I’m 34+2 and gained approx 1.5 stone. First baby. Midwife doesn’t really comment on weight so no idea if this is normal?!

What did you all gain?

That sounds normal to me...I think anything between 1.5 and 2 stone is 'normal'

I only gained 9kilos but spent the first half of my pregnancy vomiting many times a day and had to be sent for growth scans (baby was fine, I was just skinny from the not keeping anything down)

2.5 stone each time. Both very healthy pregnancies with no real weight left-over once the first 6 weeks had passed.

I ran 4/5 times weekly all the way through both pregnancies til around 8 months, though, so I think that helped keep the weight gain lower, and helped burn it off afterwards.

3.5 stone with the first, 11lb with my second.

I started both pregnancies obese though. I was back to pre pregnancy weight in 3 weeks and 1 week respectively.

My first baby was enormous and I had polyhydramnios and extremely bad water retention so genuinely a lot of weight was fluid, hence the fast loss.

Second time I just didn’t gain much but ate loads, I suspect being so fat meant I had reserves. Another big baby anyway.

If your baby is growing well you don’t need to worry. Most weight goes on in the last trimester too.

Well i gained at least four stone. Fatty. It’s taken me another nine months to lose it.

I gained around 3 stone, the last stone went on in the last few weeks! Lost 1.5 stone within a week and have spent 5 months now trying to get even a pound to budge (sleep deprivation and sugar addiction not helping) Angry I was huuuuge at the end but it was all belly and boobs and a hell of a lot of water retention!
Everyone is different don't worry about it!

One and a half stone. Lost it in five days post delivery, back to 8 stone 5lbs.
Thirty years later, I can only dream of being that slim again - I’m now a chunky 10 stone!

Nothing in my first pregnancy (sick till week 20) and lost 3 stones in my second (sick all the way through). I wouldn't recommend it!

Around 2 stone. I stayed 1/2 a stone heavier than pre-preg for a few months after the baby was born then it gradually went and by around a year after preg, I was the same as before.

39lb. When I gave birth 30lb dropped straight off in a couple of weeks without even trying!

About 3 stone. I had severe back pain and had to go on maternity leave early , I also went two weeks over due. These factors didn't help when it came to the comfort eating! I gained less in previous pregnancies where I was able to be active throughout.

No idea exactly how much, but I ballooned. 🎈

DD is 8 (a very tall 8), and our combined weight now is still (only just) less than my weight the day before I went to be induced. 🐳

35+2 here, gained 2st 11lb so far, HOWEVER, have lost 11lb of it again as i was suffering from undiagnosed pre-eclampsia and blew up like a balloon.
I have had this debate with a few others and it rarely ends up being a friendly debate as people get very matter of fact over "statistics"
My view on it is - every woman is different, were different body shapes, we carry different, some are very athletic and carry little extra fat, others gain it by staring at a cream cake.
Some have more active jobs than others too, all of which does have an impact on the weight we gain!
Ultimately, as long as youre healthy.and your baby is healthy and you take reasonable measures to ensure a healthy diet during your pregnancy then i wouldnt worry too much.
1.5st is a nice amount, youll pretty much lose that once baba is born, when you take baby, placenta, water, swelling etc into consideration.
My advice - enjoy it x

1.5 stone is a good amount to gain. I was 2.5 with pregnancy 1 and closer to 4 with pregnancy 2 Blush. However I'm 4 months post partum and it's almost all gone. Everyone's bodies are different.

About 3 stone. I was a bit worried about it but I then lost 4 stone breastfeeding and generally feel OK about my body at the moment (I was expecting to hate how I looked).

Hope the last few weeks go ok.

3.5 stone and I am short! I did have polyhydramios (I think that's what it's called, excess waters basically) and I lost a stone after delivery and a further 10 pounds in 5 days. I also was nauseous for a lot of the pregnancy and could only tolerate beige food like chips, mash and spaghetti which wasn't ideal!

I've gained 3.5 stone so far and still have a few weeks to go. Been diagnosed with GD which apparently doesn't help, I've seen more rapid weight gain in the last 6-8 weeks, but I'm currently managing that with diet. I was very strict with calories, carbs and exercise before (PCOS so stuck to 1250 a day plus three gym sessions a week) , so when I found out I was pregnant I was still eating healthy meals but larger portions, I was eating carbs, which I didn't do much before and sweet things which are usually a once in a blue moon treat. Midwife isn't concerned BMI now is 25.6 so only slightly over weight if I wasn't pregnant. I am also very puffy and full of fluid so I'm hoping some of it comes off straight after birth. Fingers crossed, either way I'll need to be hitting the gym again.

19kg, both times. Back to pre-pregnancy weight after nine months, both times.

I gained 13 lbs with DD and 8 lbs with DS. I never understood why some people put on several stone!

Report
TeaAndToastx2 · 11/10/2018 09:51

I gained 2 stone but 18lb of that was lost immediately 2 days following the birth. I was interested to see the difference post-birth hence weighing that early, not an obsession with weight loss! I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 10 weeks without trying though so I think a lot of it is luck and genetics. Not sure I will be so lucky this pregnancy if the first trimester is anything to go by!!

12 lb first pregnancy, 13 lb second. Weigh more now than I did at 9 months pregnant Blush

Oh and that 2stone gain was all from 16 weeks onwards, I really don’t think I ate anymore either during pregnancy. I was quite careful but still 2stone heavier

2.5 stone so far and I'm 37+4, most of it went on the first four months. I'm very swollen and full of fluid too which makes it worse.

I never understood why some people put on several stone!

Because I’ve eaten so much Grin

I have no idea how much weight I’ve gained except for the fact that I look and feel grotesque! How do you all know- do you weigh yourselves during pregnancy or did your midwives?
