To think there is very little stock in Tesco

Has anybody else noticed the lack of stock in tesco and out of stock issues? Online shopping is so frustrating as there are no substitution offered which defeats the purpose of online shopping when you have to go to another store to get items? 27/29/of my usual items ate out of stock today

My daughter works for Tesco & has had the benefit of having to listen to my moans.
She told me that the store my shopping comes from is short staffed and do not have many pickers for the online shopping.
They are also being punished because they over spent on overtime so that was stopped for a while.
She also said they have put restrictions on the online shopping, which is why I have not received items but when I have gone in store the shelf is packed with the very item they didn't deliver!
Although I was really chuffed when the Yankee candle car air freshener I ordered was substituted for a huge actual Yankee candle for the same price as the car one!

Not blaming brexit. Just saying that once we Br without a deal, which is now the most likely outcome, the shops will have many more empty shelves. Maybe it's good to get consumers used to a lack of food on shelves. Less of a shock come March.

swampytiggaa · 06/11/2018 08:05

Husband works for them. Massive amount of rebranding going on no overtime and not enough pickers for online stuff seems to be the main issues.

He works nights and claims the day staff are lazy gits who don’t fill the shelves properly which also doesn’t help...

Jackshouse · 06/11/2018 08:16

I have recently (july) started shopping at Aldi as I fed up with the crap or lack of substitutions on my online shop. I now have to nip into Morrisons for the few things they don’t sell (alpro soya growing up milk, soya yoghurts and randomly red lentils).

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 06/11/2018 08:17

It's empty all the time in our local Aldi, aisles are full of cages and roll pallets but there's no staff to put the goods out. Noticed a lack on f stock in Morrisons too.

MrTrebus · 06/11/2018 08:20

Never had a problem round here. Clearly a thread to prompt some scared brexit remainders!

abbsisspartacus · 06/11/2018 08:22

We don't import that much of our food to empty Tescos

Roystonv · 06/11/2018 08:33

A lot of the not available in Asda online is 're-packaging usually to reduce the portion size then it comes back in looking exactly the same, same price until you look at the weight. I know my small local Tesco is looking unloved and now has just a young lad as manager - I think more in name only as he doesn't seem to be able to manage as he would like.

LakieLady · 06/11/2018 08:33

We've been bemoaning this, but I had no idea that it was more than a local problem.

It started after they reorganised my local store. There are loads of things they just don't stock any more: the big tubs of Lurpak, Finest range lasagne, Dentyl mouthwash, economy crisps, and that's just off the top of my head.

Our other supermarkets are Waitrose and Aldi. We get basics from Aldi and go to Waitrose for other stuff. We've discovered that in many cases, Waitrose isn't actually more expensive. For example, their Essentials mature cheddar and bacon are every bit as good as (if not better than) Tesco Finest, their fish fingers are nicer and cheaper than Birds Eye (the only ones DP would eat) in Tesco and cheaper, Lurpak is the same price and their ready meal 3-for-£10 deals aren't actually that expensive when you're only shopping for 2. I do appreciate that, when shopping for a family and on a tight budget, it would work out more expensive though.

It has the added bonus of being near a Superdrug, so I end up poping in there for skincare and toiletries, again cheaper than Tesco.

Roystonv · 06/11/2018 08:34

Co-op seems all good though.

Nissemand · 06/11/2018 08:35

I keep getting 'this product has been removed from our range' messages.

Always own brand stuff.

And it's harder to find the value range stuff now they've renamed everything.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 06/11/2018 08:37

The Co-op owns a lot of farms and abattoirs, which helps.

Marmite27 · 06/11/2018 08:39

I like to do my shopping list on Asda’s app. There’s several things out of stock, but actually in the store when I visit - like red cabbage Hmm

It’s definitely the store where my online order would come from too as the driver has joked in the past I could walk!

siakcaci · 06/11/2018 08:40

In the run up to Christmas they always reduce stick and minimise the range to make way for the Christmas stuff.

LakieLady · 06/11/2018 08:41

M&S food hall was well stocked when I went there.

They do great reductions towards the end of the day.

DP gets the bus home from right outside M&S. If a bus isn't due for a while, he pops in and picks up bargains. We had their Bistro range fish & chips last week, £1 each. Last night he came home with 2 loaves of really nice bread, reduced to 50p each. And a packet of lemon & lime jaffa cakes, not reduced at all, but utterly delicious, which probably wiped out the saving on the bread.

user1981287 · 06/11/2018 08:42

I had an enormous order from Tesco last week since I'm trying out doing a big monthly online shop and just very small fresh top ups once a week. Didn't have any problems with items or substitutions.

I do think we will need to get used to more limited choice and hefty price increases due to brexit.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 06/11/2018 08:43

I have noticed this in ours...particularly the dairy aisle! Milk is often sold out and cream too
Just put it down to poor stock control/ordering at our branch, but it is interesting to hear it is not an isolated incident

I will agree with a PP though over the repackaging.

I occasionally do an online delivery and found lots of stuff marked as "unavailable" when you do the drop down menu selection, HOWEVER if you do a search for that item it will be in stock

so for instance if you are perusing the ready meals a lot of the mains for the tenner dinner deal will not be available, if you search for "meal deal" they are all there.
Same for chicken thighs/breasts ...not available in the meat section, but search and they miraculously appear. Weird!

Kazzyhoward · 06/11/2018 08:49

I'm noticing lack of stock in Morrisons and Asda too. Nearly every time I shop, I end up having to go to another store to pick up the things that the first was out of stock on. It's bad enough that they're thinning down the product ranges they stock, but then not having any of the reduced number of stock items is getting ridiculous. They're losing the plot, just like High Street chains. I'm starting to do my "big" shop more and more at Sainsbury as they still have a bigger product range and are far less likely to run out of things.

Blobbyweeble · 06/11/2018 08:53

Our local Waitrose seems to have the same problem, massive gaps on the shelves most of the time. Ocado has lots of stuff out of stock with no substitutions either.

Kazzyhoward · 06/11/2018 08:54

I blame Brexit and it will get worse. I am quite concerned that choices will be diminished.

ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

user1981287 · 06/11/2018 08:55

Why the confused faces kazzy? choices will be more limited and prices will increase

Namechanger20183110 · 06/11/2018 08:56

I went in on Saturday and they literally had NO frozen chips or fries Confused Zero bags.

smithsally884 · 06/11/2018 08:56

How is it Brexit when we haven't Brexited yet?

seventhgonickname · 06/11/2018 08:57

Nothing to do with credit when track routinely run out of potatoes, bread and milk. The lack of choice in some areas is baffling and this was happening in summer and carries on so not due to Christmas stocking.

MyBrexitIsIll · 06/11/2018 09:03

Well i have to say I’m wondering what is going on too.
I have noticed the reduction in choice at Morrison. The more expensive brands disappearing and onlynthe vlue ones stay8ng. I outbthat down to where I live and a reduction in buying power.

But it seems to be much wider than that....

Why would there a shortage of some food or a restriction in choices NOW? There is no weather issue. Nothing particular going on. And it seems across various supermarkets too. Clearly it’s not someth8ng that wouod be beneficial for them. So yes, what’s going on?

The one thing I can think about is that the supermarkets are getting ready for a No Deal and therefore are reducing their range of stock so they can have more of ‘essential’ products in store and less of the non essential items. More of one brand they can more easily source and less of the other that wouod Be harder to get.
I do hope I’m wrong.
