Alone at lunchtime

We have recently moved business premises and I am the only one in the office so can't go out for lunch and have no one to chat to (I'm a chatty person). There is another office next door (same owner, different company which I used to work for so know all the staff & I usually go there at lunchtime) where they are all sitting chatting for lunchtime - AIBU to think one of them could have popped in to see me for a chat/coffee/make sure I'm not dead?

Why should they come to your office?..they work for a different company and are eating lunch in their own office with their own colleagues...

There are plenty of people who eat lunch alone, use the time to relax and read a book, watch some bloggers videos on YouTube, listen to music...

Or go to their office and join them for lunch..

But they are not snubbing you op, if they were they wouldn't include you when you go to their office for lunch

*vloggers videos

Without knowing how easy going your place of work is, I generally wouldn’t go to somebody else’s office, no.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/08/2018 13:11

Stick the answerphone on and go out. It's what I do when left alone in the office.

leftonmytodd · 15/08/2018 13:13

very easy going there would be absolutely no issue with anyone popping in as I say I usually go to their office and chat with them at lunchtime and I would have done today if I could have left my own office.

There's no internet set up yet so no chance of watching videos etc - I can't even browse the web, I am literally sitting here all day with very little work to do and no one to talk to but can't leave in case the phone rings.

YABU - they work for a different company so why should they visit you? You need to learn how to be on your own for a bit as you are a grown up FFS.

leftonmytodd · 15/08/2018 13:14

no answerphone Charlotte

Haha are you for real?!!

bluebell34567 · 15/08/2018 13:17

were you close with them?

UrsulaPandress · 15/08/2018 13:20

divert the office phone to your mobile.

go out.

leftonmytodd · 15/08/2018 13:21

yes bluebell I still am as I am in & out of their office during the day on a normal day and would have lunch with them too, it probably hasn't occurred to them that I'm sat here bored as usually if I'm not there at lunch it's because I'm too busy to get out but I thought that at least one of them would have popped their head round the door knowing that I'm on my own all day because I would if it was any of them

OP posts:
leftonmytodd · 15/08/2018 13:25

divert the office phone to your mobile.

boss won't allow this - in case someone drops into the office (the staffing levels & shitty work conditions are a whole other thread)

OP posts:
Botanicbaby · 15/08/2018 13:26

How do they know you’re alone all day?
How do you know they’re not all really busy?
You won’t suffer from having no internet either. Read a book! YABU!

serbska · 15/08/2018 13:28

Why should they come to your office?..they work for a different company and are eating lunch in their own office with their own colleagues...

Um, this 100%!

Call your mum or watch youtube or something. You sound super needy.

leftonmytodd · 15/08/2018 13:29

There are no books in the office, they know I'm alone because I saw them this morning when I was in their office speaking to my boss & I know they're not really busy because I know it's lunchtime & I'm usually in there with them at this time of day

OP posts:
CrispsAndDip · 15/08/2018 13:29

yes bluebell I still am as I am in & out of their office during the day on a normal day and would have lunch with them too

do you invite yourself over?

hmm

CrispsAndDip · 15/08/2018 13:29

You sound like you hate your own company

MarthasGinYard · 15/08/2018 13:31

'There are no books in the office,'

I think Botanicbaby meant you Could actually take your own Shock

leftonmytodd · 15/08/2018 13:33

I am their colleague too - it's a different company but they're interlinked and I officially work for their company

I'd rather sit in complete silence than call my mum Grin

So I'm being unreasonable - it's going to be a long day stuck here until 6 on the off chance the phone will ring it hasn't rung once by the way

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 15/08/2018 13:35

Alone...for one day? Come on OP, give over.

UrsulaPandress · 15/08/2018 13:35

Surely you are entitled to a lunch break?

lastqueenofscotland · 15/08/2018 13:36

Maybe they don’t enjoy you dropping in every lunch time...

chatwoo · 15/08/2018 13:37

Surely you can't be expected not to have a break or leave the office all day? What happens when you're on leave?
(I realise that this is not answering your question!)

apriljune12 · 15/08/2018 13:37

God you could take a book in a be paid to read all day. Heaven
