Just that really - very, so proud of ds who got way better results than his 'profile' expected when the educationalists threw him on the scrapheap all those years ago.

There was no where else really to post in celebration of our dcs results - (not appropo in the dc got ten million 9s and an 8, how can we remark? threads), for me any result was a result..

Share your celebrations here...and any disappointments, we'll do our best to help if we can.

Well done our kids.

Yay, well done him, and all the others too!

WorldCupnovice · 24/08/2018 19:52

This is refreshing. I get a little 'meh' at posters being disappointed because their DC only got 6's. While I realise that if their child is predicted (or expecting)8s they may be upset, but these are still good grades and frankly a kick in the teeth for the less academic child who has studied hard but scrapped through with 4/Cs or less. Last year my DD got 2xC 1x4 and 1x5 the remainder Ds . I was very proud of her .

bionicnemonic · 24/08/2018 19:55

Its lovely to read this thread - I'm sat here in tears!

SavageBeauty73 · 24/08/2018 19:55

My DD got six 4's and two 3's. She hasn't got the grades for her first choice sixth form and is bitterly disappointed so we are looking at other options. HOWEVER, she had open heart surgery in the first term (term off), chronic anxiety, and my ex DH in rehab for six months. I couldn't be prouder of what she's achieved.

OutPinked · 24/08/2018 19:57

Congratulations to all students who passed.

I was delighted to hear some of my students passed with a 4 or 5 despite being certain they would fail. I did tell them to stop doubting themselves!

HolidayHelpPlease · 24/08/2018 19:58

I’m a teacher - I love this thread!
I have students for whom even showing up to the exam and writing something was the hugest victory. I am proud of all of my kids who put in the effort, and I hope they know that.

HolidayHelpPlease · 24/08/2018 19:59

Also, because everyone keeps forgetting this : anything above a U is a pass!

LookingForContentment · 24/08/2018 20:01

I was thinking the same thing. Any child that has fulfilled their potential should have their success celebrated.

LookingForContentment · 24/08/2018 20:05

Sorry - accidentally posted too soon - I have kids who objectively have done pretty well in exams.
But if people understood the illness they have to contend with (Tourette’s syndrome) they would be amazed at how well they have done. It is not all about As or 9s.

HateIsNotGood · 24/08/2018 20:06

I might have to go to bed soon - something do do with exhaling breath after so many years... but please keep this thread going, it isn''t about my son -it's about yours and your students.

Sleep well @HateIsNotGood it's a lovely thread. Proud of all the kids 💐

Arry686 · 24/08/2018 20:11

Congratulations to your son OP, I also was predicted a 4 and managed to get a 5 in my GCSE English 12 years after leaving school and also having additional needs (I'm dsypraxic) :)

goforthandmultiply · 24/08/2018 20:15

4 is the new "C and above" so anything that's 4 and above is essentially C and above. Huge well done to him.

Leeds2 · 24/08/2018 20:17

Well Done to your DS Hatels. He is a star!

Moonflower12 · 24/08/2018 20:34

I was a TA at a High School in the Intervention dept. It was always the ones who had overcome adversity who got me- not the 9 A* students. A lot of the time that adversity can be hidden due to pride etc.

cathcath2 · 24/08/2018 20:35

Congratulations @Arry686 that is fab! Going back to education is hard x

Well done to your DS @HateIsNotGood. A 5 is great - it means loads of doors are open to him that wouldn't be otherwise x

HateIsNotGood · 24/08/2018 20:36

Nighty night savage - I checked in, saw you and all I can offer is my thoughts that somehow it will be ok.

That's it. And whilst I can now rest well - I know that there are so many difficulties behind me....

I can't stay and fight for everyone, all I can say is that if you fight for your own, you might win. And you might not.

Thank you @Cathcath2 :) Starting Functional skills maths level 1 in a few weeks, feeling very nervous xx

Yet another teacher here but I have so many students that I’m proud of. I am proud of the girl who got a 3 when her target was a 1. I am proud of the girl who got a 5 when her target was a 7 (she’s had a terrible year and I’m thrilled she did so well). I am proud of the boy who got a 4 when he’s been so ill this year he’s only been to two lessons. I’m also proud of my students who got 9s because they worked their arses off.
I’m glad you started this OP it’s lovely to show how well all students have done.
And yes - this is one of the best bits of the job. X

Bluelonerose · 24/08/2018 20:46

That's so lovely to hear op well done to your dc.
I was an average c grade child. I worked my arse off but got no well done nothing.
It's nice to see hard work being rewarded.

TeenTimesTwo · 24/08/2018 20:48

I think that often those 4s and 5s can be harder won than the 7s, 8s and 9s.

Those struggling to pass not only have to understand the work, they often have more difficulty learning it and then reproducing it. As well as putting the hours in (like everyone does to get 'good for them' results) they also have to overcome the self esteem issues that come with struggling with subjects compared with peers day in day out, often from key stage 1.

If my DD2 gets 5 x grade 4 in 3 years time including Eng & Maths I will be delighted. It looks now as if it will be a struggle.

southnownorth · 24/08/2018 20:53

Well done to your ds.

I am so proud of dd who managed a 4 in Maths. We had her tested for dyscalculia in year 8 as she was so far behind so to have managed to pass I am thrilled for her and her amazing teacher who was over the moon for her the other day.

Whaaaatthe · 24/08/2018 20:55

Huge congrats to him OP. you should definitely be proud.

For PP’s asking about the new GCSE grades, here’s a rough guide.

freelancescientist · 24/08/2018 21:02

Many congrats to your son from another mum who is pleased as punch with a bunch of 4s and 5s. He's got what he needs for the next stage of his life and has learnt that hard work pays off! I mortified him by seeking out his maths teacher and thanking him for dragging him through his gcse.

Clarissa111 · 25/08/2018 00:43

My daughter is very bright. But always been naughty and never tried. The last 6 months, she got her head down and worked. She got 5's in every subject. I couldn't be more proud! She could have done better, but she's turned it around and got decent passes in all subjects.
All you can ask is their best. And the exams are so stressful.
Well done to all your children!
