To be fed up about holiday weather

Off on our first (very expensive half term) family holiday to Spain in 3 years tomorrow. The forecast is a week of rain and I am fed up. Has anyone been to the Costa del Sol with children and have any advice on things to do please?

If you aren't going until three years tomorrow, I am not sure how they can predict the weather so far ahead? Confused

Oh that’s rotten! Hopefully it will be on and off rain. Maybe there’ll be a kids club at the hotel?

Aww that’s a shame but you can’t really guarantee nice weather this time of year in Spain.

Late October is not ideal for the Spanish Med, it gets wetter, cool and dull then. Fingers crossed it clears up during the week.

It’s certainly cooler than it has been, but I’m pretty sure it won’t rain all day every day like it sometimes does here. Whereabouts in the Costa del Sol? It’s quite big!

That sucks but to echo pps, late October isn't very reliable weather for the Costa del Sol. What resort are you staying in, it will be easier to suggest ideas? Do you have a car?

Several years ago we went to Spain in the October half term and it rained the whole time. Kids were miserable and we had to find somewhere that sold warmer clothes. We vowed then never to go to Spain again during that half term because the weather is so unpredictable. I hope it's not as bad for you as the forecasts predict and that you find some activities to do.

I feel your pain. I have just looked at the weather and it looks like you will need umbrellas, jumpers and coats next week.

Sadly, the weather at this time of year can be pretty unreliable in the Med. You may be lucky that your resort has its own microclimate and the weather may be better than you expect.

Not sure why you are expecting great weather in October/November but it probably won't be as bad as you expect!

Ok feeling worse about it now! This week has been 23/24 degrees and that's the forecast for week after too so I think we are unlucky. Staying near Benalmadena.

Friends have just got back from Majorca where they had one nice day in seven. Apartment was not designed for wet weather so they spent the week cold and slipping over on the floors. The hotel was closing so everyone was on wind down.

I have been to that area in poor weather. We did day trips eg to the rock and thankfully I took some games. It wasn't much fun. Sorry

You just can't go to Spain this time of year and expect the weather to be nice, it's not guaranteed. My dad lives in Spain, says it's been lovely up to now but due to get a lot colder. Fingers crossed for you OP, hope the sunshine holds out.

I feel your pain. We are going to Marrakesh for half term. Yesterday was 29 degrees and the 4 days we are going the weather is 16,18,19 19 degrees. I want to cry.

The reports might be wrong. I'm in Greece and was expecting mixed weather from reports but it's been 26' all week and glorious sun.

Hope it's the same for you.

Just came back from Majorca on Tuesday. Was forecast rain all week but turned out to be baking the entire time. Hope the weather stays nice for you :)

The village of Mijas is worth a visit, as is Benalmadena Pueblo. I'd also suggest a day in Malaga which is lovely and you could go to the Pompidou centre. The centre of Marbella is also very nice (Puerta Banus not so much, unless you're a fan of conspicuous consumption). How old are your kids?

fermerswife · 26/10/2018 15:46

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I didn't expect sun, I don't really care if it's cooler and cloudy it's the rain that's the killer. Kids are 6 and almost 3.

There's a sea life centre in Benalmadena.
Tivoli world is open at the weekends.
I think there's a glass bottomed boat ride (May be weather dependent)

There is Selwo Marina in Benelmadena (dolphins, sea lions etc) and Selwo zoo further down the coast near Estepona. I second a visit to Gibraltar and a taxi tour around the rock with young children.

Oh you poor thing !! We have had mixed weather in Spain for this time of year. Sometimes lovely ( pool weather ) , sometimes freezing !!

Often have noticed the forecasts can be very off and change the day prior.

Regardless , you will be on holiday! There is lots to do in the area. Staying somewhere new, eating out, having treats - all part of the fun.

Hope you enjoy it!

Just looked it up and it looks ok? Not particularly warm but not pouring down either.
