Democrats win the House, and he’s already fired Sessions: Trump thread 87

We start this new thread on a brighter note: the mid-terms were a win for the Democrats, securing the House of Representatives and further seats in the Senate. This means more scrutiny for POTUS and the GOP, and bargaining power.

He’s still a feckless, vain bully, oddly admired by some varieties of Christians - enjoy the cartoon by Mike Luckovich.

An opinion piece from North Korea about Human Rights - a fascinating perspective indeed, and there is some shades of truth to be found in it, as these things are never clear-cut. (From Rodong Sinmun).

Serious Human Rights Situation in Western Countries

Western countries cooked up and spread a human rights document of falsehoods and fabrications in a bid to internationalize and politicize the non-existent “human rights question” in the DPRK.

A serious human rights question exists in the western countries.

The U.S., which styles itself the “model” of capitalism, is swarming with unemployed and homeless people. Murder, robbery and other high-profile crimes are rampant there.

Colored and minority races there have their rights wantonly violated in education, legal protection, election, etc.

There is not much difference in Japan, which likes to brag itself as a “law-governed state” and “advanced state”, and in European countries which slander other countries, behaving as if they were the “model” in respecting human rights.

Child maltreatment is rife and sexual abuses against children are on the steady increase in Japan.

Women, children, persons of advanced age and those with disabilities who should be under the care of social protection are just forsaken by the society. This is the pitiful human rights situation in Japan.

The same is the human rights situation in European countries.

The U.S., Japan and Western countries had better cure their human rights illness, instead of criticizing others groundlessly.

Abrams ends fight in Georgia governor's race
thehill.com/homenews/campaign/417209-abrams-concedes-georgia-governors-race

"I acknowledge that former Secretary of State Brian Kemp will be certified the victor in the 2018 gubernatorial elections," Abrams said Friday, surrounded by sullen-looking supporters.

"But to watch an elected official who claims to represent this state baldly pin his hopes for election on suppression of the democratic right to vote is truly appalling," she added.

He tries to explain why he didn't go to the cemetery on Monday.....Angry
Why can't he speak in normal sentences? Is it because he's lying?

ThisIsAQuestion · 17/11/2018 00:09

Sorry, that should've been 'why he didn't go to the cemetery on Sunday'

cozietoesie · 17/11/2018 00:13

He doesn't usually speak in 'normal sentences'. It's an interesting insight into his mental processes.

Lweji · 17/11/2018 02:13

Someone must have told him that with a Democratic Congress pushing impeachment forward, GOP Senators could get it through before or after the election and get Pence to his place.
With low popularity, it becomes a real possibility.

House Republicans can ask me anything they want but I want the American people to watch, so let’s have a public hearing. Truth is best served by transparency. Let me know when is convenient.

This is the Acting AG’s inaugural appearance before his colleagues of the DOJ. Commonly, a speech such as this would be standing room only, but going by the image Whitaker is being sent a message.

Heroic expenses are a great journalism tradition but Melania's day trip to Toronto is next level: "at least six separate Toronto hotel charges...for a total of roughly $174,000. She did not spend the night"

Trump's Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has been spending millions of dollars on round-the-clock security even though calendars we uncovered show she only spent 4% of her time visiting public schools last year. via @HeidiPrzybyla: nbcnews.com/politics/polit…
twitter.com/weareoversight/status/1063507494201372672?s=21

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos security could cost U.S. taxpayers $19.8 million through September of 2019, according to new figures provided by the Marshals Service.

The $12.1 million that U.S. taxpayers have already paid for the extra security DeVos receives would have paid for 1,968 Pell Grants or 268 new elementary teachers in Kansas.

PerkingFaintly · 17/11/2018 10:02

How peculiar.

Given it's DeVos, whose brother owns private military forces, I'd be looking at whether the Marshals just happened to outsource DeVos's security to, ahem, a private contractor. For a modest sum, of course.

So Angry about Abrams.

I saw that Rousette. As if we didn't know ...

What is Melania up to with those expenses?

PerkingFaintly · 17/11/2018 11:13

More from Rousette's link, for those who didn't click:

Donald Trump wrote own health letter, says physician Harold Bornstein
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-43970908

In an interview with CNN, Mr Bornstein said the 2015 letter suggesting that Mr Trump would be the "healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency" was not his professional assessment. "[Mr Trump] dictated the letter and I would tell him what he couldn't put in there," he said.

Like you both say, as if we didn't know.Hmm

Can't remember if I've mentioned this, but I've long had a personal theory about that medical report from White House doctor Ronny Jackson, which added an inch to 45's height.

I reckon Jackson was flying a distress flag. He snuck a flattering but highly visible falsehood into the report, so we'd know the rest of the report was also false.

GrinitchSpinach · 17/11/2018 11:43

Cheney is responsible for so much suffering and destruction, both overseas and domestically. I'm glad his aide is being investigated.

At the same time, guess who just got elected chair of the House Republican conference? (This is the number 3 position in GOP leadership): Liz Cheney.
