To have a takeaway once a week even though I am dieting

Get weighed on a Saturday morning ... would this be unreasonable?

OP posts:
Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 19:59

fat2018 to be fair when I’m trying to lose weight I literally dream about a big doner with extra chilli sauce😂 1 a week is really not a good idea but 1a month...............

imonaplane · 15/09/2018 20:03

I lost over 2 stone on Weight Watchers. I had a takeaway as a treat every weigh in evening. It kept me going.

SlimGin · 15/09/2018 20:03

Once a month if you've done well? Or what about choosing something less fatty eg chicken shish wrap most kebab places do falafels too.

ShastaBeast · 15/09/2018 20:04

I’ve just had one and still keeping to my calorie allowance because I only had 500 calories during the day plus an hour in the gym burning 300 plus calories. I kept to my calorie count roughly while on holiday despite ice cream, fish and chips, roast dinner and cream tea. Nipping to the gym helped balance it out too. I’ve lost ten pounds in two months.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 20:07

SlimGin a chicken shish wrap or falafel really is not the same as a big doner (I know you’re right and sensible!)

TacoLover · 15/09/2018 20:10

Tbh I wouldn't have a takeaway once a week normally because they're so unhealthy...

Branleuse · 15/09/2018 20:13

Could you make it fortnightly, or do once a week with a really nice ready meal

tabulahrasa · 15/09/2018 20:13

If the meat isn’t the fatty weird one, it’s basically a salad sandwich...

ShastaBeast · 15/09/2018 20:15

For info it was Indian, I had the same meal twice one week to get through the post holiday chaos in fact. And to put it into context, my ten pound loss was from a BMI within the healthy range, so it’s not because I had loads to lose and it fell off. BMI now 22 and aiming for nearer 21. It’s all about balance - make sure you make up for a higher calorie meal by cutting back or exercising to make up for it.

Running can be delicious!

BrightLightsAndSound · 15/09/2018 20:15

A takeaway once a week isn't a good habit to have anyway.
I'd say once a month is fine.

TheBigFatMermaid · 15/09/2018 20:16

I am doing Slimming world and am so good the rest of the week, but after weight in on Sat morning, I drink a box of wine on Saturday night and sod the Syns!

1 stone 5lbs in 12 weeks, so I am doing ok!

DannyWallace · 15/09/2018 20:19

It all depends.

I did it, but was always still quite careful about I ate (as in, had a big treat but was aware of portion sizes and stuff). I lost 2 stone and got to goal in 4 months (probably would have managed it faster if I didn't have those nights off!)
My friend did it and called it her night off cheat meal and ate what she wanted. She wondered why she wasn't losing weight. She was on weight watchers and worked out for her that she was eating at least three days worth of points in one meal.

Nesssie · 15/09/2018 20:20

Once a week is not a good idea in my opinion when you are trying to lose weight.

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/09/2018 20:36

Depends whether your diet is more about changing what you eat or reducing the quantity you eat. If the latter, no probs as long as you really listen to your stomach and stop as soon as you either no longer feel ravenously hungry or you are no longer relishing every single mouthful. If you have got used to eating less, it may be a surprise as to how little of the takeaway you need.

Whatsthisbear · 15/09/2018 21:02

Weight loss won't last for long if you have a takeaway once a week. That's a habit, not a treat. You are reducing calories all week then eating them all -and more- on the weekend. So yes yabu.
People who are slim don't have a takeaway every week. They have one maybe once in a blue moon or once a month at most.

  • I drink a box of wine on Saturday night and sod the Syns!

Confused

Errr Healthy weight loss goal is 2llbs a week so if it's taken 12 weeks to lose 2&1/2 weeks worth of weight...... you are going to be paying SW fees for ages. Not to mention there are 28 + units in a box of wine. Did you mean bottle? Shock

eurochick · 15/09/2018 21:19

I think your maths is a bit out there...

Bluntness100 · 15/09/2018 21:25

I think the poster got confused on the math there, worked it on five pounds,,🤣

Op, the simple fact is this is about the math.

It's Depending on your calorie deficit for the rest of the week v how much of that you use in your treat meal. If you use less than your total calorie deficit, you will lose weight, albeit more slowly. If you use more of it, or all of it, you will lose none. In fact possibly even gain.

So picking carefully and doing the math, is the answer here.

Plus,,,how long do you want to be on a diet for,,,,

Whatsthisbear · 15/09/2018 21:46

Apologies I read it as 5lbs in 12 weeks Confused I didn't see the stone when I copied and pasted - think I was distracted by the box of wine in one night! I just can't fathom how that is possible tbh

ChristmasPlanner · 15/09/2018 21:50

Whatsthisbear I don't think you read that correctly, 1 stone and 5lb in 12 weeks not 5lb in 12 weeks.

Whatsthisbear · 15/09/2018 21:50

The thank you eurochick and Bluntness100 for being kind despite my glaring mathematical error.....and it wasn't even OP that posted that info - sorry people I'm am prepared to receive Angry rants.and apologies to the poster I miscalculated Flowers

Bluntness100 · 15/09/2018 21:59

To be honest the box of wine in one night threw me too 🤣

gamerwidow · 15/09/2018 22:04

Yes I mean I like a drink but a box is 3 bottles of wine, bloody hell!

happymittens · 15/09/2018 22:07

A BOX of wine?! Isn't that 3 bottles? I would say you have a problem if you can get through that in one night 🤔

Ethylred · 15/09/2018 22:07

You know the answer: you will never lose weight if you give yourself excuses not to. And boy are you giving yourself excuses.

Bluntness100 · 15/09/2018 22:09

I thought a box of wine was three bottles too, some of them are four, as I recently had a big party and bought some boxes of wine and I looked and they were all three and four bottles,
