I follow a friend of a friend online they are a gay couple (both men) . He just put a picture of an adorable newborn with the caption on august the 22nd my boyfriend gave birth to .... blah blah

what does that mean ? That they had a surrogate and his boyfriend is the father ? Is the the "politically correct" way to announce it ?
I find it very dissrespectful

Is he a pre op transgender?

sonlypuppyfat · 24/08/2018 15:01

He gave birth?

Baylis · 24/08/2018 15:01

Could it be that he is trans? Not sure why else they would say he "gave birth" to a baby, slightly odd choice of words otherwise IMO!

PurpleDaisies · 24/08/2018 15:01

Is your friend Tom Daley?

confusedimmigrant · 24/08/2018 15:03

@PurpleDaisies i dont know who is that
He is not trans he is just a gay man

Well If he's a man he obviously hasn't given birth Grin so no idea what it means. But yes maybe he's transgendered. If it was a surrogate I doubt you'd use the term 'given birth' as that would be incorrect and just a bit odd!

MeyMary · 24/08/2018 15:04

Did he type boyfriend or bf?

Bf could be his best friend....?

Or a transman, I suppose.

9amTrain · 24/08/2018 15:05

my boyfriend gave birth to

Jesus, no he didn't 😂

Unless he's trans, which you say he isn't. So no, he didn't

Racecardriver · 24/08/2018 15:05

Men don't give birth. He must be a transman.

Racecardriver · 24/08/2018 15:06

Just to clarify you wouldn't say boyfriend gave birth if he was biological father and surogat was used just as much as you wouldn't say mam in heterosexual couple gave birth.

confusedimmigrant · 24/08/2018 15:07

He typed boyfriend . Ok so they have an instagram account for the babyHmm and there is a picture of a woman lying in the hospital bed with the baby on her chest and his boyfriend taking a selfie.
Mystery solved !!

Lots of couples say "We're pregnant" these days (which annoys the shite out of me, if I'm honest - no, the woman who will carry the child and give birth to it is pregnant) - so I wonder if they did surrogacy and they're claiming the sperm donor 'gave birth'?

confusedimmigrant · 24/08/2018 15:07

I just found it really odd and disrespectful for the surrogate

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 24/08/2018 15:08

So they used a surrogate?

PurpleDaisies · 24/08/2018 15:09

I’m not sure it’s disrespectful do much as totally bizarre and inaccurate to say a man gave birth.

seafret · 24/08/2018 15:10

Only female humans can give birth so there is some bullshit nonsense with languge going on, or a big typo.

seafret · 24/08/2018 15:12

It is really disresectful to the surrogate to deny her experience and take it as his own - and weird.

Coldilox · 24/08/2018 15:12

I took it as tongue on cheek. Dads often post birth announcements saying their partners gave birth to x at y time, it was just mimicking that. He clearly wasn't trying to imply his boyfriend actually gave birth

Coldilox · 24/08/2018 15:12

Tongue in cheek, not on cheek!

Poloshot · 24/08/2018 15:16

It means he's lying

combatbarbie · 24/08/2018 15:17

May not be a surrogate, could be an agreement for both bf and the woman to be parents???

combatbarbie · 24/08/2018 15:17

Then have shared care agreement??

confusedimmigrant · 24/08/2018 15:19

I just asked in case it was the new norm ! Like the "we are pregnant " phrase !

Failingat40 · 24/08/2018 15:21

They sound confused, entitled and deluded.

Poor kid.

Will the baby have any contact with its mother?

Jaxtellerswife · 24/08/2018 15:21

I don't think it really mattersHmmanyone will know that neither dad gave birth, I'd just say congrats and leave it at that.
