I am a teacher so my working day doesn't involve periods of silence unless a class are doing a test Grin

At home, I have DH and 4 year old DS who is amazing but talks constantly!

I was awake early and I am currently sat with a cup of tea while they are still sleeping. The house is silent! I have no desire for breakfast t.v. or radio.

AIBU to just enjoy the silence while hoping they sleep for at least another hour Grin DH and DS can't get up without turning on the t.v or radio!

I might start getting up early for the rest of the hols to enjoy my silence!

I have a 3yo who starts talking before his eyes are even open! I often get up early and snuggle on the settee in the dark with a brew just to enjoy the quiet. Recently I've been sitting outside to enjoy the cool morning air and listen to the birds. It's bliss!

Mokepon · 13/08/2018 07:13

Absolutely.
Ive been awake since 445am. I do like it when there is a bit of quiet.
I often have the radio off in the car to get 30 minutes of peace on the commute.

TroysMammy · 13/08/2018 07:17

I love silence. My partner has always got the tv on. He's gone away to work for 10 days and I most probably won't turn it on. It's just me in the house and the silence is deafening. I love it.

If getting up early is the only way to go bar cutting off the tv plug, go for it and enjoy.

GuntyMcGee · 13/08/2018 07:22

YANBU! I adore silence, crave it at times. DH is a TV or music on at all times kind of person. I'm quite happy to not have any outside noise on all day and as I talk all sodding day long at work, when I get home I just want peace, quiet and to not have to make conversation or listen to anyone else for a while. Not too much to ask I don't think.

GlamourBear · 13/08/2018 07:22

I get up earlier than I need to every day to enjoy a cup of tea or two in peace. My husband goes to work early so I get up just after he's gone and usually have at least an hour or two before the tiny whirlwind wakes up Smile

stuckficks · 13/08/2018 07:25

It's my favourite thing to do! Get up with a cuppa and just sit for 10 mins before getting the brood up and being run ragged all day. Enjoy, YANBU.

Vitalogy · 13/08/2018 07:34

I love silence too. We need it to stay healthy, I used to use noise as a sort of comfort blanket but it's just a mask and distraction from the self, which is unhealthy.

twosunbathingdogs · 13/08/2018 07:40

I love silence too. When DC were young, my drive to work was my silent time. I agree with vitology, we need it to stay healthy.

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/08/2018 07:52

I'm glad there are other silence lovers around!

I also like driving to work in silence Grin

I love silence! If DH is out for the evening I quite often spend the evening in silence once DD is in bed! No tv, no radio, just silence. Bliss!

IpanemaChica · 13/08/2018 08:22

Oh yes. I took the dog yesterday morning in light drizzle just to get some silence, bliss!

Oblomov18 · 13/08/2018 08:35

I love silence.
I work part time, so on my days off, if I'm not rarely meeting a friend for coffee, I regularly sit in silence. Put a load of washing on and clean a bit. Then sit in silence again. I need it.

Kingkiller · 13/08/2018 08:37

YANBU. I'm a teacher too! I love music, but I don't often put it in when I'm on my own, because I enjoy the silence. When I was younger I hated being on my own even for half an hour. I think years of teaching changed that!

happystory · 13/08/2018 08:40

Totally understand. I work with preschoolers! My favourite part of the school holidays is a quiet cup of tea and a book. DH has music on all the time.

Vitalogy · 13/08/2018 08:47

Have you noticed the amount of people that walk around outside with those noise cancelling headphones on plus staring at their phones in some cases. Now with this new virtual reality headgear coming in. The constant need for audio/visual stimulation. I don't think it bodes well for the future.

MissusGeneHunt · 13/08/2018 08:53

YANBU at all.... I get up earlier than necessary just to grab some quiet time. It's bliss. Silence is most definitely golden!!

timeisnotaline · 13/08/2018 09:54

I would be divorced if dh had the tv on all the time. I go a bit crazy when there are multiple noise sources and he hasn’t noticed he’s turned the radio on while I’m watching tv.
I kind of ignore the 3yo while I have my cuppa in the morning (can’t get up early as have often just been to bed with the baby)

Storm4star · 13/08/2018 10:32

The older I get the more silence I seem to need! My ex was a tv on all the time person and sometimes at the weekends i’d Be begging him to turn it off for an hour or two as I couldn’t stand it any more! I rarely listen to the radio. The tv is only on when i’m Watching something specific and then goes off again. Now i’m Working from home I probably spend 90% of my time in silence! I love it!

Aprilsinparis · 13/08/2018 11:27

I love to get up early. No matter what the season, there is always something extra special about the world, before the rest of the household wakes up, and intrudes into that little bit of calm and serenity.

CrazyDaisy2018 · 13/08/2018 13:15

YADNBU - I love it too!

My DP always has the tv on so I love it when he goes out at the weekend and I can sit in silence with a magazine or book.

He is also the type that can't sit in silence even while the tv is on. He has to talk about something, anything, even if I've already heard the story eleventy-thousand times already.

Used to drive me nuts when we first moved in together but we've both got used to each other now. He doesn't talk quite so much nonsense and when he does it doesn't bother me so much!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/08/2018 13:17

I'm lucky and that apart from short periods of intense activity I spend most of my life in utter silence. I love it.

HSMMaCM · 13/08/2018 13:46

I get up early every morning for a bit of peace and quiet.

VickieCherry · 13/08/2018 13:48

I love silence. On days I work at home I rarely have music or TV on at all, it's bliss.

Mumof1DS · 13/08/2018 13:51

YANBU
DH is asleep upstairs (night shifts), DS is asleep on my front. I'm lazed out on the sofa chilling, in silence.
The only thing that would make this better would be a large cuppa.

WhatAmISupposedToBeDoing · 13/08/2018 14:06

Some mornings I get up at 5am so that I can have a 6.30am swim in silence before work. Silence, in the right doses, can be pure bliss.
