Cleaner with or without uniform?

I'm in the process of starting a cleaning business, and I just wanted to ask those with cleaners, do your cleaners wear uniform?

No. She is self employed if that makes a difference.

Yes but I use an agency.

No and it would make me feel incredibly uncomfortable if she did! I’m not at home when she cleans and I don’t care what she wears as long as she’s comfortable and does a good job.

Having spotted my neighbours' cleaners, 1 has a branded car but no uniform, another has a normal car and company polo while the third has branded car and company polo.

I'm a self employed cleaner and find my own clients. I wear a tabard with my cleaning company name on it.
My theme is 'purple', so I have a sort of uniform, black trousers and purple top and then the tabard and in summer I wear black shorts.
Wearing a tabard stops my clothes being damaged by bleach and other 'nasties'.

I don’t care tbf. A good cleaner is worth their weight in gold, if they make my house look good I couldn’t give a shag what they’re wearing.

If anything, I have a minor bias against uniform, but that’s possibly due to being burned by agency cleaners in the past.

No, she's self-employed. She usually wears jeans and a T-shirt. Cleaners can damage their own clothing though with bleaches or just the wear they get and constant washing, so if you provided on a regular basis some fresh plain T-shirts and robust stretchy trousers it might be appreciated, you'd have to ask your staff to find out.

I'm in London, and I've thought of charging £12.50 an hour.

No, and I wouldn't expect it at all.

£12.50 per hour in central London is very good value I’d say. I’m in zone 4 and pay that.

Majorly underselling yourself there OP. I own a cleaning business and charge £13 and I’m in the North East! I’d of thought in central London it would be much more in honesty.

Our cleaning lady is self employed and she wears a uniform. A nursing type tunic and leggings.

Personally, I don’t like it because I’m embarrassed I need a cleaner at my age and don’t want the neighbours seeing her uniform and knowing and thinking I’m lazy 😂🙈. But I totally understand that she likes to keep her normal clothes nice and not ruin them due to bleach etc.

@peachnuts really? The few cleaning businesses i know of in my area charge £10-13 an hour.

Ours just wears a tabbard over normal clothes - I think a uniform world make me feel awkward, she's a cleaner not a housemaid!

SE London/Kent border here. Most in my area pay around £13/hour, there is quite a lot of companies going so I assume that keeps the prices down a bit.

My cleaner works for an agency, so we pay her directly and the agency as well, a total is £13/hour. The agency provides the insurance and cover if required. I have to supply cleaning products which I prefer.

My cleaner doesn’t wear uniform but when she comes she adds a “bib” over her top to avoid stains.

We have a cleaning company opposite, they drive company vehicles, wear uniform and bring equipment and products. Even they are not that more expensive.

No and honestly it would put me off if they wore a uniform. Feels a bit too much like ‘staff’ and I wouldn’t feel comfortable with that as I like to have a relaxed relationship with anyone who works for us.

We paid £10 for someone who was self employed or £14 through an agency. We’re in the SW.

'No' for the cleaner I have at home (agency).

Another 'no' for the cleaners who do my (very corporate - everyone else strictly in suits) workplace.

TBH, the only places I've ever seen uniformed cleaners were hospitals and hotels.

No uniform but usually wears some sort of tabard or overall of their own.
