To ask you to tell me how to tear a family apart?

By telling me what board game is the most irritating, rage inducing one you can think of?

My SIL and her boyfriend are the most competitive people I know, and we always play game night with them and it ends in rage (this is LIGHT HEARTED, yes this is all there is to it, no massive back story or counselling needed Grin)

For a gift we want to get them a really bloody frustrating game because we're going to swot up on it first to kick their arses. Yes it's petty and no we don't care Grin

So pleeeeaaaase tell me.. what games make your family go crazy?

Phase Ten.

Devastating in its simplicity.

SecretNutellaFix · 30/09/2018 23:52

Monopoly.

From what I've read apparently even the Queen has banned it from being played.

I've known a few upturned boards in my time.

User467 · 30/09/2018 23:53

Cranium!!

pumkinspicetime · 30/09/2018 23:54

Risk - now barred in our house

Monopoly, the only thing to reduce me to tears in front of MIL.

I'm really not good at board games.

6SpringCats · 01/10/2018 00:03

Risk or diplomacy and practice. Or i'll lend you my dh - he never loses

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 01/10/2018 00:04

I've just remembered Stirling Moss Rally (I think it was called that). Like snakes & ladders, but the ridiculously complicated rules laid the foundations for internecine rows.

I just liked the bit when you could move your car forward and make 'brrrm brrrm' noises as you did so.

WilmaJean · 01/10/2018 00:10

Articulate - my dad was banned from playing it about 20 years ago (still banned Grin) because he would get so insulting when people wouldn't get the word right. It's brilliant!

user1473878824 · 01/10/2018 00:17

OP I will have to explain when I don’t have a headache because even thinking about Fuck The Game gives me palpitations, but please can me and DP have a game night with you, you’re exactly our people. Also we can all put bets on who has a huge rage attack first 👍🏻

Myownname · 01/10/2018 00:17

Risk, definitely. You won’t realise it, until you physically want to kill someone over it!! (Lighthearted of course )

Cheating at trivial pursuit is easier than you think and quite satisfying. Learning all the answers is the hard way. Better options which will frustrate your opponents much more are; to just say they got the answer wrong whilst quickly sticking the card back in the pack; or to make up (have prepared) ridiculously obsecure and random questions to replace any you think they may know. These tactics should be used at strategic points in the game. Wedge moments are best to cause max frustration and confusion.

You will get away with for longer than you would think. Politeness and the need to not be a bad loser stop people challenging you. Chances are you will still loose to the smartie pants people. However you can content yourself with the looks of bewilderment and confusion every time you say they got it wrong. They will be just itching to question it but can’t. If you can adopt a mild smug and patronising look all the better.

icclemunchy · 01/10/2018 00:36

Codenames is the game of choice here when we have another Cople to play with. You can get a rude version too. It's even better after a few drinks!

Diplomacy has ended marriages.
Cards Against Humanity, skilfully played (!!) can sometimes upset people.

Human Hungry Hippos is hilarious. You have teams of two who each have a skateboard and 2 laundry baskets.

A billion soft play balls are released into the middle of the room. One of each pair lay on the skateboard and the other teammate holds their legs. The one on the skateboard holds an upside down laundry basket. When the whistle blows the person holding the legs pushes the skateboard person into the balls and they have two minutes to scoop as many balls under the basket as possible. After two minutes the whistle goes and the balls are put in the other basket and they swap places. This goes on until there is no balls in the middle. The team with most balls wins.

Ticket to ride is a great one if you want to hand a newbie's arse to them: you scrub up on the routes before you give it to them, and then build like mad, because you know that if you connect New York, LA, Seattle, Atlanta and Chicago, you have the game in the bag.

UatuTheWatcher · 01/10/2018 02:05

Sorry, remembered slightly wrong, it’s scoop and empty into the other basket each time.

Another one is giant blow up Pass The Pigs.

Wait, this is a thing? WHERE?

In our house Ludo invariably gets the arguments and accusations of cheating flowing. But it's mostly luck so you could end up being the losers.

Agree with a PP that if you want to cheat, Pictionary is a great one.

Or there's always Are you there Moriarty?. If you want an excuse to hit them round the head with a rolled up newspaper.
