Dark chocolate tastes like ass!

I love eating healthily, but when I feel the urge to indulge then dark chocolate just doesn’t ever cut it for me. A big dirty bar of Dairy Milk or Milky Bar will always win my heart and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Does anyone else hate dark chocolate as much as me?

Completely disagree! I don't think dairy milk tastes like chocolate. It's gross. All greasy because of the rubbish vegetable fats they pack it with. Vom.

Eponymous · 17/09/2018 11:04

90% Lindt for me.
It's the only one I can just have a couple of squares of and then not go back for more.

LittleMissMarker · 17/09/2018 11:05

I like dark chocolate but 90% cocoa is meant for cooking or maybe as a thin layer round a very sweet filling. It's not for eating in chunks!

noeffingidea · 17/09/2018 11:08

Dark chocolate is ok in after eights and frys cream bars, and Border ginger biscuits but on it's own it's rank. As for eating a couple of squares a day, what's the point? I'd rather eat one nice bar of chocolate once a week.

Medea13 · 17/09/2018 11:41

Dark chocolate is disgusting. Also, it's not really any healthier than other kinds of chocolate -- it may have less sugar but is has a biy more fat, usually. The only reason it might be healthier to have around os of you're trying to cut down... It's so nasty you wouldn't want to eat any!!!

happymummy12345 · 17/09/2018 11:42

Dark chocolate is the best. Give me a bar of bournville and a tea and I'm happy as could be.

Want some now, will get some when I'm out tomorrow..

AllyMcBeagle · 17/09/2018 12:04

I didn't use to like it, but I have found the key is to eat it differently.

I used to scoff milk chocolate quickly. This doesn't work well with dark. With dark chocolate I now just get a very small piece and hold it in my mouth pressed between the tongue and the roof of the mouth for several minutes until it dissolves. I think I heard Stephen Fry suggesting this and I enjoy eating it so much more this way. Those Montezuma's dark chocolate buttons are the perfect size for this, or a single square of a bar (I quite like Green and Black Maya Gold, or some of the Montezuma flavoured dark ones).

3stonedown · 17/09/2018 12:12

I'm a recent convert to dark chocolate (thanks low carb diet). I love an 85% now. I tried a 99% last week and it was awful though! And i'd still scoff a milky bar if I could

Toddlerteaplease · 17/09/2018 12:24

I like bournville, but that 80% cocoa stuff is grim and tasteless. Someone gave us a box of really posh painted chocolates from M&S yesterday. They are absolutely vile

bobstersmum · 17/09/2018 12:32

Totally agree dark chocolate isn't nice. It's bitter not sweet to me.

SerenDippitty · 17/09/2018 12:50

The higher the cocoa the better as far as I'm concerned.

NotACleverName · 17/09/2018 12:55

I’ve never eaten ass, but I love a bit of dark chocolate.

Spanglybangles · 17/09/2018 13:00

I can’t bear dark chocolate on its own. After eights and fry’s chocolate cream bars I do like and I loved the dark chocolate mars bars that were out some years ago. But I just can’t get into eating squares of dark choc. I don’t like green and blacks if any kind and not keen on hotel chocolat stuff either. I do love Lindt milk though and galaxy the way it used to be.

bsbabas · 17/09/2018 13:08

Anythings better than reduced calorie flavoured hot chocolate. Had some aldi dark chocolate that was lush the other day.

Grumpyrealist77 · 17/09/2018 13:14

Green and Blacks 85% is made with vanilla so has a lovely sweeter (not massively sweeter) taste!!
It’s nom!!

Grumpyrealist77 · 17/09/2018 13:15

AND doesn’t have any emulsifier!!!

Racecardriver · 17/09/2018 13:16

Dairy milk doesn't even taste like chocolate to me. I prefer milk or a light dark chocolate myself but to each their own I guess.

Racecardriver · 17/09/2018 13:19

@3stonedown try hotel chocolat 99%. Its amazing. The lindy one is disgusting though. Even my toddler wouldn't eat it and he has never refused chocolate before.

MysweetAudrina · 17/09/2018 13:21

With dark chocolate I now just get a very small piece and hold it in my mouth pressed between the tongue and the roof of the mouth for several minutes until it dissolves.

I am attempting this right now with a square of G&B organic 70% dark chocolate.

I am doing low carb, there is no way my taste buds would bother with dark chocolate otherwise but when it is your only source of sweetness it suddenly doesn't taste so bad.

Drummingisfun · 17/09/2018 13:35

Lindt dark swiss thins are good. I like darm chocolate generally but these dissolve so nicely in the mouth.
You can only get them in airports or online I think in the uk though.

greencatbluecat · 17/09/2018 13:45

YABU. Chocolate is like wine in that some of
It tastes good and some of it doesn't. Green and Blacks and Bounville are horrid. Lindt is OK. Sainsbury's Taste the Difference and (last time I tried) Tesco is good.

Frosty66611 · 17/09/2018 21:14

Tried a square of my DP’s dark chocolate and chilli Lindt tonight and did the sucking method some of you have mentioned. It did taste slightly less rancid when I just let it melt in my mouth slowly

Dear lord, this stuff is good.

chickenfeathers · 17/09/2018 21:34

Well I love all chocolate! Dark is not top of my list, but it goes down much better with a mahoosive glass of wine! GrinWine

Jux · 17/09/2018 23:44

90% is good for cooking. I love dark every year dh gives me a box of Bendick's Bittermints for my birthday (the other Bendick's mints are crap).

I used to choose Bourneville as my every day go to choco, but it's different now; I hate the thick bars, it was much better when they were thin and I can't imagine why they changed them.
