B&M horror show!

Most of the time I can work out if I am being a bit precious or not but I can't make my mind up here...

Every year around this time the local B&M stores are absolutely full of awful, demonic and scary Halloween decorations. I don't mean goofy Halloween. I mean like a scary adult Freddy Kruger kind of party...

It's not a case of avoid the aisle with DD who is 4. The stuff is everywhere on every aisle. Even at the bloody checkout. Clearly we can just avoid going there for a couple months but is it not a bit daft of them?

TBH my DD just stood wide eyed and mouth open at the decrepit old hag witch hanging in her face at the checkout as I tried to divert her and pack a bag.

Aibu that I think they should keep it in a set aisle??

YABU going to B&M, it's a hideous place. Could suck the joy out of anyone, Halloween or not.

WellErrr · 06/09/2018 13:03

Wilkinsons sticks to set aisles, try there?

Steelesauce · 06/09/2018 13:06

Surely you just tell her its not real and move on?

eyycarumba · 06/09/2018 13:07

DS loves halloween, always has. He's also very aware they're just decoration specifically for halloween and none of it's real. I usually have to drag him away from pressing buttons on all of the moving decs.

Yes, you're being precious.

Better than xmas crap everywhere which will be stuffed down our throats over the next couple of months.

RebootYourEngine · 06/09/2018 13:09

It sounds like the same crap from last year.

Halloween is meant to be scary.

Sassenach85 · 06/09/2018 13:13

Grin fair enough .... I did suspect I was. Ring slightly precious and so posted on here. The main point is she wasn't upset or anything I just thought it a bit much for the stuff to be literally everywhere.

decrepit old hag witch

Not very nice to describe a customer like this op Grin

Armi · 06/09/2018 13:44

I agree, OP. A few years ago my DD was too frightened to go into The Range because of the Hallowe’en display some bright spark had set up just inside the doors. Telling my daughter it wasn’t real didn’t do much good - she was very upset.

I love a bit of Hallowe’en tat, but this was a bit OTT, with life-sized zombies and the like.

Sassenach85 · 06/09/2018 13:45

Grin to be honest they are a common occurrence in my local B&M 😂

Sassenach85 · 06/09/2018 13:49

It's not like she doesn't see "scary" things. There are things you can't avoid in the big wide world obviously. We watch Scooby Doo and those daft Halloween ads etc and of course have had the "it's not real" chat. It's just ..... the decorations were so freaky and life size and in your face and .... maybe it was me who was frightened Grin

@Annechristmas Grin brilliant

DanglyBangly · 06/09/2018 13:52

I don't think you're being precious. Some of the stuff is really gruesome.

HaveSomeGrace · 06/09/2018 13:56

@Steelesauce

Yeh but kid sees the scary face of whatever it is, mum says don’t worry it’s not real, they walk away but kid is still processing that ‘thing’ he just saw and ends up dreaming about it or next time they go to that shop, asking if those weird faces will be there again. Because things stick in kids minds.

Sassenach85 · 06/09/2018 14:09

If an ad for a scary adult movie came on tv I would change channel but couldn't do that in the shop. I know I probably am being a bit over protective but the stuff was so freaky and a lot of it was right at her height and her wee face was just really not sure what to make of it. "Oh it's just pretend" but she couldn't stop staring 😂

I actually empathise but sadly yes nothing to be done really.

We love halloween ( doesn't help I grew up in the states) and fully engage ...but the other day poor old ds2 had a (imo perfectly reasonable given the creepiness level of the hanging clown that was twice the size of him) meltdown in B and M

Not their fault of course ....it was in a Halloween aisle where we looking at the fun end ...more smiling fuzzy pumpkin level and a teenager set off this giant hanging clown thing....poor ds2 basically freaked and I can't say I blame him

But shops sell halloween stuff , why wouldn't they...i felt really guilty he was so distressed but nothing unreasonable about the whole thing really

actualpuffins · 06/09/2018 14:16

What's B&M?

YANBU though, I hate Hallowe'en being taken over by horror film fancy dress. Freddy Kreuger posters really disturbed me as a small child.

OutPinked · 06/09/2018 14:18

PiggeryPorcombe · 06/09/2018 14:19

My 10yr old has to walk past the halloween stuff with her hands over her eyes as she hates it. Easy to avoid when it’s the one aisle but yeah b&m has it fricking everywhere.

We don’t “do” halloween either so I’m never going to be tempted to buy any of the tacky crap.

Take your business elsewhere for a few weeks op.

MyGardenNeedsHelp · 06/09/2018 14:28

decrepit old hag witch

Ah, you saw my neighbour in there. Was she well?

formerbabe · 06/09/2018 14:30

Last year, I nearly jumped out of my skin at our nearest store. There were some terrifying looking displays. I was more scared than my kids! One aisle I genuinely couldn't walk back down..I am a total wimp though!

Knitella · 06/09/2018 14:31

Completely agree about B&M and the Range at Halloween. My son loves normal kids Halloween stuff but their displays are more like adult horror. It is OTT so we avoid it.

GreenMeerkat · 06/09/2018 14:31

I know what you mean, is it those creepy ass 'little girl ghost' dolls that they people like to randomly stick in the middle of the aisle to creep the shit out of everyone?

GreenMeerkat · 06/09/2018 14:33

This......

B&M horror show!
ToadOfSadness · 06/09/2018 14:39

TBH my DD just stood wide eyed and mouth open at the decrepit old hag witch hanging in her face at the checkout as I tried to divert her and pack a bag.

The staff in ours are quite young and presentable.

Sassenach85 · 06/09/2018 14:40

Not to mention the slutty dead nurse costumes hung up to tempt the buyer 😂

And as we said, Freddy Kruger masks etc
It's just a bit ... Much. For a shop that is always teeming with kids and babies in buggies. Couldn't argue if it was one aisle but it was from moment we walked in! Tinned soup and a hanging bleeding witch.... cushions and a mini zombie butler with a slit throat ..... garden aisle with hanging dead children ghost faces and blood pouring out ..... Confused anyway! Yeah easy solution for me to stay away for a while.
