DP came home with a chicken joint, Mediterranean vegetables and chicken gravy. But no roast potatoes and no potato based products!

Do I LTB?

Why on God’s holy earth would you have a chicken roast on a THURSDAY
you’re both fucking bonkers, I’m surprised you can put your socks on in the morning if you can’t cope with the basics in life

I do many variations on a roast, depending on the state of our finances. So, it might mean a cheap pie, or sausages being the centre piece, or a chicken, rarely a joint of beef, sometimes pork. One thing a roast must contain though is roast potatoes. I also love 5 different vegetables, partly because DD and I love all veg, but also to accommodate the fussiness of the males in the house. Oh and gravy!! Yummy, yummy gravy!

My DH is a very good cook but, when we had friends over for fireworks on Monday, he put mini pork pies in the oven! Bizarre

Lovely to be cooked for!

But also no roast potatoes? LTB

A roast without potatage is like a cleaning cupboard without Zoflora: absolutely unthinkable and most probably illegal in some jurisdictions. Just why would you?

I'm speechless. Literally speechless.

The World has gone to hell in a hand basket.

No properties

I blame Trump.

ROASTIES

Fecking predictive. New phone sorry.

MrsTommyBanks · 09/11/2018 01:09

@Davros What fresh hell is that?

Davros · 09/11/2018 08:19

I know. I didn't touch them, what a waste!

It is not a roast dinner without roast potatoes, even if the meat is roasted. It doesn't mean that it isn't necessarily a nice meal, it may even be delicious, it just isn't a roast dinner.

ladycarlotta · 09/11/2018 11:33

sometimes in the summer we roast a chicken and have it with salads, crusty bread etc. But that is NOT a roast. A roast has roast potatoes and, for an 11/10 score, cauliflower cheese.

Heinous crime...

I once went round to a friends for dinner, lets just say she has slightly strange and weird way of concocting meals (I secretly call her Letitia Cropley). Anyhow, she bought this amazing joint of beef, organically grown and sold locally. A farm that reared a few cattle and sold to local people rather than through a butchers. She must have paid a lot of money for it. She roasted it.. Then served it with boiled (yes boiled!) parsnips and jacket potatoes with goats butter and no gravy.. This was almost 25 years ago and I'm still appalled at the lack of roast potatoes, gravy, yorkshire puddings and horseradish!
