To ask you to tell me how to tear a family apart?

By telling me what board game is the most irritating, rage inducing one you can think of?

My SIL and her boyfriend are the most competitive people I know, and we always play game night with them and it ends in rage (this is LIGHT HEARTED, yes this is all there is to it, no massive back story or counselling needed Grin)

For a gift we want to get them a really bloody frustrating game because we're going to swot up on it first to kick their arses. Yes it's petty and no we don't care Grin

So pleeeeaaaase tell me.. what games make your family go crazy?

Ohhh ye buncha bastards! We have muchhhh to think about... maybe even a hamper of board games? "Preloved" so there's an excuse for them to be opened? Grin (we aren't uptight)

Adult size hungry hippos had me chuckling - I imagined us all in bright green garden waste bags flopping about a paddling pool bobbing for apples for some reason Grin

The top answers seem to be Risk, Frustration and Scrabble. I'll look at the others but I'm afraid Scrabbles off the menu as they're cheating, dirty bastards! Grin

Not sure it's family friendly but I apparently almost started ww3 playing "passout" last night. If you have deliberately vague rules then loop-hole exploiting, fun sucking bitches like me will exploit them...

SirVixofVixHall · 30/09/2018 23:12

We used to play one called Election that caused a lot of fall outs.

SerenDippyEggs · 30/09/2018 23:14

@Peachydream my ban was enforced a similar way... My cousin took ages to sneeze back out the iron that mysteriously wedged itself in her nostril.

@PlonkyPlink and @user1473878824 I'm intriiigued.. tell me mooooreeee... [twiddles moustache]

OP posts:
SerenDippyEggs · 30/09/2018 23:15

@SirVixofVixHall hmmm.. is t actually anything to do with politics? We might actually fall out!

OP posts:
Sassielassie · 30/09/2018 23:15

Defo cards against humanity Grin if you dont fall out at least you will get to see who is the most sick and twisted one among you (in the funniest most light hearted way of course)

kateandme · 30/09/2018 23:16

cranium

SerenDippyEggs · 30/09/2018 23:16

@Sassielassie and the others who said cards against humanity, we tried this but dear SIL copped out on the first round! We hadn't even got started on the sick ones yet.

Halli Galli. Not really a board game, it’s got cards and a bell. I’ve come to blows many a time with my sister trying to get to that bell first.

seventhgonickname · 30/09/2018 23:19

Risk, definitely.I have refused to play since my early teens as I got so sick of the rows.My brother still gets to tempt me occasionally.
For a less evil game there is Sorry!

caoraich · 30/09/2018 23:21

Escape from Colditz is a fab and infuriating game.

Essentially it's one vs everyone else - one person is the German security officer and the rest are POWs trying to escape- you have to sort of work together but also need to get equipment etc and free POWs.

It's infuriating for both the security officer and the others who are made to work together but also choose which teams they want to free...

we LOVE it

Mum2OneTeen · 30/09/2018 23:23

UNO for the quick death

Monopoly for the excruciatingly slow death

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 30/09/2018 23:24

Bedlam or tell me quiz. There has been a tell me quiz argument going on for about 20 years in our family.

HappyPumpkin81 · 30/09/2018 23:26

Ingenious - it is a fiendishly tricky strategy game that relies on loosing to win. The rules are really tricky to understand and if you have played it a few times before you will be easily able to thrash a newbie while appearing sympathetic to their plight (and gleefully mocking their poor playing skills internally!). The most delightfully evil part of it is once you know the strategy you can manipulate the other person into loosing without them realising.

SeaToSki · 30/09/2018 23:28

DIPLOMACY. Sorry to yell but its the PERFECT game. Its like Risk but you have to go off and conflab about the moves you want to make with the other players and strike deals. Its DESIGNED to stab people in the back. You and DH can make a pre game pact and then you have to go all Enigma on them and dont spring it all at once (so they dont realise first round and give up) and reel them in. Remember in WW2 when they broke the Enigma code and couldnt let on by saving all the ships immediately etc.

Its rage inducing even if you dont have a pact, but with one - that doesnt look like one - it would be EPIC. 🤓 (evil grin)

Sillybilly1234 · 30/09/2018 23:28

Labyrinth.

Haha. So annoying. The fights over that game.

LateLatte · 30/09/2018 23:28

There is a new version of Monopoly!

Break the Rules
Make this wildly different Monopoly game a favourite go-to game for game nights and other fun get-togethers. Lean into those iconic (yet unspoken) Monopoly moments in which rules are bent, money is borrowed, and funny business is welcomed. The outlandish suggestions on the board, cards, and rules encourage players to express their inner cheater to own it all while they buy, sell, dream, and scheme. Fake a die roll, steal some bills from the bank, and even skip out on rent. Complete a cheat to get a reward, but fail a cheat and pay the consequences! No houses in this edition – only hotels – and a pretend handcuff unit may leave players 'chained' to the board.

SideEyeing · 30/09/2018 23:29

Articulate has ruined many family Christmases for us.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/09/2018 23:31

Scrabble, but you need to buy the book (and read and absorb it) that gives you all the two letter words that you ca use. Great for getting rid of all your tiles and making use of the odd gaps with high scoring boxes on.

storynanny · 30/09/2018 23:32

Try Guesstures, they will be so frustrated with their team if they don’t guess quick enough!

littlemisscomper · 30/09/2018 23:36

Risk is horrible. Once you're losing you're losing, and it's really, really slow.

notacooldad · 30/09/2018 23:38

Try the Really Nasty Horse Race.
The aim isn't necessarily to win the race but to get the most money by dirty tactics!

What is the best modern game for a couple to buy these days to pass the wintry nights away.
