Tesco's women's t shirt.

So doing a shop this morning I was walking past their women's clothing aisle and notice two t shirts prominantly displayed.

Nice material both white on one it said in bold red writing "fearless and feminine" the other it said "grateful".

Now I am no feminist and it takes a lot to offend me but those t shirts were a bit degrading to me, especially the grateful one as if to say the wearer would be grateful for anything.

Or am I over reacting?

I don't get it. Confused

DickensianHysteric · 04/08/2018 12:12

Grateful? Confused That's a weird thing to put on a t shirt but hardly offensive.
Are you sure it wasn't graceful in a really swirly font?!

Beaverhausen · 04/08/2018 12:14

Nope it was grateful I double checked.

YABU

starcrossedseahorse · 04/08/2018 12:19

Grateful? FFS. Sounds horrible to me.

starcrossedseahorse · 04/08/2018 12:19

Who the hell would wear that?

CholloDeNombre · 04/08/2018 12:20

They also have "the future is female" on a t-shirt. Looks like the designers were trying to get a feminist vibe with this range, but slightly missed the mark. Not sure what grateful is supposed to imply. Fearless and feminine is cheesy at best.

Bluelady · 04/08/2018 12:20

Maybe someone who counts their blessings?

MrsGrindah · 04/08/2018 12:21

It’s bizarre but hardly offensive.

iVampire · 04/08/2018 12:21

Get a fabric felt-tip and add ‘dead’?

GoldenWonderwall · 04/08/2018 12:22

Perhaps it would work better in the cheese aisle?

#blessed was probably already out at Asda

Beaverhausen · 04/08/2018 12:23

Lo @iVampire.

Maybe they are just trying too hard.

What's wrong with being grateful? I think it's a lovely, healthy attitude to have. I'm sure everyone could compile a list of 5 things that they are grateful for. For example - a roof over your head, food in the cupboard, clean water to drink, your health, the health of your loved ones, the fact that you have loved ones, a nice hot bubble bath, a nice cold glass of wine, a brisk walk in the fresh air, cup of tea/coffee maybe with a pastry or slice of cake, getting an hour of peace to chill out with a good book or a favourite TV show ...

Everyone's list would be different of course, these are just examples of some things that some people would be grateful for

Bluntness100 · 04/08/2018 12:24

I'm not getting the issue with fearless and feminine. Why is that a bad message?

Grateful is weird though. Are you sure there wasn't something else on it, ie on the back or something?

BananaToffo · 04/08/2018 12:26

Now, I'm no feminist

Really? You don't believe in equality? How odd.

But, it's irrelevant anyway. Objecting to a t shirt aimed at women that simply says, "Grateful" is not being a feminist...it's being ridiculous.

lackingimagination · 04/08/2018 12:27

It might be weird but how on earth can anyone possibly view ‘grateful’ on a t-shirt as degrading?????

NotACleverName · 04/08/2018 12:28

You're overreacting.

I think you're over reacting as I can't see anything wrong with either of them.

drinkswineoutofamug · 04/08/2018 12:33

This one, saw it last week

Tesco's women's t shirt.
acatcalledjohn · 04/08/2018 12:37

I saw that too @drinkswineoutofamug, and thought:

"No, the future should be fucking equal."

WonderfulWonders · 04/08/2018 12:38

now I'm no feminist

THIS is the bit that jumps out of your thread. How can you not be a feminist?! I'm intrigued by what people who say that think it means?!

Back to the less interesting point "grateful" is, I think, the softer version of "blessed"

"Fearless and feminine" is just weird Confused

Aridane · 04/08/2018 12:41

Not seeing the problem

Racecardriver · 04/08/2018 12:41

Must be meant among the lines of #blessed. St like the 'the future is female' shirts it reads wrong without a context.

viques · 04/08/2018 12:45

*"The softer version of 'blessed'"

One step away from"blessed fruit"? I bet gilead had a good line in slogan t shirts planned before they hit on the classify women's clothing by their purpose in life idea. Smile
