Dark chocolate tastes like ass!

Frosty66611 · 17/09/2018 10:26

I love eating healthily, but when I feel the urge to indulge then dark chocolate just doesn’t ever cut it for me. A big dirty bar of Dairy Milk or Milky Bar will always win my heart and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Does anyone else hate dark chocolate as much as me?

Yes it sticks in my mouth and has a horrid aftertaste. I dislike all dark chocolate...apart from after 8s Grin

HilaryBriss · 17/09/2018 10:28

I loooove dark chocolate, much nicer than milk chocolate! I can't stand white choc though, vile sweet sickly stuff!

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 17/09/2018 10:29

Have you tried Dairy Milk dark yet?!

Alpacanorange · 17/09/2018 10:29

Never having tasted ass I could not possibly say.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/09/2018 10:29

75% cocoa ok. 90% tasted like ashes and I had to spit it out.
Agree with pp about After Eights, also mint or orange matchmakers, and this Elizabeth shaw chocolates

MaggieSimpsonsPacifier · 17/09/2018 10:30

I’ll take your word for that, OP!

Frosty66611 · 17/09/2018 10:30

@April I haven’t. I’ll need to check it out to see if it can convert me

@curlywurly I had some 90% Lindt recently and it just tasted like eating raw coffee beans to me. Utterly vile

The higher percentage the more bitter it will taste. I'd go 75% at the most but I really love dark chocolate. Having never licked a donkey I can't make a comparison. Grin

LanguidLobster · 17/09/2018 10:34

I have quite 'bitter' tastebuds so like it.

Have you tried the flavoured bars? E.g. with fruit/nuts?

MTBMummy · 17/09/2018 10:35

90% is quite a jump into dark chocolate, try the 70% stuff, but be warned, it's a gateway into the lush-ness of dark chocolate.

Cant stand milk or white chocolate myself

Frosty66611 · 17/09/2018 10:38

I did a tasting event at Hotel Chocolat last year and got to sample some of their 100% dark. It made me feel wired!
There were some white truffles and I was the only one digging into them and I could see the disapproving looks from the guy hosting it Grin

Bit unfair on donkeys, methinks... Confused

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/09/2018 10:39

I am torn between Dairy Milk fruit and nut and Milka Oreo chocolate.
Not a good week for me to be on this thread; I’m trying to do the blood sugar diet Grin

NotANotMan · 17/09/2018 10:43

I'm vegan so quite a connoseuir (sp) of dark chocolate.
The thinner the bar, the nicer it is. Big wodges of dark chocolate stick in your mouth.
Lindt 75% is lovely. 85% and above is bitter.
Lidl fin carre finest dark chocolate is lovely. Lidl cheap dark chocolate is rank and their expensive single origin dark chocolate is meh
Lidl dark chocolate with raspberries is lush, as is the one with orange
Tesco 75% is nice, Tesco dark chocolate with orange is sweet and nasty.
Green and blacks dark chocolate is all good, especially with raspberries or ginger

twattymctwatterson · 17/09/2018 10:43

If ass tastes like dark chocolate then I'm all about the ass

AbsentmindedWoman · 17/09/2018 10:44

I like the 70% kind. I think Godiva has the edge for me in terms of favourite brand. It's a completely different chocolate experience to eating milk chocolate. It's much more authentically chocolatey, so you feel satisfied after a small amount and the hankering goes away.

HOWEVER, there are times when I really want milk chocolate (basically mandatory with pms) and I indulge.

NotANotMan · 17/09/2018 10:44

Also keep it in the fridge

StayAChild · 17/09/2018 10:45

I've recently decided to stop trying it. It's awful and no way does it make me stop craving milk chocolate. I get rid of the dark chocolate ones first in a box of chocolates (note I don't give them away, I just eat them first so I can take the taste away with lovely milk and white chocolate ones) Grin

DH on the other hand can make a small bar of dark chocolate last all week, with a couple of squares a night. No fear of having to share it with me. Chocolate

BobLemon · 17/09/2018 10:47

YANBU

theycallmebabydriver · 17/09/2018 10:55

I'm totally with you on this OP, dark chocolate is just a disappointing reminder that you could be eating something nice instead.

LanguidLobster · 17/09/2018 10:57

Actually my favourite ever was green and blacks sour cherry then they went and discontinued it, bastards

Karigan198 · 17/09/2018 10:59

Dark chocolate is disgusting in anything but brownies which rather defeats the point 😂😂😂

mavismcruet · 17/09/2018 11:00

That’s a very tasty ass you have been nibbling on OP Grin

Starlings27 · 17/09/2018 11:03

I love Lindt dark chocolate best. Not keen on milk chocolate unless it’s onsomething like a Crunchie (and even then I’d love a dark Crunchie) and white chocolate is disgusting. It shouldn’t even be allowed to be called chocolate!
