To think I’m going to die after eating lightly cooked edamame?

BigBlueBubble · 20/08/2018 21:51

I lightly stir fried some edamame and ate them crunchy. Put the packet in the bin while tidying up and it says Caution:Do not eat raw. A quick check on Google reveals that raw edamame are poisonous. I now feel sick but it might be psychological. Am I going to die?

Oh fucking hell, I've been putting these over our salads for months Confused

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 20/08/2018 22:38

I used to eat raw potato, every time my mum cut up the potatoes for dinner I'd get a bit.

I think regular garden peas are fine to eat straight out the shell. I thought edamame was some sort of mushroom! Blush

ChasedByBees · 20/08/2018 22:39

People eat raw potatoes?!

Mrsmadevans · 20/08/2018 22:41

Oh l had no idea l eat them raw too Shock

Oysterbabe · 20/08/2018 22:41

Didn't some people die from eating uncooked frozen sweetcorn? Listeria or something? Maybe it's because of that.

CrystalMazing · 20/08/2018 22:43

Raw. Potato.

Why??

StorminaTCut · 20/08/2018 22:43

We used to eat raw potatoes as kids, when chopping them for egg & chips, burger & chips, fishfinger & chips, saveloy and chips, spam & chips, sometimes we had chip buttys & frozen croquettes.

Then things moved on to microwave chips.

Me too History

I’ve just looked at the shelled ones online and although it gives instructions for microwave defrosting I can’t see anything that says you must.

They are really convenient to add to a salad in the morning and perfect by lunch...

I thought edamame was cheese at first glance Grin

You can buy salad with edamames.

HelpmeobiMN · 21/08/2018 06:05

How are you feeling now OP? I think if you aren’t sick yet you will probably be ok! Hope you haven’t had a terrible night...

HelpmeobiMN · 21/08/2018 06:07

Btw if you buy edamame in those little tubs they aren’t raw and you can eat them from the packet. It’s only the bags of frozen ones that are uncooked (but obviously always read the packaging carefully etc)

longwayoff · 21/08/2018 06:49

Whilst on bellyache, has anyone had a bad experience with quinoa? Last time I ate it I thought I had salmonella. Yes I did soak it and cooked it properly but ugh. Never again.

OneStepSideways · 21/08/2018 08:03

How many did you eat? You might be fine if just a few, my friend was. If you develop D&V watch out for signs of jaundice. Hope you're ok!

ABitCrapper · 21/08/2018 22:00

How are you, OP?

Beamur · 21/08/2018 22:03

Omg. The curse of edamame...

YolandiFuckinVisser · 21/08/2018 22:09

longwayoff quinoa makes me sick too! No known food intolerances but it does not agree with me! I can eat a small quantity out of politeness if served but would never again choose it.

Lucisky · 21/08/2018 22:12

In the old days, when the only red kidney beans you could get were dried, you had to cook them at a rolling boil for some time to get rid of something that could make you ill. I discovered this the hard way after gently simmering them, and then spending the night on the loo with a bowl on my knees. Raw runner beans can do the same, apparently
Fortunately I don't like edamame , so I won't have a problem with them.

Syfychannel · 21/08/2018 22:14

Ha I knew these healthy things were bad for you! I've played it safe with a ready meal and a can of diet coke.

Smallhorse · 21/08/2018 22:20

I defrost Tesco edamame beans every single night for the nextday’s salad and never cook them. Should I be worried ?
I feel fine !

TheSheepofWallSt · 21/08/2018 22:23

Omg is the op okay...?
Very very quiet from them Shock

Rachie1986 · 21/08/2018 22:30

What happened OP, are you ok??

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 21/08/2018 22:42

Hoping OP is sleeping and not talking on the great white telephone!

TheDarkPassenger · 22/08/2018 00:55

@longwayoff

I get sick from quinoa too! How odd!

Sorry I don’t know how to tag people

longwayoff · 22/08/2018 07:06

Hi dark and yolandi, can't help with tagging, no idea how to do it either. But quinoa. Its obviously got something reactive in it then as I dont have any other intolerances. I felt so ill, for about 18 hours, that I've avoided it ever since. It's everywhere annoyingly. Still, a minor irritant overall. Happy eatingSmile
