive revival? Well, at both political and street level, the answers appear to be the same: a clear, positive vision of the future, and an endless supply of patience.

I've just seen a photo of the incoming house. The GOP members elect are so white and so male - at a quick glance one woman among them (also white). Will that ever change?

Could any of Rupert Murdoch's meetings have made Fox take that decision? I know he's got fingers in lots of pies, but I'm not sure how he ties into Fox.

cozietoesie · 14/11/2018 17:27

Rupert Murdoch is like the 'old coon dog'. He sits and waits..........

Lweji · 14/11/2018 17:28

Snow White vs over 50% women and all sorts.

Who does GOP represent? Hmm

cozietoesie · 14/11/2018 17:31

Perking

.... Their deflated tone suggests that, for now at least, hate is too much like hard work......

That worries me for the USA.

cozietoesie · 14/11/2018 18:03

The Dems now need a 2020 candidate.

cozietoesie · 14/11/2018 19:10

Mother's hands will be bleeding by now.😃

Lol at Policy Time. Everything about this administration is infantilised, sinister or both.

"With the certainty that the incoming Democratic House majority will go after his tax returns and investigate his actions, and the likelihood of additional indictments by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, Trump has retreated into a cocoon of bitterness and resentment, according to multiple administration sources."

Ooh, is Diddums having an ickle tantwum? Is Diddums tewwibly cwoss that hims toys may be taken away fwom hims? Is hims afwaid that the House won't want to pway wif Diddums anymore after Januawy? Oooh, poor ickle Diddums.

I'm hoping that among his many books, SecDef has a well-thumbed copy of anything by Schlesinger.

TheClaws · 14/11/2018 21:41

Sorry, this is too funny.

Well, in our house 'yak' is a synonym for vomit, so.........

🤮

TheClaws · 14/11/2018 22:05

ginandtonic were you asking how Rupert Murdoch relates to Fox? He owns it. Excuse me if I didn’t understand you. Smile

TheClaws · 14/11/2018 22:09

Another murky ownership I discovered this morning - Fox’s Tucker Carlson also co-owns The Daily Caller, a far-right site that POTUS had a moan on just today (thehill.com/homenews/administration/416750-trump-warns-antifa-opposition-to-you-could-be-tougher-and-much-more).
