To think there is very little stock in Tesco

Has anybody else noticed the lack of stock in tesco and out of stock issues? Online shopping is so frustrating as there are no substitution offered which defeats the purpose of online shopping when you have to go to another store to get items? 27/29/of my usual items ate out of stock today

I have just mentioned to show that Wilkinson’s seemed empty today as did Lidl. Big gaps on the shelves.

I was given a voucher for Wilko and have been in a good few times in recent months looking for something to spend it on and expecting a stock change and it has seemed empty every time I’ve been in.

I had a Tesco delivery saver account but was ending up having to do a top-up shop due to not being able to get fairly simple stuff, despite my orders coming from a massive Extra store. And I noticed that often Tesco brand stuff/cheaper brand stuff was suddenly unavailable when there was a promotion on a branded item. Seems suspicious. I put in a customer complaint about the lack of product availability and was basically told 'tough'.

I didn't renew my delivery saver account.

socksortights · 05/11/2018 23:05

Maybe they are clearing space for Christmas stuff?

EustaciaPieface · 05/11/2018 23:06

Morrison’s in Glasgow had lots of empty shelves today about 5.30pm. I’ve never noticed this before, very strange.

Witchesbritches · 05/11/2018 23:08

Getting fed up of not being able to get slots, but I put it down to vans being diverted to their new ‘Same Day’ deliveries...

A couple of specials no longer available, but other than that haven’t noticed any shortages.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 05/11/2018 23:10

Yes! It's been lime it for the past 5/6 weeks with our online shop. They also substituted dog food for cat food today. Even the delivery man was Hmm

butterflysugarbaby · 05/11/2018 23:12

I blame that Brexit..

neveradullmoment99 · 05/11/2018 23:12

Yes me!!!
Not online but in store. Tbh, I have only noticed this from last year when we had that terrible snow in Scotland. Ever since, the stock has poor at times. I have very often gone and there is bread missing in the crates etc. I thought It was just me. Apparently not then.

MrsStrowman · 05/11/2018 23:13

My local Tesco is a huge one and no issues with stock, same with m and s food and Waitrose, all fine here. I've stopped using Aldi on a Friday after work they can't get the shelves restocked quickly enough, so if I go now it's early Saturday morning or Monday/Tuesday

neveradullmoment99 · 05/11/2018 23:13

I blame Brexit and it will get worse. I am quite concerned that choices will be diminished.

LovingLiving · 05/11/2018 23:14

I’ve noticed lack of stock in my local
Tesco for a couple of months now. Very odd.

Lyricallie · 05/11/2018 23:17

We have a big Tesco a half hour drive and a smaller one in our town. The big Tesco vegetable selection is so poor it’s strange as you would expect it to have more choice. I don’t even bother going there for veg stick to my little one.

Although haven’t noticed any shortages and we’re in the highlands so you would expect any issues to be highlighted so far north.

April2020mom · 05/11/2018 23:17

I make my own stock. Mainly veggie stock but if I have any meat eating friends round I buy chicken stock.

TurkeyBear · 05/11/2018 23:17

They're renaming and rebranding a lot of their own brand produce. Seems to be an ordering system/supplier issue as they dont have the new stock to backfill the old stock shelf spaces yet.

KevinTheCarrot · 05/11/2018 23:19

Our local Tesco is awful. Shelves are empty, huge parts of the fridges and freezers without any stock. They ran out of frozen veg for about two weeks. Plus they’ve definitely cut down their lines. What’s going on?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 05/11/2018 23:20

I have my suspicions, mostly to do with the supply chain. First off, a lot of suppliers are refusing to deliver on 90 day payment any more. Aldi and Lidl pay on time, so all a flour mill or a coffee roaster has to do is repackage their generic products. Second, it's incredibly hard to get HGV drivers at this time of year. Our local Tesco depot pays less than £11 pH; you can can get newbies for that, but they are very hard on the kit. Third, my curse is working. I worked for them once, and when I'd got my revenge on them for egregious cuntitude, I left them a ill wish.

TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife · 05/11/2018 23:21

Yep. Loads of empty shelves in the one I went to today, random stuff like dishwasher salt, sunflower oil and squash missing.
Replacement dates on the shelves were 13/14th November.

Staff member I spoke to said they were having loads of problems getting the stock delivered as staff were leaving the distribution centres, lack of drivers all not being replaced.

The supply of cheap labour from East Europe has massively dried up with Brexit in prospect, hence the lack of drivers and staff to get stock to the stores. This really is a taste of what is to come.

Clionba · 06/11/2018 07:38

How come Waitrose and M&S were well stocked, to the point of heaving? Don't they use cheap EU labour?

Petalflowers · 06/11/2018 07:41

Maybe online deliveries are getting more popular, hence fewer delivery slots.

I’ve not noticed any stick problems in our local Tesco.

Petalflowers · 06/11/2018 07:42

Also, at this time of year, some items are cleared off the shelf in readiness for a Christmas stock.

Nenic · 06/11/2018 07:48

It’s not brexit. They are clearing lines for stock. Happens all the time but I suppose that doesn’t suit remainers. Also, why can’t we have a discussion without blaming brexit for everything. Oh, and I never voted for brexit before I get the abuse

LovingLiving · 06/11/2018 07:48

I’ve never noticed it before though.
