What is this bump on my hand?

My hands were crazy itchy, I scratched it and this came up. It was like a blister and popped and now I’m left with a lump.

I have a phobia of warts and I’m terrified that’s what this is.

Looks like a nettle sting.

WhatIsIt1111 · 12/08/2018 18:35

I haven’t been stung by anything. I’m panicking, I am an anxious person and anything that looks like warts sends me into a frenzy.

That’s definitely not a wart. It’s a sting or a bite.

80sMum · 12/08/2018 18:38

Insect bite.

testingmitb · 12/08/2018 18:39

It might be a mosquito/midge bite. I had some from a camping trip a few months ago that all came up in liquid filled bumps that I had to burst before they would start to heal. Deeply unpleasant.

WhatIsIt1111 · 12/08/2018 18:39

Are you sure? So definitely not contagious?

I have visions of getting covered all over my face in warts, contagious skin lesions and other things. I know it’s a phobia and irrational but seeing bumps on my hands triggers it.

Looks a bit like pompholyx - a kind of dermatitis. I get it in summer, I think it relates to my hay fever rather than a reaction to something specific (I’ve got on and off for years). Itchy, bit bumpy, bit like peeling skin? Nothing to fret over! Check the NHS page for possible treatments.

longwayoff · 12/08/2018 18:42

Rub some baking soda on it

Googled it and it looks a bit like pomphlox, it’s weird that I have one and no more?

OP posts:
PenCreed · 12/08/2018 18:53

It's not that weird, I get a tiny spot on one finger and that's all! Google pictures are always the horrifying worst case. It could just be a bite that you've scratched though - hard to tell from the photo (on my phone). Maybe put some bite cream on it and see how it looks later.

WhatIsIt1111 · 12/08/2018 18:54

I’ll try that. I’ve been trying to avoid touching it ever since in case it was contagious!

OP posts:
Jupiter9 · 12/08/2018 19:06

I would go A&E . Good luck.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 12/08/2018 19:08

Don’t go to A&E

KinkyAfro · 12/08/2018 19:11

I would go A&E snort

SendYouUpInFlames · 12/08/2018 19:11

Oh god don't go to bloody A&E. Looks like a water blister. Have you been using a spade, or could something of rubbed on your skin?

Lilsquish · 12/08/2018 19:13

Iv had this exact thing a few times.
Def a bite of some kind.

Will be away after a couple of days.

Dont worry x

WhatIsIt1111 · 12/08/2018 19:17

Lol, I get it’s minor but I have anxiety. Thanks for the serious answers!

I’ve been outside but not touched any spades!

It just seems to be getting more and more swollen. Confused

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 12/08/2018 19:38

Do you have antihistamine and bite/ sting cream?

Hidillyho · 12/08/2018 19:39

I would go A&E . Good luck

A&E wait queue:
Person 1 - heart attach
Person 2 - stroke
Person 3 - itchy finger

Any guesses which person shouldn’t have gone to A&E..!

WhatIsIt1111 · 12/08/2018 19:40

I’ve put a generic bite cream on it so we will see if that calms it down

OP posts:
mavydoes · 12/08/2018 19:44

Looks like a friction spot if you have been doing handy work today but I get something similar on my scalp and it's the cells under the lump gets swollen and then blisters and pops.

Antihistamine cream and ice will help - remove any jewellery from that finger incase it swells but DO NOT GO to A&E unless your breathing becomes laboured or a severe reaction happens.

WhatIsIt1111 · 12/08/2018 19:50

I won’t be going to a and e! I know it’s just my overactive imagination imagining it’s something unpleasant, thanks for the advice.
