Get weighed on a Saturday morning ... would this be unreasonable?

OP posts:
Yikesisthatmeinthemirror · 15/09/2018 22:10

A box Shock Surely not on your own?!

Whatsthisbear · 15/09/2018 22:17

Yes ChristmasPlanner I misread, & x posted & I apologise to the poster of that . I didn't see the 1 stone before the 5 lbs because my eyes popped out of my head at ' a box of wine on a Saturday night'

The box of wine info isn't the original poster and I'm sorry for diverting the original topic which was about eating a takeaway every week after weigh in.

So, getting back on track......let's discuss that Grin

Whatsthisbear · 15/09/2018 22:21

OMG just to get back on track OP wants to know if a weekly takeaway is BU.
OP isnt drinking a box of wine

So sorry op Sad

Bluntness100 · 15/09/2018 22:29

Yeah, but cmon, a box of wine. That's the throwaway comment of the week 🤣🤣🤣

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 22:35

I wanna meet the woman that can drink a box of wine on a Saturday night, keep dancing and not puke on her shoes.........that’s class 😉

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 22:36

Funny thing tho. No matter how much I drink on Saturday night I’m still thirsty on Sunday morning 🧐

mum11970 · 15/09/2018 22:40

I have a takeaway once a week and still managed to lose over 4 stone in 6 months and have kept it off for over a year.

ShastaBeast · 15/09/2018 22:53

Aside from the box of wine issue...how many calories would that be?!

Are the people saying no way speaking from their own experience? I asked DH and he said no but he’s got no will power and can over eat significantly. He’s a big part of the reason I’ve gained weight - he can’t stop buying bad food and would order more food than we need given the chance. I calculated how much I could eat (700 calories which is a huge meal for me now) before ordering and gave him the list. It was half the amount you’d get with a set meal for two and we shared with the kids. It’s fine if you are careful and plan well.

HolyFuckNuggets · 15/09/2018 23:59

A kebab as in naan/pitta stuffed with donor meat and lots of sauces? YABU but there are plenty of other healthier options which aren't too bad for your diet. Chow mein/beef in blackbean/kebab on skewers etc etc can all be a cheat meal without undoing all your good work.

And I say that as someone who LIVED on takeaways but has been losing steadily on SW.

MaryShelley1818 · 16/09/2018 00:05

Like quite a few other posters on here...I did 5:2 and had a takeaway once a week. Still lost 5st and have maintained now for over 2yrs despite having a baby in that time. Your body reacts really well to feast/famine eating as that’s how we would have originally ate (obviously not with takeaways but you get the general idea).
Enjoy your kebab :)

Is it necessary to eat takeaway once a week? I'm slim and not on a diet and I wouldn't do it

TheChineseChicken · 16/09/2018 08:45

I realise that sounded like I was being smug. What I meant was, it's not only when you're on a diet that you might eat a takeaway less frequently that that

CottonSock · 16/09/2018 08:47

If I'm good all the time, I slowly get rid of weight. Even one naughty day a week and I will maintain. I had a stone to lose so it's the more tricky bit.

MsHopey · 16/09/2018 08:49

I read this.
Say you eat 500 calories less every day in order to lose weight.
500 x 6 days = 3000. (Not counting the cheat meal day)
So you've saved 3000 calories so far that week in order to lose weight.
How many calories is your takeaway?

"Some examples of doner kebabs tested by LACORS contained 1,990 calories, 70 grams of fat and 16.5 grams of sodium, according to a January 2009 article on the Guardian website."
With a side and a naan bread, you'd have undone all your weeks work.

CottonSock · 16/09/2018 08:51

And I'm still gasping at the box of wine!

kmc1111 · 16/09/2018 08:59

Completely depends on your calorie deficit and what meal you’re planning.

If your weekly calorie deficit is in the 2000-3000 range, then one takeaway could very easily wipe out all your hard work.

Threads like this always make me wince, because so many people seem so unaware of how calories work. It doesn’t matter if it’s only one meal, it doesn’t matter if you’ve been perfect otherwise, it’s purely about the math. You can have treats, but you have to do the math and figure out how to fit them in.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 16/09/2018 09:01

IMO you having a takeaway once a week would be a really bad idea if you are trying to loose weight. The high calorie content would mean you’d have to cut back the rest of the week- a lot.
I don’t imagine many slim people eat a big takeaway that often and stay slim. Though I guess it depends how much and what takeaway you have. (Sushi takeaway would be fine! Pizza/curry/Chinese not so good!)

delilahbucket · 16/09/2018 09:01

I had takeaways while calorie counting. Not once a week, maybe every 3-4 weeks. I always chose carefully. Chicken tikka with a pitta and salad, if it was Chinese it would be something veggie with plain rice that had been in a deep fat fryer. Never pizza or fish and chips. More often my "cheat" days would be cooking something amazing on a Saturday night, but I like to cook.

pasturesgreen · 16/09/2018 09:10

Having a weekly kebab seems a bit much even when not dieting in my opinion

^This! Surely it stops being a treat and starts becoming a bad habit if you have it once a week?

CottonSock · 16/09/2018 09:18

I really suggest joining a slimming world from home group on Facebook. Loads of inspiration of fakeaways and lots of discussion of the best thing to choose on menu.

Eliza9917 · 16/09/2018 10:41

Chicken shish without chips would be ok. I think that's not too bad on slimming world.

gamerwidow · 16/09/2018 10:41

Is it necessary to eat takeaway once a week?
Well of course it’s not ‘necessary’ but most things which give you pleasure aren’t ‘necessary’.

Bossyboots88 · 16/09/2018 10:56

I'm doing mfp at the moment and have lost 1st so far. I have a kebab once a week but on the days I know I'm going to have one I will only have something really light for breakfast and lunch so that I don't go too far over.

TheChineseChicken · 16/09/2018 11:58

Well of course it’s not ‘necessary’ but most things which give you pleasure aren’t ‘necessary’.

It's not about whether it's necessary fullstop but if it needs to be done that often

Crunchymum · 16/09/2018 20:16

I'm trying for 1300 cals per day, I'm not eating any exercise calories (aprox 400 per day from 10k + steps) and I have a take away / treat meal once a week. Sometimes it's a "healthy" chicken shish or a Thai Curry with limited rice but yesterday we had a McDonald's. I had 2 hamburgers and small fries Blush

We don't always have a take away, but once a week I don't cook (So it can be a microwave meal, eating out or take away). If it becomes detrimental to weightloss then I'll knock it on the head.
