This is what has happened to my sisters bil and the poor bloke doesn't even know yet! There was nothing wrong with the dog except he was 10 and had a poorly paw - his bitch of a girlfriend couldn't be bothered looking after it anymore.

OP posts:

Well, for what its worth, if you cant come here and moan, or vent if you have had a shock, or get a different perspective, where then? No need to take the piss, and make multiple postings ridiculing OP....

IF she had the dog put down, maybe the dog had other illnesses you dont know about, hip problems, or cancer, etc. Maybe it was not the PAW that caused the dog to be put down but something else entirely.

See if you can talk to the girlfriend direct and get the story behind it.

20,000 healthy greyhounds are euthanased every year as well as various other breeds of unwanted dog, so to say vets are 'not allowed' to destroy in these circs is a wildly sweeping statement - your cousin may have higher standards than other vets.

Why would a vet put down a dog if the owner did not give consent? Surely that leaves room to get sued. Does she live with this guy? Maybe she can't look after the dog. If the owner will be in hospital for a very long time and she works full time and the dog does not get the care it needs, then maybe its justified? It sounds to me like you got the tail end of the story and should ask before you slag her off further.

Monkeytrousers · 17/06/2007 22:21

Isn't this just a case of his family not liking her?

They sound like a lovely lot

tinatantrum · 17/06/2007 22:24

I feel sorry that the man has not been told, what ever reason the dog was destroyed surely since as it's his he should be included in the decision.

shimmy · 17/06/2007 22:26

Vets do put completely healthy animals down. I know a family who were emigrating and had both their elderly but healthy dogs put down because they would have been difficult to rehome.
And if the boyfriend was not able to care for the dog as he was in hospital the girlfriend could quite easily have walked in to a vets and had this done. You don't have to show proof of ownership.

TheWobblyGoddess · 17/06/2007 22:31

It wouldn't be difficult to identify these people in RL would it?
I mean, it's quite a specific scenario!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/06/2007 22:34

Sounds like a bad case of chinese whispers to me.

Can we please not judge people, maybe take things that people post as genuine and be nice?

Sometimes it would jsut be nice to read a thread like this and see that mners can just say something nice.

A lot of people only have MN as a support network, quick snappy comments can hurt very much

PavlovtheCat · 17/06/2007 22:39

Maybe we should have a 'be nice to everyone' day where we are only allowed to leave positive constructive thoughts on threads

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/06/2007 22:43

What, we should all go and post on babyworld you mean? [puzzled]

TheWobblyGoddess · 17/06/2007 22:45

I can't see where anyone has been unpleasant.

Except perhaps the "Glad you shower of nasty girls think it's ok to bully and take the piss" comment from the OP.

PavlovtheCat · 17/06/2007 22:50

Oh dear. one of those situations where I spoke when I should not have. I dont know what babyworld is, sorry VVV, but I am guessing its meant to be a dig! Oops. Here comes the onslaught. I shall bow out with grace and let you all fight it out. I shall say no more on the matter apart from...

FWIW Winnie - I am sorry you feel so upset. It obviously has had an impact on you or else you would not be posting . I would be upset if something like that happened behind my back too.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/06/2007 22:53

PTC - im just trying to lighten things a bit not have a dig

TheWobblyGoddess · 17/06/2007 22:54

Nobody is fighting.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/06/2007 22:55

(Babyworld is a parenting site where it is heavily moderated, and words end up with in the middle of it - such as t* or P** )

ratclare · 18/06/2007 09:14

a vet will put a healthy animal to sleep if that is what the owner requests ,obviouslry most would do thier utmost to dissuade the owner

alycat · 18/06/2007 13:46

'can't see where anyone has been unpleasant' but, twg, actually, there are some similarly named threads started in aibu - surely that is taking the piss?

Even if it is Chinese whispers/urban myth the op was clearly upset by the incident (real or not).
