To think you don’t have a roast dinner without potatoes

DP came home with a chicken joint, Mediterranean vegetables and chicken gravy. But no roast potatoes and no potato based products!

Like when I went to a pub and someone on my table ordered fish and chips, but to replace the chips with boiled new potatoes. WTF?

I’ve sent him to Lidl nearby. He’s come back with potato gratin (acceptable) and cheese and pepperoni potato skins.

I blame it on too many years being single, in the military and either eating in the wardroom or having microwave meals.

You have my synpathy - my not so DP likes roast chicken with rice. An abomination.

You most certainly don't have a roast without potatoes
The crispy ones are the best bit of any roast.
The worst meal my kids have ever eaten was prepared by OH.

I could certainly abide- roast chicken, parsnips, carrots, broccoli and Yorkshire (YES a Yorkshire with chicken!) and gravy
I'd miss the potato's but not lament their loss.

Frankly- roast chicken , gravy, Mediterranean veg, and roast potatoes would also be amiss too- the veg would be weird. Roast chicken, med veg , gratin / potato skins all sort of go- until you add the gravy.

All variations of the foods he's bought make for something wrong unless at least one of the purchases is omitted!

I would happily prefer new potatoes and butter with my fish rather than chips, unless they are my own homemade chips,
