To ask how much weight you gained in pregnancy

I’m 34+2 and gained approx 1.5 stone. First baby. Midwife doesn’t really comment on weight so no idea if this is normal?!

What did you all gain?

OP posts:
ReverseGiraffe · 11/10/2018 09:56

I lost a stone in my second pregnancy. No idea how.

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/10/2018 09:58

Went from just under 8st to nearly 12. Cheese salad rolls were the only thing that staved off the nausea, and "morning sickness" is a real misnomer. Lost it all fairly painlessly but post DC settled at 8st 3lb.

Babyshark2018 · 11/10/2018 09:58

I stopped weighing myself by about week 37 but it was at least 3 stone! Lost most of it now though. Dropped 7lbs straight away for the actual baby then the rest was mostly water.

Breastfeeding helps, you get to eat whatever you like and the weight still comes off Smile

Don’t worry OP, that weight gain is absolutely fine.

Babyshark2018 · 11/10/2018 10:00

Oh and babdoc 10 stone is really not chunky. I would love to be 10 stone!

MatildaTheCat · 11/10/2018 10:01

About 1.5 stone, I actually came home from hospital at my pre pregnancy weight ( had lost a lot during first 20weeks though).

BUT, I gained another stubborn 10 pounds during the next few months whilst chomping on biscuits while breastfeeding. Didn’t make that mistake second time around.

IKeepFlouncing · 11/10/2018 10:05

6.5 stone the first time. I was eating for two 😁

I carried a lot of water but I was very, very unhealthy weight pre pregnancy 6.5stone so I almost ate my own body weight (rest was water retention)

Lost it quick to a healthy weight.

Think age & metabolism buggered as recently look more pregnant now that I did when had my last. I never glowed and always had pregnancy envy of others as I was Webble womble bloated puffer fish

countrybunny · 11/10/2018 10:06

4 stone but I got ore eclampsia and it was all water. I was a walking water balloon and it all went a few weeks after birth

Lauren83 · 11/10/2018 10:07

Not far off 3 stone but wasn't helped by being on steroids the whole way through, lost 2.5 stone since I had him in Jan

OneShawn · 11/10/2018 10:09

I’m pregnant with my first and I’ve put on 3 stone but i was underweight pre-pregnancy.

user1471459936 · 11/10/2018 10:13

Almost six stone. Lost it all again though.

1moreRep · 11/10/2018 10:14

4 stone and it came off within a month both times

Mari50 · 11/10/2018 10:14

I was 8 stone 4 when I fell pregnant, I stopped looking at the scales at my midwife appts when I got to 11 stone which was about 35 weeks, I gave birth at 42+4 so god knows what I weighed then.
I had the fattest feet.
Lost most of it within 6 months with no effort.

IKeepFlouncing · 11/10/2018 10:14

Its lovely reading this thread. I was lucky that I missed all the mag articles of celebs obsession of looking glam & gaining no weight followed by had baby 5mins ago and already back in pre pregnancy clothes. I only had to endure ex MIL telling me she was never that fat etc when she was pregnant Hmm

Hengine · 11/10/2018 10:20

I’ve put on 11kg so far and I’m 34 weeks, i don’t feel much bigger apart from the bump though!

RosaBaby2 · 11/10/2018 10:24

I did slimming world throughout pregnancy and was 2lb lighter after having him than I was before. First pregnancy I put on a lot of weight, not sure how much but probably 3st+.

AGirlinLondon · 11/10/2018 10:25

Haha @Ikeepflouncing my MIL says ‘you’ll get so massive and you never lose it again you know’ EVERY time she sees me!

Wonkypalmtree · 11/10/2018 10:27

My SIL gained four stone, that’s quite excessive and she admits that she binged a lot. I gained about 1.5 stone, I think that’s normal

TheDowagerCuntess · 11/10/2018 10:27

As I say, I ballooned.

But thanks to breastfeeding, I deflated straight afterwards, so all the MIL words of doom are nonsense.

polkadotpixie · 11/10/2018 10:37

I gained 2st 1lb. I'm now 5 weeks post partum and have lost 1st 4lbs so still have 11lbs to go to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight

I actually want to lose another 10lbs on top of that though so still a long way to go 😩

I had a c section so I'm hoping once I'm allowed to be more active that it'll come off quicker!

IKeepFlouncing · 11/10/2018 10:46

AGirlinLondon keep eye out and have excuses ready to leave if they reach for photo album, only saving grace was I was so bloated and big ex MIL didn’t notice my eyes keep rolling.

I believe my extra padding protected baby when I took nasty fall at about 36weeks

One of my nieces has that pregnancy glow, lost weight (not unhealthy weight loss) and just looks really well, you would never know she been in tears every day with SPD.

kate1956 · 11/10/2018 10:56

i gained 6 stone each time (arghhhh!) and I have 4 kids - couldn't stop eating and was never full - lost it all each time within six months

Roomba · 11/10/2018 11:01

First pregnancy - 2.5 stones, almost a stone of which I gained during the last couple of weeks (fluid retention due to pre eclampsia). Baby was 5lb exactly. Was weighed at booking appointment and only weighed later on because I complained I'd put a stone on in a fortnight and knew something was wrong.

Second pregnancy - gained 10lbs (baby was 6lb 6oz). Baby was healthy so no one was particularly concerned about weight, in fact I don't recall them weighing me at all at any point.

MirandaWest · 11/10/2018 11:02

Somewhere around 5 stone in both pregnancies

Roomba · 11/10/2018 11:11

It's different for everyone really and weight gain doesn't correlate to the weight of the baby or how easy it is to lose the weight afterwards.

One friend put only out on a stone and had an 11lb baby. She also struggled to lose the few pounds left afterwards despite dieting and exercising like mad (she really didn't need to lose anything anyway, imo). Another friend went from just over 7 stone to almost 13 stone, had a 6lb baby and lost all of the weight very quickly without dieting as such.

SpringerLink · 11/10/2018 11:18

Nothing at all. I had really bad pregnancy sickness throughout all 3 pregnancies. This is not healthy. I think that 2-3st is considered to be a healthy weight gain.
