Neighbour hacked through the hedge ?

Mandybrighton · 15/09/2018 12:39

Hey, yes it’s a hedge thread 😮😬 I live in a terraced house we both social rent and there is a hedge between our homes.

In the 7 years I have been here we both just have cut our own sides and usually it’s been me to trim it’s height. This year I haven’t bothered and it’s growb taller but nothing too extreme.

Anyways last couple days I’ve noticed the next door neighbours has been really hacking into her side like right down to the brown branches / roots considering it’s a full green bushed hedge ... fair do.

Came out today and she’s now hacked a hole straight through the middle of the hedge so I can now see into her garden and she can see into mine. She hasn’t touched the height has continued to hack it to death on her side but I just don’t understand the massive hole in the middle

Before you say ask her ! She had a warning on her tenancy some 5years Ago when I moved in due to her becoming racially abusive so we don’t talk ...

Is this passive aggressive because I haven’t trimmed the height ?

You know the rules op..diagram needed. From your description its hard to tell if shes cut the hedge back to the end of her land or come across yours.

Iwant2breakfree · 15/09/2018 12:44

Just cover up the hole. Thats what i would do. Put a big pot plant infront of it

HoleyCoMoley · 15/09/2018 12:48

Whose hedge and boundary is it, you can buy plastic type false hedging on eBay, buy some and stick it in the hole.

glintandglide · 15/09/2018 12:50

I’ve done this Blush some people are just utterly crap at gardening. I have someone come in now to do it. My neighbour was fine about it- what can you do but be really?

MissLingoss · 15/09/2018 12:55

Was it overhanging her side of the boundary? If so, she's entitled to cut it back level with the boundary..

My neighbour has a hedge which massively overhangs my side of the fence. It really encroaches on my small garden and limits what I can do. If or when I cut it back to the fence line, there probably will be bare branches exposed, and we probably will be able to see into each other's gardens. But as it is, I can't use part of my garden.

HoleyCoMoley · 15/09/2018 14:38

Miss, we have this so I bought trellis panels with artificial hedging attached, put it in front of the fence so now you can't really see the bare branches.

Perhaps she is just really bad at hedge cutting and was trying to take the height off. I suspect she's started there as there is something blocking her teaching the hedge closer to the house.

MeloCocoBanan · 16/09/2018 13:27

Where's the hole?

It looks like she is dealing with the height. Maybe she'll continue it when weather allows?
At thus stage I'd wait and see how it proceeds.

minisoksmakehardwork · 16/09/2018 13:27

And tbh my hedge has a bit of that shape as there's a really thick branch in the middle. The electric trimmer wouldn't do it so I've got to find a saw to level it off.

Mandybrighton · 16/09/2018 13:31

Yeah maybe this is her way of dealing with the height I know it’s not the greatest photo but there is just this large chunk missing where she’s removed all the hedge

OP posts:
glintandglide · 16/09/2018 13:32

Looks like she was trying to reduce the height to its natural level. It looks fine

IJustLostTheGame · 16/09/2018 13:34

Put a giant mooning gnome decoration in the gap?

Bluntness100 · 16/09/2018 13:34

Looks like she's just shit at hedge trimming and was trying to tackle the height.

I think you're reading too much into it.

Onesmallstepforaman · 16/09/2018 13:37

It'll grow back by next summer by the look of it

MissLingoss · 16/09/2018 13:37

Perhaps that's just where she started, and she'll do the rest in future. Maybe there are things in flower on her side and she can't get to the rest until they die off.

What height is the bit she's cut? I think it needed doing, tbh. The uncut parts look pretty out of control. Goodness knows what they'd be like if left another year.

glintandglide · 16/09/2018 13:39

And honestly OP I have to say the idea that you considered confronting a person you know has a warning in their housing file for aggressive behaviour over this is quite mind blowing tbh. What are you thinking?

Beeziekn33ze · 16/09/2018 13:42

OP - I thought you meant an actual hole that people could easily see through, and maybe crawl through! Silly me!

AjasLipstick · 16/09/2018 13:57

It's not a hole at all. She's just done a bad job....why don't you tidy it up?

MozzieMagnet · 16/09/2018 13:57

And honestly OP I have to say the idea that you considered confronting a person you know has a warning in their housing file for aggressive behaviour over this is quite mind blowing tbh. What are you thinking?

She isn't confronting her for this very reason. She mentioned it to preempt all posters demanding she talk to her neighbour rather than us.

SassitudeandSparkle · 16/09/2018 13:58

I'd call that a dip, not a hole and that hedge has grown a lot judging by the shoots on the top. I am wondering if this is a reverse though and you've cut the hedge like that.

Either way - if neither of you can trim the top of the hedge, can you go halves on someone who can (do you know who the hedge actually belongs to/has responsibility for upkeep?)

glintandglide · 16/09/2018 14:00

But presumably she wanted some kind of action to be taken, even if it wasn’t asking herself? Otherwise what was the point

TomHardysNextWife · 16/09/2018 14:07

Be a good neighbour OP and cut the hedge your side.

I'd say she's trying to get the height down. If you don't do it yearly, before you know it it's 20 foot high and you're communicating via solicitors.
