Just that really - very, so proud of ds who got way better results than his 'profile' expected when the educationalists threw him on the scrapheap all those years ago.

There was no where else really to post in celebration of our dcs results - (not appropo in the dc got ten million 9s and an 8, how can we remark? threads), for me any result was a result..

Share your celebrations here...and any disappointments, we'll do our best to help if we can.

Well done our kids.

Sorry what is a 5?

Bobbybobbins · 24/08/2018 19:11

Well done to your DS! I'm a teacher and so proud of a girl in my class whose target was. 3 and she got a 4!

EmmaGellerGreen · 24/08/2018 19:11

Fabulous, well done to him! I agree that we should celebrate all success, I’m sure that your DC worked just as hard if not harder than many of the 9 “1”s.

Theworldisfullofgs · 24/08/2018 19:12

Congratulations to your ds. We should be rewarding effort just as much.

Theworldisfullofgs · 24/08/2018 19:13

And I meant to add success is contextual to each child. Comparison is rubbish really.

Livedandlearned2 · 24/08/2018 19:14

We definitely should be celebrating all those who tried their best. That's all that matters, these exams are a lot of pressure on our kids.

Rosie2000 · 24/08/2018 19:14

I’m a teacher too and delighted for mine who got 4/5 s. I’m hoping my own daughter does this well next year. It’s tough for the students, parents and teachers. Many congratulations

jarhead123 · 24/08/2018 19:15

Well done to your son.

@30hours a 5 is an old C I believe

Toadsrevisited · 24/08/2018 19:15

A 5 is the new 'good pass' grade - roughly a C+. 8-9 are A* equivalent.

JustWrong · 24/08/2018 19:16

Is there a new scoring system? 😮
Is this across all qualifications?

Oh and it's never wrong to be proud of your kids for doing their best 😊

swampytiggaa · 24/08/2018 19:16

I’m really proud of my son 🙂 he took double science and was estimated to get a 2&3 doing the foundation papers. He got a 4&5 which means he got almost full marks on all his exams 💕

30hours · 24/08/2018 19:18

A 5 is great! Well done

ThePinkOcelot · 24/08/2018 19:21

Well done to your son. YADNBU to be proud of him!

HateIsNotGood · 24/08/2018 19:23

Yes - my ds did great, very, very proud and the replies from the teachers here who have their own proudest moments getting there 'less able' students to higher grades is appreciated - one of the few things that make it all worth doing I imagine.

Historically - I should post in SN - but I won't.

Also - I want to give a place for all those parents out there who are also proud of their children - the world is for all of us.

Cocolepew · 24/08/2018 19:30

Well done to him.
My DD got an e, 4 cs and a b and we are delighted.

She was sitting on e's and f's a while ago.

My dad was a teacher, and one year I was there when he was going through the results for his students - it wasn’t a class where a lot of kids had got top grades, but he kept saying things like ‘oh that’s great for her’, ‘he did it! That’s fantastic’ ‘I’m so pleased he’s got that’. I have no idea why I was there, I probably should not have been...

HateIsNotGood · 24/08/2018 19:35

Yahay swampy - who said what other people think about us means that should limit us - us knows better better. (yes I know grammar police, tiz all wrongly spelt).

Another teacher here sending congratulations to your son and all.the others who worked hard for their results!

I taught some kids this year who genuiney struggled with learning but worked their socks off. I am exceptionally proud of their 4/5 grades as are they.

There was a lovely moment in our school yesterday when a boy who has additional learning needs and is absolutely lovely opened his results. He mainly got 4s (including English, maths and science!) - old grade C for those unfamiliar. He was so pleased and proud of himself - he practically danced outside to tell his mum. Quite a few of us had tears in our eyes watching him Smile

I do think that while of course, pupils who get too grades should absolutely be celebrated, we should remember that not everyone is academically gifted and for some, acheiving a grade at all had been a massive struggle for them.

HateIsNotGood · 24/08/2018 19:39

Forgot to add he got a 1 and a 2 as well. So we're not bragging too much.

PumpkinPie2016 · 24/08/2018 19:42

Goodness me - please excuse typos! I'm on my phone!

I can spell - honestly!

HateIsNotGood · 24/08/2018 19:42

Pumpkin bless you we shall never forget you - I'm sure you weren't the same teacher I saw outside ds's school yesterday, but you could have been.

Thank you so much.

That’s bloody marvellous. He and you should be chuffed. I love seeing my students do better than they expected.
