Just the above really - looking for inspiration

Something from smiggle?
The scratch off drawing and stencil books from there have gone down well if she’s already got a load of stationery.

Hair accessories, bag or purse or jewellery or nail varnish from Claire’s

Something for her room-fairy lights or lamp or sequin cushion

Clothes

Drawing or painting or craft stuff

A board game

Binoculars are surprisingly popular!

SoozC · 10/10/2018 19:37

I recently bought a present for a ten-year-old, so a little older, but I got her a unicorn bracelet making kit from not on the high street and she absolutely loved it. I think unicorns are "in" right now? A few girls have unicorn-themed bags in my year 3 class.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/10/2018 19:38

Lego?

Grobagsforever · 10/10/2018 19:39

Books. Not beauty tat or plastic pls!!

Squigglypig · 10/10/2018 19:43

Watching as my DD will be 8 soon. I'm going to get her a kid's tablet from amazon I think as she could do with one for school (we have a very old tablet but it doesn't work very well any more). I'm also taking her to Matilda so that's probably enough from us but would be useful to have some ideas for relatives for smaller things. We have asked her but she wants pet fish and that's not happening!

littlepeas · 10/10/2018 19:47

Lush bath bombs.

AnotherCareerThread · 10/10/2018 19:48

Anything with a bloody unicorn on it.

Janek · 10/10/2018 19:48

Lottie dolls are very popular in our house and have been for many years. Also playmobil.

Queenofmyownheart · 10/10/2018 19:51

I have an 8 year old girl and tbh they widely vary but things I've discovered are pretty much unanimously "in" are unicorns, LOL dolls, smiggle (bloody expensive stationary for anyone not in the know) slime (shudder), squishies and failing all of that Claire's accessories vouchers 😂

FuckThat · 10/10/2018 19:53

My 8 year old DD is obsessed with slime! Confused Aqua beads are popular too

Queenofmyownheart · 10/10/2018 19:53

@Squigglypig can highly recommend the amazon fire tablets, bought both my daughters one for Christmas last year and they adore them! And fabulous for parental controls, you can programme them to shut down at a certain time etc

JeSuisPrest · 10/10/2018 19:53

My 8yo DD tells me unicorns are out but llamas, flamingos and sloths are in Confused. She'd love anything from Hobby Craft, particularly a slime making kit or a selection of cheap bits from Tiger - stationery especially.

She's still into dolls big time and really wants another Our Generation doll from Smyths and associated outfits.

Squigglypig · 10/10/2018 20:01

Thanks @queenofmyownheart - did you get the fire 7 or 8?

SEsofty · 10/10/2018 20:11

Lego or anything to do with Harry Potter

SpankTheMonkey · 10/10/2018 20:14

Thank u so much, so many great ideas here

My dd is goin g to be 8 in December. We've bought her a mini Snes as she's obsessed with gaming. She also likes Meccano, Lego and anime. She's asked for a Surf Board for Christmas Hmm

5BlueHydrangea · 10/10/2018 20:17

My dd is 8 and obsessed with slime! She has bought lots but loves making it too. Maybe a making slime kit? PVA glue, shaving foam, possibly Borax, food colouring. There are a lot of 'recipes' out there..

anniehm · 10/10/2018 20:18

Depends on their interests but a chemistry set, telescopes or similar is a good alternative to girly things.

Queenofmyownheart · 10/10/2018 20:25

@Squigglypig I went for the 7, it was a toss up between the two but I decided on the 7 purely because I didn't think the price jump was worth it for the kids usage 😊

steff13 · 10/10/2018 20:30

My daughter is 8.

She likes:
Shopkins
Barbies
Lego
Arts/Crafts
Science Sets
Slime
Books
Stuffed Animals

Right now she's very into writing her own books, so things like paper, markers, etc., are always a hit.

AgnesBrownsCat · 10/10/2018 20:42

Depends on the child . My fail safe gift for that age is Hama beads .

AgnesBrownsCat · 10/10/2018 20:42

Or beanie boos

Corcra · 10/10/2018 20:51

Mine loves
Beanie boos. Anything art and craft. The top model stuff, where they have pages of blank ,for you to fill in, stuff.

Glumglowworm · 10/10/2018 20:57

I know lots of girls that age who are into baking.

Unicorns and mermaids still seem extremely popular

Squishies

Smiggle stationary

Hair bows

VenusClapTrap · 10/10/2018 21:08

My dd is 8 and is not remotely into unicorns or sparkly shit. It’s not universal. Her favourite birthday presents were books and stationery sets.

A pp suggested baking stuff - I think that’s a really good idea.
