To still go blackberrying?!

I know I'm not BU Grin but does anyone else still do this? They're in season now and it's one of our favourite family pastimes that we all enjoy doing! Kids too. Went today, juicily ripe. Might make a crumble tomorrow with what we've got left and not scoffed already

We go all the time

glamorousgrandmother · 13/08/2018 22:00

Why wouldn't you? I been out picking them several times this year and have a few packs in the freezer. Went out with my grandsons this afternoon and will go again tomorrow.

The best ones are always out if reach but the birds can have them. .

Sunseed · 13/08/2018 22:02

Yes! Found a brilliant patch yesterday with large berries and easy picking, and made some jam with them. Going back tomorrow with DCs for more.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 13/08/2018 22:02

My apple tree is full of fruit. Blackberries are a necessity.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 13/08/2018 22:02

I've made 3x crumbles over the last few days, my kids and husband love it. I would too if I were allowed to eat blackberries Envy

rainbowsandsmiles · 13/08/2018 22:02

Just wondered if anyone else still does it. We never see anyone else doing it, and there's a fantastic place to blackberry near us Smile

Yea course it's fine. Nothing wrong with free food!

FATEdestiny · 13/08/2018 22:03

They're coming to the end of season now. We've been picking for over a month.

We pick in the hedgerows every year. We always gave. Loaddddssss of people do near us. Much conversations on "where the blackberries are good pickings" whilst dog walking.

twosunbathingdogs · 13/08/2018 22:04

The blackberries this year are very small and pathetic. The dry weather hasn’t agreed with them

Oysterbabe · 13/08/2018 22:04

We go all the time. Although we have a fucktonne growing in the garden so sometimes we don't go far. My husband is sick of them but it seems criminal to let them rot on the bush.

TrainsandDiggers · 13/08/2018 22:04

Love this! Know what I’ll be doing tomo now! Hadn’t realised they were ripe yet.

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/08/2018 22:04

They're not properly ripe near me yet. I'll head out in a couple of weeks and get a load. I don't tend to get many home because I eat them all as I'm picking. Blush

GemmaB78 · 13/08/2018 22:05

They are prolific near us. The cycle path I use to get to the city centre is awash, and I have seen many people taking advantage of them. That reminds me; I must stop and get some more tomorrow.

ThriceThriceThice · 13/08/2018 22:05

Blackberries here have been fabulous. Really sweet and juicy. However, they are nearly all over now. Love going blackberrying - just love blackberry and apple crumble.

BarbarianMum · 13/08/2018 22:06

Not in Derbyshire and S Yorkshire twosun - juicy and delicious. Best I've seen in years.

Goldenbug · 13/08/2018 22:06

Blackberries, sloes, wild plums...Go for it. I do!

Ohwtfhappened · 13/08/2018 22:07

Is it just me or are blackberries fruiting earlier? I remember them as being an early autumn/September fruit, in recent years the semi to be more of an August thing?

CherryPavlova · 13/08/2018 22:07

I tried a few whilst walking the dog today. Unfortunately they needed another few hours sunshine as still quite sharp.

ElenaGreco123 · 13/08/2018 22:08

I went on Sunday. The young ones thought I was weird, but the older passers-by had kind words. Our blackberry crumble is to die for. Cake

parrotonmyshoulder · 13/08/2018 22:08

Makes August and September dog walks with DC a joy. We’ve had several pies already, but mostly just juice stained children.

littlepeas · 13/08/2018 22:09

There are loads near us - we eat them off the brambles while walking the dog!

SoftSheen · 13/08/2018 22:09

We picked a bowlful of blackberries yesterday and made plum and blackberry crumble today. It was lovely. Of course YANBU!

PeridotCricket · 13/08/2018 22:09

Saw people yesterday picking ...but not loads of people. It’s not a huge thing here. I’ll be out next weekend picking loads though.

DogInATent · 13/08/2018 22:10

Picked almost 14lb of blackberries at the weekend, now need to find some ripe elderberries.

Joe66 · 13/08/2018 22:11

Of course, blackberry jam, and jam with Apple, crumble, and freeze the good ones to go on yoghurt in the morning. It's free food. We have loads and loads.
