to be excited for autumn?

I love summer, and I can't believe I'm almost wishing it away....but I'm finding myself getting excited about autumn!

I love mild autumn weather, autumn fashions, halloween, bonfire night....and then the run up to Christmas.

Anyone else?

I hear you, OP. I'm on board. Lovely crisp mornings and dark nights and boots and sweaters...

NicoAndTheNiners · 05/08/2018 18:17

Same here.

I’m torn as I do love the sunshine.

But agree I like autumn fashion, run up to xmas. Start a new job in Oct which I’m beyond excited about as well. Feel my whole life will change then!

cardibach · 05/08/2018 18:19

I might be able to accept the onset of autumn if all this crap about crisp mornings and cold sunny days was true. Autumn in this country is overwhelmingly damp and gloomy, giving way to wet and cold winters.
I’m loving having an actual summer for once.

13Crows · 05/08/2018 18:20

My favourite time of the year. Can't wait to get the puppy out in the piles of falling leaves.

Sweetcarrielynne · 05/08/2018 18:20

I love summer but I feel like I live in a perpetual state of excitement about autumn. I love the food - hearty soups, fruit pies, preserves, mushrooms, potatoes. And I love the trees changing colour and the crisp morning air and bonfires and boots and jumpers. I love leaf peeping and brisk walks and harvest and migrating geese. I love Halloween and knowing Christmas is just round the corner. The whole thing delights me!

Mrsmadevans · 05/08/2018 18:22

I love all the seasons and take it as it comes only thiNg l hate is drizzling rain and grey skies, if it's gonna rain then rain cats and dogs and a howling gale YES!

ToadOfSadness · 05/08/2018 18:25

I am not a fan of winter, but I absolutely loathe the hot humid summers so am in agreement here. Although was rather disgruntled to see the gloomy autumn clothing had appeared in Tesco today.

Spring is my favourite, Autumn my second.

9amTrain · 05/08/2018 18:26

Yanbu. Summer is shit for the most part.

monkeytoad35 · 05/08/2018 18:26

I was thinking exactly the same thing tonight.....bonfire night, Halloween, leaves changing colour and falling to the ground, run up to Christmas, cooler nights, stews and roast dinners....Grin

HunterofStars · 05/08/2018 18:27

Yes, my favourite time of the year. I love wearing jumpers, cardigans, boots and tights. I love the colours changing on the trees, halloween, bonfire night and decent TV. I can't wait to use my slow cooker and drink hot chocolate.

MorrisZapp · 05/08/2018 18:27

I do love summer but as I walked home today there was a slightly chilly breeze which immediately made me hanker for jumpers, nights in and the telly.

What's even on telly these days?

TruJay · 05/08/2018 18:29

I love autumn, I love winter too - I’m not really a sun person but I must say I have enjoyed this nice weather and being able to have some great days out with the kids. I’m enjoying it while it lasts but yanbu, autumn is lovely. My friend always says to me that autumn is my best season as I apparently look great and have the best outfits, I’m not sure if that means I look a mess the rest of the year but I like the compliment Grin

blueskiesandforests · 05/08/2018 18:31

Unless Autumn is your DD's name, you're unreasonable to ask "aibu to be excited for autumn". You're excited about autumn.

I'll get my coat.

flapjackfairy · 05/08/2018 18:36

I love that part of the year . Sept to Christmas is just the best . Love it all except spider season.

ALongHardWinter · 05/08/2018 18:36

Yep,count me in. I've had enough of this fucking bastard hot weather. Autumn is definitely my favourite time of year. Not too hot but not too cold either, and leading up to Christmas.

LeonoraFlorence · 05/08/2018 18:39

Love Autumn. This year in particular I’ve been desperate for it to arrive. Last year my gran died at the end of summer and I think that could be why I’ve been so restless this year as well.

flopsyrabbit1 · 05/08/2018 18:42

well it must be on its way as ive just booked for my winter fuel (logs) to be delivered next week

WhiteCoyote · 05/08/2018 19:00

I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to autumn and I stare at it longingly whenever I get a spare moment.

I also can’t wait to wear my favourite jumpers again. Poor things have been stuck under the bed for months 😭

Baubletrouble43 · 05/08/2018 19:02

Yanbu op. I have laundered and hung up my favourite cosy jumper dress in anticipation, hope I don't have to wait too long. It looks fab with boots. I'm better in autumn fashion! ( off to browse new winter boots)

Westwing1 · 05/08/2018 19:09

Sweetcarrielynne what is leaf peeping please? Autumns my favourite season too, I like wearing boots. I sound like a simpleton, I think it's all the Dick Turpin I watched in the 70's.

9amTrain · 05/08/2018 19:13

@blueskiesandforests what's wrong with saying that you're excited for something (to come)?

ilovesooty · 05/08/2018 19:15

I loathe autumn and the run up to Christmas. Not feeling the excitement at all.

blueskiesandforests · 05/08/2018 19:26

In British English excited for (or worried for, or happy for) means on behalf of. I'm happy for my DD because she's going in holiday with friends next week, for example.

Excited about is used when referring to a comming event. You're not excited on the events behalf, you're excited about it.

People say language evolves and it does, but living "excited about" and using "for" in both cases reduces the nuances of the language and makes it coarser, so it's not evolution so much as devolution (in the sense of retrograde evolution or degeneration).

MsJinglyJones · 05/08/2018 19:27

Yes! I'm already getting that exciting new boots and cosy PJs feeling. I love autumn anyway, but I think having a hot summer makes it even better as it will be a proper change of season (unlike some where summer is just kind of damp and chilly as well...)

blueskiesandforests · 05/08/2018 19:28

Sorry, that was to 9amTrain ^^
