This is what has happened to my sisters bil and the poor bloke doesn't even know yet! There was nothing wrong with the dog except he was 10 and had a poorly paw - his bitch of a girlfriend couldn't be bothered looking after it anymore.

There had to be more wrong with it than that surely?

I don't think any vet worth his salt would have put a healthy dog to sleep.

WelshBoris · 16/06/2007 18:12

This is probably the most bizarre thread title ever

lulumama · 16/06/2007 18:15

agree that no vet would put a healthy dog down.....there must be more to it

RedLorryYellowLorry · 16/06/2007 18:17

No vet would do that without a reason.

fireflyfairy2 · 16/06/2007 18:18

Yeah, what's him being a paraplegic got to do with anything?

winniepoo · 16/06/2007 18:18

I promise that as far I as know that is the story. My sister has had her mil to stay and she told her, everyone is so upset. The girl didn't tell anyone what she was doing so no other alternative arrangements could be made and noone has told my sisters bil who is in hospital and likely to be there a long time. He loved the dog apparently since his accident friends have one by one disappeared and the dog was his only constant in life. The girlfriend is an ex who reappeared a few years ago. I don't even know her but hate her so much. If there was a genuine reason to destroy the dog then surely she would of discussed it with her boyfriend.

I disagree about the vets and healthy dogs I know of 2 other cases where dogs were put down for no good reason. Nothing to do with this though.

fireflyfairy2 · 16/06/2007 18:20

Why do you hate someone you don't even know? What a waste of energy.

But honestly, either your sister or your mil has got mixed up, a vet is not allowed to put a healthy dog to sleep.

fireflyfairy2 · 16/06/2007 18:21

NO winnie, they're not allowed.

My cousin is a vet & I know some posters on here have partners who are vets.

j20baby · 16/06/2007 18:22

actually vets do put healthy dogs down if the owner can't cope and fruitless efforts to rehome have been made, but if the dog was loved i can't understand why the girlfriend would do it, in fact if i was away, and one of my pets was put to sleep, i'd be livid!

lulumama · 16/06/2007 18:23

maybe there was something really drastically wrong with his paw /leg

and agree with ff2...why hate someone you don't know

you only have one side of the story.and you don;t know if it is true

RedLorryYellowLorry · 16/06/2007 18:23

I think someone is either confused or gullible here.

JodieG1 · 16/06/2007 18:23

I'm pretty sure some vets would, just as people in any profession bend the rules on occasion.

Out of order having the dog put down.

milkchocolateStarryStarryNight · 16/06/2007 18:23

erm. you sure she took it to a vet?

Somebody I know took their cat to a shooting ring and shot it. (cat was given sleeping pills first, so the poor animal was sound asleep)

tiredemma · 16/06/2007 18:24

I thought that this was a joke. Oddest thread title ever. I initially read it wrong and thought that the dog was paraplegic.

winniepoo · 16/06/2007 18:25

I thought healthy dogs were destroyed routinely when no homes could be found for them - i'm sure I saw it on a documentary. According to my sister definately no mistake. I feel very emotional about this because I love animals and would know how I would feel if someone put one of mine down without telling me. I think it makes it worse that the owner is exceptionally close to his dog due to his situation.

Glad you shower of nasty girls think it's ok to bully and take the piss. I was actually quite upset about this I guess mn was the wrong place to come for support.

EllieK · 16/06/2007 18:39

sorry winniepoo but you said it yourself, it is none of your business. you have no way of knowing if you have the full story, MIL may well hate the girlfriend and be trying to get your sis to hate her too

RedLorryYellowLorry · 16/06/2007 18:40

If it's a true story I am sure everyone will say it's terrible however the old cynic in me doesn't think you've got the story straight.

tiredemma · 16/06/2007 18:41

do you think that she may have taken it to a dogs home to be re-housed, but to be a bitch has just said that she had the dog put down?

Very bad of the vet to put a healthy dog down if that is the case

I wasn't being nasty either, I truly & genuinely know that no vet at my cousins practice would put a healthy dog to sleep.. & to do it without the owners permission is asking for a negligence case.
