AIBU to think that they just shouldn't?

OP posts:

After hearing an advert for the upcoming concert consisting of them all "la la laing" I would agree. They sounded pretty terrible to me.

Shaboohshoobah1 · 09/11/2018 06:12

I agree. Who is their target market these days? And have they really spent all that money so that they have to do it? (Which is surely the only reason they’re doing it?)

malificent7 · 09/11/2018 06:13

I wonder why Victoria isn't joining them. Dd aged 6 loved wanna be.

ButDoYouAvocado · 09/11/2018 06:17

Im not interested at all. Its just a money making exercise. I was surprised that it got top billing on BBC news 2 days running.

Notquiteagandt · 09/11/2018 06:21

Tbf I would go for the nostalgia. Ticket prices are rediculous though. Start at around £90 for the rubbish seats!!

Returnofthesmileybar · 09/11/2018 06:55

Victoria isn't joining them I imagine because she has most sense, has a success career in a different field, doesn't need the money and realises there is zero point in opening herself up to scrutiny and ridicule. She's right too. I just can't see this working at all at all.

Amelia67 · 09/11/2018 06:56

I can't see how they would sell out stadiums but maybe I'm being naive. Is the nostalgia really enough with them? I get that it did it for Take That and the like but I just can't see people being willing to pay around £100 or more for a couple of hours of what was shit singing back in the day and what has probably got a lot worse now. Remains to be seen I guess!

MidnightAura · 09/11/2018 07:04

I was a huge Spice Girls fan back in the day ( I was ten!) but this reeks of desperation. It wasn’t too long ago Mel C refused to do it and it was just going to be Emma, Geri and Mel B.

I think it will sell well
Though I’m not buying tickets!

keepingbees · 09/11/2018 07:07

I would go if the tickets weren't so expensive, just for the nostalgia and I like a few of their songs. It looks like it's going to be very popular so I do think it's worth them doing. Who wouldn't want to make £££ if they could!

surferjet · 09/11/2018 07:12

I don’t get the whole ‘they’re only doing it for the money’ thing. Doesn’t every band / musician go on tour for the money?

It will probably be brilliant. ( & I’m not a fan )

andthelightshoneonandon · 09/11/2018 07:27

They’re all skint apart from Victoria

megletthesecond · 09/11/2018 07:28

The stadiums do seem rather optimistic.

SillySallySingsSongs · 09/11/2018 07:31

They’re all skint apart from Victoria

Geri most certainly isn't.

Caprisunorange · 09/11/2018 07:34

Geri is married to a billionaire. I can’t see why Mel C or Emma would be skint. They walked away with £30-40m each from their spice girls days apparently

SouthWestmom · 09/11/2018 07:55

To be fair, they did a huge amount of good in a quite basic way - different personalities and looks, singing about friendship, hugely successful girl band - it's a lot to be loud if I think.

It's different with TT because the fans had that 'fancying them' element which some still do.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 09/11/2018 07:59

Caprisunorange
I'm sure Christian Horner will be glad to have found out he is a billionaire, what rubbish!

Caprisunorange · 09/11/2018 08:05

Apologies millionaire. I misremembered

SaucyJack · 09/11/2018 08:06

I think Victoria has long since recognised that her talents lay outside singing and dancing. I totally get why she has no desire to remind the world of this.

Mel C was always the only one who could really sing- and Emma is pleasantly inoffensive- but the other two are just obnoxious, and Mel B’s personal life is fucking car crash right now.

I have less than no interest in going to their reunion tour in all honesty.

herecomesthsun · 09/11/2018 08:08

Spice middle aged mums?

Speaking as a middle aged mum.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 09/11/2018 08:10

They sounded crap 20 odd years ago so I doubt they will be any better now.

Btw Victoria doesn’t have a successful career apart from being the other half of brand Beckham. Her fashion line is only kept afloat by the millions each year that David pumps into it.

Caprisunorange · 09/11/2018 08:11

Like most fashion lines. They just have corporate backers rather than David Beckham

Theknacktoflying · 09/11/2018 08:15

I feel quite sorry for them. The whole ‘girl power’ message that they tried to sell has been at best sad and realise how the industry hasn’t changed at all for women ....

MrsJayy · 09/11/2018 08:16

It has worked out totally fine for Take that why wouldn't it work for the spice girls clearly Mrs B thinks she is far too cool to join in the fun Grin Good luck to them

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 09/11/2018 08:17

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/victoria-beckhams-fashion-label-loses-4-000-a-day-82hdd59p8

Losing £4K a day and that is on top of the £25 million David topped up the coffers by. Hardly a success story.

Onemorefireball · 09/11/2018 08:21

I would love to go, but it's going to be do expensive! If they were really doing it for fun and not money they'd have much cheaper tickets so as many fans as possible could go. It clearly is about money though.
