I loathe him.

QuoadUltra · 13/09/2018 22:23

endofthelinefinally · 13/09/2018 22:25

I thought he has a genuine speech impediment.

derrydarling · 13/09/2018 22:27

I find him quite sexy!

SirB0bby · 13/09/2018 22:31

@derrydarling Laughing at the thought of him talking dirty, speeding up and slowing down in all the wrong places!

SirB0bby · 13/09/2018 22:33

@endofthelinefinally it seems a bit put on, but maybe he can't help. Wonder if he talks that way off the telly!

YANBU

Ghostontoast · 13/09/2018 22:40

Does he still look like he has a phobia of going to the barbers?

mamansnet · 14/09/2018 06:32

YADNU. Can't stand him.

Losingthewill1 · 14/09/2018 06:39

He is rather full of himself

BitOfFun · 14/09/2018 06:41

He's lovely. Did you ever listen to his 'My Teenage Diary' on Radio 4?

Bananamanfan · 14/09/2018 06:44

He used to annoy me, but now I think he is rather handsome and seems like a lovely guy.

AviatorShades · 14/09/2018 06:45

He shows all the signs of someone who has learned how to overcome a stammer, I've heard that particular speech pattern of deep breath>rush of words>deep breath>repeat, by someone I know. My friend was taught it by a speech therapist, I'd always thought that RP is doing the same?

MistakenHoliday · 14/09/2018 06:50

Agree with PPs, I thought he spoke that way because he has a stammer and it's a tactic to avoid it? He's much more 'fluent', for want of a better word, when he's doing something scripted...

AviatorShades · 14/09/2018 06:52

Well, I've just googled, in 2015 the beeb sent him on a course to iron out his "speech eccentricities" after listeners complaints about the way he sounded.

OrdinaryGirl · 14/09/2018 06:55

I know what you mean, but years ago I read this article about his wife dying and then stopped caring about his presenting style 😭 The guy has really been through it.

Topseyt · 14/09/2018 06:55

Surely he has a speech impediment that he has worked hard to control and overcome?

How nasty to start a thread poking fun at that.

I like him. If you don't then fair enough, you don't have to watch. There is an off switch if you prefer.

inquiquotiokixul · 14/09/2018 06:59

His voice intonation is deeply irritating but I suspect it is related to an 80%-overcome speech impediment. If you try to filter out the irritation and listen to the words he is funny and clever and very much worth listening to.

AviatorShades · 14/09/2018 07:38

Brilliant economic analyst who explains really well and as for the rest? Does it really matter? Shock

Lethaldrizzle · 14/09/2018 07:40

He used to have a stammer and now he's a top broadcaster. Pretty inspirational I would say.

ImperfectTents · 14/09/2018 07:44

He can do no wrong

Moanella · 14/09/2018 08:24

I've commented before that he often seem like he's imbibed a few alcoholic beverages before going on air.

BertrandRussell · 14/09/2018 08:29

He explains things really clearly.

He is prepared to be outspoken and challenging on live TV.

He had overcome a speech impediment to become a broadcaster.

He is funny and erudite on panel shows.

Which bit don't you like?

HaveSomeGrace · 14/09/2018 09:25

He’s one of the very few journalists I actually stop and listen to because he explains well and has a somewhat enthusiastic approach to his presentation!! He seems like a nice guy.
