So took my spaniel to a river walk , it is very popular with fishermen, families , dog walkers, horse riders etc

To avoid the amount of people yesterday I kept him on the lead and walked about 2 miles along to an area which is very very quiet - I rarely see anyone here. I let him off the lead and was throwing his ball in the river . After half an hour a woman appeared wearing white trousers white top and sandals , she went down to the river side where my dog was, my dog exited the river near her (only exit to the bank ) and ran towards me right past her.

As he did this he sprayed her with water as he ran past getting some river water on her very white clothes- cue a torrent of abuse from this women how I need to control my dog , I owe her money for dry cleaning etc. He didn’t run up to her and didn’t jump up! I told her to get lost and said it was her fault and she saw my dog was in the water and would be exiting near her, and she should have moved away . I took my dog and left but now nervous about seeing her again as it’s my usual dog walk .

Was I being unreasonable or was she??

She was. If you leave the house wearing an all white outfit you are just asking for trouble.

Stormtrooper1986 · 30/08/2018 14:11

Who wears all white to a river walk and surely it must be expected that you will get a bit dirty - I did feel a bit bad but my dog needed to get out of the river and she was stood near the only exit !

Her for putting herself in such a position AND for giving you abuse.

Hidillyho · 30/08/2018 14:12

She was.

I wouldn’t worry about it. How would she even expect you to track her down and give you money?

MrsMozart · 30/08/2018 14:12

She's a silly woman.

Her issue, not yours.

Clairetree1 · 30/08/2018 14:13

you, for letting your dog get her dirty

TwitterQueen1 · 30/08/2018 14:13

We dog-walkers laugh out loud silently to ourselves whenever we see people in all white. I mean, seriously? Flip flops also. There are TICKS around people....

Stormtrooper1986 · 30/08/2018 14:14

No clue There was no way I was giving her money !

This is why I love spaniels. No respecter of pretension. A bit of mud won’t kill her and may do her some good.

Stormtrooper1986 · 30/08/2018 14:15

Clair tree how could it have been avoided??

Anonymumm · 30/08/2018 14:15

I can see it from both points of view, however, I think it may have been best to just apologise to her - I'd be miffed if I was her, regardless of whether I was wearing all white, or not. Frustrating for you though, having been so considerate of everyone else for the past 2 miles, Andrew you didn't deserve a tirade of abuse.

I wouldn't worry if you see her again, a new day and all that - I would just throw her a big smile and say what a lovely day it is and act completely oblivious.

MissusGeneHunt · 30/08/2018 14:16

I champion your spaniel!

Seriously though, she was BU, not you.

Maelstrop · 30/08/2018 14:16

She was unreasonable. Who goes for a walk by the river in their best dry clean only blindingly white outfit? Ridiculous woman.

Stormtrooper1986 · 30/08/2018 14:19

He is such a good dog and I do try to be a responsible owner - if crowds I put him on a lead and only let him off when no kids etc around - and he has excellent recall (as long as I have a tennis ball )

brokenharbour · 30/08/2018 14:20

Stupid woman!

Stormtrooper1986 · 30/08/2018 14:21

Love that weasel words -“ no respector of pretention” !!! Grin

Confusedbeetle · 30/08/2018 14:21

Oh hilarious. She will think twice about doing that again

CripsSandwiches · 30/08/2018 14:23

It's all context isn't it. If your dog sprays her nice outfit with muddy water on the high Street it's your fault, if your dog sprays her nice outfit with muddy water by a river its her problem.

Dljlr · 30/08/2018 14:25

Not being a lover of dogs (understatement) it's rare that I come down on their side, but in this instance she was definitely U. She may as well have sat on a freshly painted bench with a wet paint sign on it and then bitched she had a painty bum.

FlirtyRomanticToast · 30/08/2018 14:30

I agree with @CrispSandwiches

Also, an all white outfit? Was this woman Jennifer Lopez?

Lazypuppy · 30/08/2018 14:33

@TwitterQueen1

We dog-walkers laughout loud silently to ourselves whenever we see people in all white. I mean, seriously?

Haha yep! I get it all the time where i walk. Theres a big lake that is always full of dogs in and out of the water and always someone in a completely inapropriate outfit for a walk through muddy woods where dogs play in the water

actualpuffins · 30/08/2018 14:40

I think I would have laughed my head off at her reaction. SIlly cow, of course she was being unreasonable.

eggsandwich · 30/08/2018 14:45

Agree with op if your wearing white out anywhere it’s going to get marks on it.

I’m wearing white today but that’s only because I’m in all day changing the beds.

easyandy101 · 30/08/2018 14:54

A lot of victim blaming itt
