Katie Piper's Attacker To Be Released

HCHQ · 24/08/2018 12:54

He's served just 9 years of a life sentence. I realise "life" doesn't always mean "life" but still.

Disgusted at this discussion.

Just had to vent.

Presumably the ex who directed the attack is still in jail?

gendercritter · 24/08/2018 13:03

She must be feeling very frightened

MissionItsPossible · 24/08/2018 13:04

I think I read the ex got jailed for 20+ years.

9 years but a life sentence for Katie. Sentencing is a joke in this country.

jay55 · 24/08/2018 13:08

He did a terrible thing but if he poses no danger it doesn’t seem unreasonable to me, given he was the hired hand not orchestrator.

MozzieMagnet · 24/08/2018 13:09

Yes, Stefan Sylvestre. Minimum of 6 years, has served 9-10.
Danny Lynch has to serve a minimum of 16 years (not only had he orchestrated the attack, he also raped her)

Amanduh · 24/08/2018 13:31

So what if he poses no danger! He deserves to rot in there.

Agree. What good does it do to keep him in prison, especially since he has served 150% of his minimum sentence and deemed fit for release? Who would be helped by keeping him in prison even longer?

This

ClaryFray · 24/08/2018 13:49

If he poses no risk to the public then let him go. You don't know the ins and outs of his case or what rehabilitation has taken place in the last 9 years.

MissionItsPossible · 25/08/2018 19:36

If the victim was a member of your family would you be so tolerant? I don’t care what kind of rehabilitation he has had, the fact that he threw acid in someone’s face and disfigured them for life and he gets let off after 9 years is despicable to me. He gave her a life sentence when he threw the acid on her and he should have been given the same life sentence imprisoned.

This was such a huge news story at the time. Now the same stories are reported almost fortnightly. No wonder it’s becoming a casual thing because the sentencing is so light. If someone truly hated someone and wanted to hurt them they would do a decade or less in jail to ruin their life. I repeat, the sentencing in this country is a joke.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 25/08/2018 19:38

What’s the point in a life sentence if it’s not for life?
I’ve never understood this.

MrBeansXmasTurkey · 25/08/2018 19:44

Someone willing to do such an evil thing for money seems to be just as dangerous as the one who does it for personal reasons. If someone else offers him the right money maybe he could do it again?

sonlypuppyfat · 25/08/2018 19:47

What good does it do? It will punish him that's what it will do

Tigertill716 · 25/08/2018 19:47

Oh josh this is horrible. I think given the fact he did those actions on the instruction of someone else shows how dangerous he is, 9 years is nothing.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/08/2018 20:01

Are you taking the piss, Jay.
The organiser of the attack is every bit some would say more evil sadistic and twisted than the attacker.
As a pp says even if he doesn't pose any danger to the public. He should still serve a hefty punishment. I'd have given them both a minimum of 40 years. What happens when he gets pissed off with his next poor girl friend who when you think about it anyone for eg our Daughters sisters nieces Grandaughters.

GhostPerfume · 25/08/2018 20:06

I think the ex is more dangerous

Lookatyourwatchnow · 25/08/2018 20:11

Who is more dangerous isn't really relevant. Clearly they are both very dangerous 'men' and neither of them will ever, ever NOT pose a risk to others.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/08/2018 20:18

Apologies I got my wires crossed it's the attacker being released not the organiser.
Not that that's any consultation, though.
Women well in fact no one is safe.

Mrsmadevans · 25/08/2018 20:21

Just awful for her and her loved ones . I think he will be a marked man though, he will be under surveillance and the moment he does the slightest thing out of place he will be back inside.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/08/2018 20:23

I singled out Jay which is wrong as there are some posters who seem to be of the sAme mind. That it's fine and dandy that this disgusting peice of scum be released back into society. Shame on you.Angry

LouHotel · 25/08/2018 20:26

I remember watching her original documentary and the daily pain she was in even a year after the attack, her skin had to be peeled every day to stop scar damage (or something to that affect)

I think people might be forgetting how horrific this was as her image is now 9 years down the line and countless rehabilitation and corrective surgery so some may not view her as the victim she was.

She's about to start strictly which is firmly in the spotlight so imagine She's scared but if somehow she turns out to be mumsnetter just to say I think you are an absolutely amazing women for how you've lived your life.

DerekTheBrave · 25/08/2018 20:28

If the victim was a member of your family would you be so tolerant?

If it were a member of my family I’d want the death penalty and would happily carry it out in the most drawn out way possible.

Which is the reason that (thankfully) those with emotional involvement aren’t making these decisions.

I agree with some pp’s...if he’s no risk to the public, let him go.

N0bodysM0t · 25/08/2018 20:28

Yes I read this. this must be hard. I know she's AMAZING and so positive and lives life, but this must be hard.

N0bodysM0t · 25/08/2018 20:29

Yes, if she's on mumsnet, she is an amazing person, she has all of my respect.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/08/2018 20:30

YY Lou.
