To always skip the order of the Phoenix?

Harry is so angry and there's so much teenage angst.

He should have done occlumency properly. I know snape was shitty but he didn't even try!

The only good thing in the book is Ginny becoming her own character. Book Ginny is 10000000% better than film ginny.

Why didn't he use the mirror Sirius gave him?

Anyway! My DH thinks I'm VU to not read that book when I re-read them! I also hate the chamber of secrets as a film it's dreadful! So aibu?

YANBU. The O of the P needs a good edit and the Chamber of Secrets is the worst one.

Hertha · 09/09/2018 00:34

I quit the series after slogging my way through that book. YANBU.

NameChangedNow · 09/09/2018 00:35

Ooh I loved it! But then I do love a secret society.

Itchybitsy · 09/09/2018 00:36

The chamber of secrets is such a boring film! But yeah the order of the Phoenix is rubbish

Turn2Page394 · 09/09/2018 00:37

I always skip the chapter 'Grawp'. Film wise I alway skip Goblet of Fire Hmm

Userplusnumbers · 09/09/2018 00:39

Yabu to skip the book, not the film though, I agree ginny in the films was done a massive disservice

OhSoSiriusly · 09/09/2018 00:41

Hmm I can take or leave Order of the Phoenix. When I'm reading the books, I like to read them all, otherwise I just feel like I'm missing out. But the films.... Can't abide Chamber of Secrets! The book is fine, but it just wasn't translated to film well at all

Userplusnumbers · 09/09/2018 00:41

Also, it's really unfair to put the onus on Harry for doing occlumency properly, when Snape wanted him to fail. Harry would never succeed with Snape as that relationship is too complex and up until the end of book seven he never had the context

Pinkandproud · 09/09/2018 01:00

YABVVVU about chamber of secrets film. That’s my favourite one!

silvercuckoo · 09/09/2018 13:27

+1 to the PP who skips Grawp (as well as the while giants story), I do the same. My least favourite bit of series, and feels like it has been added just for the word count.

ProudThrilledHappy · 09/09/2018 13:31

I always feel it is the book where lots of minor characters really come into their own as well. Its the chapter where they transition from kids to young adults.

The angst is exactly what it is like for teens at that age so it does fit.

I agree he should have used the bloody mirror though!

QueenOfCatan · 09/09/2018 13:31

Yabu to skip the book, but then I skip while chunks of HBP and whilst I've just finished OftP I'm dithering about starting HBP because it's my least favourite book!

Eemamc · 09/09/2018 13:31

Ginny is such a great character in the books. The films do her such an injustice, which is so frustrating. I love all the books though. I often listen to the audiobooks to help me sleep

DannyWallace · 09/09/2018 13:32

I don't mind the book, but yeah I get it, he's so angry!
TOTALLY agree about chamber of secrets though! I don't know why but it totally does my head in!
LOVE goblet of fire....when I read it. I was so upset when I saw the film-they basically took out the maze! I loved that bit!!

QueenOfCatan · 09/09/2018 13:32

Re the mirror he just forgot he had something from Sirius and only discovered what it was at the end of the book. I get really annoyed at him whenever I read that part though!

candlefloozy · 09/09/2018 13:33

I loved it. All of the books are great
However, when it comes to the films I cannot bear to watch the first two. So husband has never seen Harry Potter because I can't sit through the first two.

peachgreen · 09/09/2018 13:36

Harry's fucking "chest monster" makes me feel a bit sick. Blech.

TheGirlWhoLived · 09/09/2018 13:37

I skip Chamber of Secrets more often than not - don't get warmed up until POA

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 09/09/2018 13:39

YABU! OOtP is the best book, although the entire Ginny storyline could have been written out and it would have been much better.

Fishywishyhead · 09/09/2018 13:39

Yabvu if about the book, if the film I agree. The book is long but entirely brilliant. Even Gwarp.

TheBeatGoesOnandOn · 09/09/2018 14:14

I'm with you. Umbridge just makes me irrationally annoyed so tend to skip it for that reason alone.

TheBeatGoesOnandOn · 09/09/2018 14:16

I do like to read it to get to know Neville/Luna more though.

silvercuckoo · 09/09/2018 14:34

I am also skipping bits here and there that REALLY grate on me as an adult. When they send Finch solo to dungeons to look for the troll - we don't know yet he's a Squib, but the teachers certainly do. When the key to winning a quidditch match is simply owning a more expensive broom. Dudley's fat shaming. Fred and George selling love potions - aren't they effectively magic date rape drugs?

LyndorCake · 09/09/2018 14:43

I never skip a book. I adore them so much. OOTP and HBP are my least favourites but still have to read them.
Harry is so frustrating! Dick.
Can't watch the films. They are so disappointing! In my head Fred and George were well fit and funny, in the films they are so flat and exactly like actors reading a script. Ginny isn't sassy enough. Just no.

PoesyCherish · 09/09/2018 15:03

YADNBU OP. It's like JK realised she was actually writing about teenagers and wrote years worth of hormonal angst into one book. I'm not a fan. That said I would never actually skip the book just because I feel like I'd be missing out then.
